I will tell you what worked best for me, getting it first try.

I turned down Enemy Health in the Accessibility settings first.

For this one, I primarily focused on getting Primitive Weapons only in the 6 slots and upgrading them in the Blue Tier first. I got 3 sticks, 2 Slingshots and one Rock.

After I got all my weapons in the Blue Tier, I focused on good Items and Stats. For my Stats, I went mainly for Attack Speed, %Damage, Max HP, HP Regen and Luck.

Luck gave me alot of good items.
It is good to focus on items that boost your Stats since when your weapons are maxed out in the blue, you only have this to focus on.
That's when Luck comes in handy, giving you good items. You may not have them in your run but good examples for items to look for are Potato, Baby Geckos, Lemonades, Boxing Gloves, Improved Tools, Piggy Banks, Wandering Bots, Baby Elephants, Hunting Trophies, Cyberballs, Alien Tongues and Coupons. There are plenty more that are good as well, but these are main ones I looked out for.
