All you need to do is beat the game (Lvl 100) with 2 players. You don't have to play the entire game with 2 players but you do need to have 2 players in the game before you beat lvl 100. All i did was press A button to bring in a second player but beat the final boss myself.

You don´t even need two players before level 100, you can just defeat the final level and before blowing the final bubble, press A on the second controller ;)

Just a point that may or may not be obvious for getting out of the box at the start of level 72.
When you do successfully make a bubble DO NOT move left or right, just jump on your bubble, then hold A to bounce on it and blow more bubbles and you should be out the box in no time.
Actually blowing seems impossible at first but its not too bad once you figure it out.
You need to jump at the wall then change direction (bearly move the stick past the centre) and blow a bubble.
It's all about an incredibly slight movement.
And the get the happy ending you just need a 2nd player on lvl 100 which you'll probably need anyway to clear the boss

both players have to be alive at the end of level 100 in order to get the happy ending

You nailed it with the "incredible slight movement"! I've been able to do it repeatedly with that hint whereas I got stuck even after watching vids. Thanks!

Beat the game by getting to lvl 100 with a 2 people. The 2nd person can join on lvl 100 and it will still count. One level that seems to get every body is lvl 72, here is a video.
