How to unlock the Blood Symphony achievement in Bulletstorm - Definitive Guide

**If there are any parts you have issue with, comment and I will add them to the solution.**

-If you negative vote, PLEASE comment why. I will do my best to fix the solution. So stop being lame and downvoting for no reason cause you are a sad person. Thanks. Hope it helps.-

This isn't actually as difficult as you'd think. I personally found this to be a cake walk when compared to the hardest difficulty in other games, such as CoD or Halo Reach's "Monument..." achievement.

If you work at getting skill shots, and make sure to catch all the reflex scenes as best as you can, you'll have more than enough ammo and upgrades to go through. By the end of the game, I had maxed out every gun and full ammo for everything as well.

Benni Krok has suggested that if you have issues with the train section in Chapter 1 Act 2, to leash the vulture pilots instead of trying to shoot them down. I think this is a good suggestion any time you're up against Vultures, as it conserves ammo, and is much quicker. Unless you have a sniper rifle, which is always just loads of fun to use on anything.

Suggestion on how to defeat Weed Killer easily: Make sure your flail gun & PMC are fully upgraded for capacity. Don't bother buying ammo for either this or your PMC. Ammo for both these weapons will drop by killing the flytraps just before this battle. Third weapon doesn't matter, but I brought the flare just in case. When there is a health bar, use two flails then switch to your PMC to finish off the last little bit. Once it goes upside down, if you are quick enough to take it out, it will not have a chance to drop those annoying puff balls. Use one flail per "glowy part" as Gray says. If you aim it right, you can take out two with one flail. I only did this once, but you don't have to as you should have plenty of ammo if you don't miss at all.

One important thing to note is that after you do "Weed Killer" - DO NOT buy ammo for your guns. I made that mistake. Shortly after that battle, there is an ammo container which will give you full ammo & charge for all the weapons you're carrying. You may want to bring along a weapon you enjoy using as your third for the ammo, since you shouldn't need to use any ammo from it for that battle. There's a second weapon cache underneath the city when you're pinned down by snipers. Make sure to switch through all your weapons and fill them all up here, as it will be very helpful on your cash flow. To aid in this, there's a drop shop right next to the ammo cache.

Several people have also posted issues with the elevator section. The best way I've found to defeat this is using the flail gun. Make sure you have capacity fully upgraded and have filled the gun. Don't bother with the turret, as it takes too long to aim. Look upwards, and fire between the two gears that you are protecting, on the corner of the shaft. Then look down, and detonate the flail as the highest of the crawlers is just about to reach the flail mine. Make sure you detonate it before he gets there, as if you wait until he's right next to it, you will miss him.

A short note on the helicopter section. Don't bother going for the red barrels achievement. That is much better done on Very Easy after you've completed the campaign. Make sure you get past the first part with at least 30% health. The first part is the hardest. After you get past here, you should not take more than 10% damage (if that. Once I managed to pass the initial area, I didn't take any damage). Don't forget to only zoom in when you're shooting at something. Trying to move your camera while zoomed in slows it down a ton.

Macross Soldier says: "Another tip for the helicopter section is that flares can be shot out of the air, so if you're having trouble killing them you can at least keep them from doing too much damage."

The most important thing is kill the boss right away, then kill the two vultures as soon as they show up (before Trishka calls them out, if possible) as they will kill you faster than anything. After that is the flair gunners. Use the red barrels and big gas containers to your advantage. Shoot them out to kill the boss and the flair gunners that run out from the building.

If you manage to kill everything and still have some time where you're hovering at the start, don't just sit there - look up and aim at the second platform and start shooting the barrels and people up there.

The only two spots I had any real problems were with the helicopter section & the "get to the jumpship" section. Hope this helps, good luck!

*Note: This achievement does stack with the other difficulty modes.

*Note 2: You can select each chapter individually on chapter select after completing the game on an easier difficulty, and still get this achievement. You will not, however, have bonus SP if you have not finished the chapter on a difficulty harder than you have previously finished that chapter. (Thanks AntonySJ)

Do you have to start a completely new game? or can you play each individual chapter on Very Hard, thus keeping the SP for weapons etc?

By Antonysj on 05 Mar 2011 16:38
I am not entirely sure, as I did my first playthrough on VH. I imagine, however, that you should be able to do each chapter on VH individually. The way to check is to start the prologue on VH and after you finish, check and see if it has it listed as completed as VH on the chapter selection menu. If you figure this out, let me know please?

Thanks, I selected prologue as you said and it does say it's completed on VH. I assume this means it can be done. :)

Dang, not sure if it was me or indeed the game but all the SP were reset to 0 when I got to Act 1.

Most likely that's to keep you from getting the extra SP from having the level done.

Just a comment about the train section in Act 1 chapter 2. I had a few hard times with it, but eventually I just ended up leashing the vulture pilots, and that solved that problem. It's faster and easier than trying to shoot them to death.

Some notes on Chapter 7, Act 1, room with four heavies would make this solution perfect. It's the hardest section in the game IMO. +1 anyway.

Do your gun/leash upgrades carry over say if you start on very easy then play on very hard, are your guns still upgraded?
0
0
By FadedMemory on 19 Mar 2011 16:21
No. Even if you beat the game on very hard, and start over on very easy, they don't carry over. Instead, you get an amount of bonus SP at the start of each chapter. The only way that upgrades carry through is by going from one chapter to the next, without using chapter select.

