How to unlock the Candid Cryptid achievement in Bugsnax - Definitive Guide

Apologies if you're here from the notifications this wasn't how I wanted to break the internet.
I just saved an edit and its gone a bit mad...

Credit to Mr Funman for this, I'm just putting it in a more visible place

"Super easy way to get this achievement is to use the bed in Crombo's Camp in Scorched Gorge to rest until 5am. Spin around and check the windmills to see if the Snaxsquatch has spawned - it'll be super obvious when he has, but if not, rest again. I got him to appear first try here."

Been confirmed by several people

Additionally, as MehGyver says, you can get this during the final mission.
I won't spoil it, but so long as you don't rush forward, you will have several opportunities to get the scan

5am didn't work for me, tried it multiple times. I had to sleep until midnight, then the Snaxsquatch appeared.
So my advice would be, sleep at the camp at Scorched Gorge multiple different times of the day. In the end the Snaxsquatch will appear.

You can naturally come across the Snaxsquatch during the final quest sequence. If you go slow enough, you have plenty of time to snag a snapshot. No need to nap and pray.

I randomly saw Snaxsquatch while timing the game to find Baja Tachroach in the Simmering Springs. He freaked me out, and so I quickly snagged a photo/scan. I didn't even know this was an achievement yet.

He was up on the ledge amongst the trees to the left once warping into the area. There's a round-about in that corner with a Kweeble circling the bushes (not near the beach). Opposite the side where the Buggy Ball is first found.

Not really sure this helps anyone. I'm just posting because I never saw Snaxsquatch the whole game and I think I'm close to finishing. Just trying to help.

You may see a strange amalgam of Bugsnax that quickly dismantles itself when you notice it. This is the fabled Snaxsquatch in question, and while I've only see it twice in the wild, it does exist! Easiest way that has been commented on has been finding it when you load into Garden Grove. Reach the bridge, then turn quickly to the right. Above the trees where the Cobhopper frequents, you might see a strange shape disassemble; bring out your Scanner and take a shot, if it manages to highlight ???.

Otherwise, you might see it near the end, and have a better chance of getting a shot of it before the story wraps up. Read the spoiler if you do wish to know when you would see it.

Easy to get near the end of the game where it is stood in the room with the main characters.

The Snaxsquatch is a mysterious creature that is part of the main story. I only ever saw it in my game naturally once, and I missed scanning it.

There are ways to make it appear but they are unnecessary. The Snaxsquatch shows up very prominently in the final mission of the main quest. Very easy to scan there.

You’ll have 3 opportunities to get this trophy, the 3rd being the recommended as it’s by far the easiest. The Snaxsquatch is an eerie, yet simply misunderstood Bugsnak that’s made up of… Bugsnax. It stands just about as tall as a Grumpus and the first two times you encounter it, it’ll either split into a parade of Bugsnax or simply disappear from sight. The third encounter, however, it can’t run away, allowing you to easily scan it. The locations in which you’ll meet it are as follows:
  • First Encounter: Around 3:30am in Garden Grove, hovering above the tree line after completing Beffica’s quest line. You may need to reload back into this area if it doesn’t appear right away. When you see it, it’ll disappear within about 2-3 seconds. 
  • Second Encounter: When the Grumpuses have gathered around the Campfire to share ghost stories, the campfire will go out. Filbo will ask you to go grab some wood by the mill. Do so and when you turn around, between the barn and Cromdo’s house will be a shadowy Snaxsquatch that will “run” towards you. You have about 1-2 seconds to scan it before it disappears.
  • Third Encounter: At the very end of the game, when you’re in the tunnels with Filbo, when you reach the large room with Lizbert, the Snaxsquatch will be in plain view on the right side. Don’t walk up to Lizbert and instead, scan the Snaxsquatch first. They’re not going anywhere so you have plenty of time to do this. 
Once you have scanned the Snaxsquatch at any one of these encounters, the trophy will unlock.

Monstrokhrum was encountered more than once after sleeping in the Scorched Gorge location near the windmills.

Yes, it is found in many locations and disappears quickly.
I had one in a canyon and in the foothills with a cabin.
Most likely, if you make it a rule to scan everything, then someday it will break out on its own.

If suddenly it was not possible to scan it, then after the end of the campaign you can click continue again and you will start from the beginning of the last act.
