This achievement is thankfully Cumulative across all runs after buying the DLC. I ended up unlocking this achievement about halfway running through the new characters.

Anybody know if your speed affects step rate?

The map type doesn't matter as it is just cosmetic

I’ve beat the game with all characters and don’t have this yet. Is there any place to track it in game? Does it have to be all in one map type ie The Abyss map only?

This is cumulative across all runs, and should come naturally by the time you finish this DLC. The Hiker character especially will be forcing you to walk tons of steps during your run, so expect this achievement to come by the halfway point of finishing all of the characters in this DLC.