Super guide, thanks a lot. Helped me on Weed Killer and on the lift segment A LOT. Weed Killer was so easy with that technique and the lift was much easier with the flail gun that with the other weapons. Thanks.

I actually lucked out with Weed Killer - those are my usual weapons of choice, and they happened to work really well. Took me 4 tries with the stupid turret to figure out the flail was way easier. I almost passed it the 2nd time with the turret (got up to the last set, but one got past...) and that pushed me on for two more tries. lol. Anyway, glad I could help.

It's right in the middle of the room in the next level as soon as you see two guys coming down the ramp towards you. It's inside a fridge, one of the guys is pulling it. Pretty hard to miss.

I don't suck dude, haha maybe if you wrote a better guide, seriously there's no cover on the train so give people tips instead of saying just use the leash

By PrimalBandicoot on 01 Jul 2011 22:25
Well isn't saying "use the leash" a tip? That's how I did it. Leash got me through on my second try. And obviously since you're the first person to comment on having a hard time on that part since the game came out in Feb. my tip is good.

I can't hold your hand through the whole game, this isn't a walkthrough it's just a guide to the hardest parts and overall strategy. There is a TIP for that part, it is not my fault that you cannot properly put it to use. My guide isn't the problem, your lack of skill is.

For the record, there is cover on the train, at the back on the right side you can cover behind a gear/engine out cropping, thats what I did and it made my playthrough much easier, and yes primal, you really do suck.

On chapter 7.1 in the room with the 4 heavies... equip the flail gun, walk right in and don't hit LT for the points. just hold LB right on the heavy in the center of the lower floor for a thumper. As soon as you can, thump him again. this takes out the ENTIRE room including him. kick away anyone that gets in your way while waiting for the heavy on floor 2 to come out of the door. as soon as he does, pop some grenades from the flail gun around his next and explode his armor. switch to the shot gun and take out every one else in the room. thump if you have to. take out the second heavy. GO UPSTAIRS ASAP.

when the other two heavies show up you should still have flail ammo which should knock out the power packs on their stomachs.

yeah primal really must have sucked at this, at the start of my play through on very hard i was thinking i'd save up points for the hard bits but i've yet to come across any and i'm at 7.1, so i'm sitting on over 100,000 atm, if your using points throughout your play through this must be a walk in the park. positive vote from me!

If you are going to write a solution, then please just write the solution and leave out the whine-bagging about negative votes. It's annoying. Nice solution, but no vote from me. Would have been an upvote if not for the wimpering. Anyone who happens to not like your solution must therefor be sad and lame? Really?

Oh, I'm crushed that you didn't vote. CRUSHED!!! Perhaps you should learn to read, since I said "downvoting for no reason" because you and I both know there are people who go around making sure every solution has at least one neg. Anyway aren't you sort of a hypocrite for complaining about my complaining? Yes, yes you are.

I like the solution. I wanted to add that I played it on normal first and scored alot of points trying to get the Golden Idol. For the Very Hard playthrough I noticed if I chapter selected I had alot of points to play with I read on here that if you chapter select and play through to the next chapter you lose it all. So I played the game in reverse, by doing this I always had alot of points to by ammo with. You select 7-2 and beat it then select 7-1 then when you get to 7-2 again quit and chapter select 6-3 and repeat.

Tried running campaign in reverse using chapter select. After weed killer and quit to main menu, my chapter select vanished. Completed Echoes are also gone. I can continue but obviously does me no good since I was playing in reverse. Going to remove all data and start from scratch. Thumbs up for advice on harder parts though.

I never found the vaguely-referenced "ammo box shortly after Weedkiller" but the rest of the tips in this have been very helpful.

As somebody who usually avoids higher difficulties and finds them to be cheap, restrictive garbage rather than fun challenges, I want to reassure anyone worried about trying this achievement that it's really not bad at all.

After a couple of tries using the turret and the PMC, and failing, I tried your Flail Gun method on the elevator section. However attempting to follow it left me less successful then the normal method. If you place the mine on the steel pipe between the two gears it won't kill the crawling things and if you put it on the shaft itself it won't work since you're moving upwards.

Anyone trying that section should just grab the turret, run right to the switch and hit it, use it as much as you can and then use your PMC for the rest.

Everything else you suggested was good though.

That only applies if you haven't finished the game. Once you finish the game, you receive a set amount of cash per level based on the hardest difficulty you've finished that level with. (if you use chapter select....if you play straight through you keep the cash like normal)

I agree with FJMatlock regarding the elevator on Act 6 Ch, 2 .The Flail Grenade on the stationary gears didn't kill the creatures and anywhere else gets carried downward. I used the minigun until the moment it was run down then switched to the Boneduster's charged shot. Fire when the creatures are almost to the gears and it burns the lot of them and gives you enough time to get another charged shot ready for the next group.

Four helpful tips for very hard I feel are missing:
a) use the leash and melee religiously. They are stupid overpowered in the singleplayer campaign and will save your ass more often than not. What beats an electric blue cord that noclips and brings nearly every enemy within melee distance?
a-1) on the same note as item A, kill as cheaply as possible when you're in ambush situations. Example: at the very beginning of act 5, chapter 2, you are ambushed by burnouts in a small courtyard with cacti. Set up camp opposite the cacti and keep pressing B button to kick them into it.
a-2) the thumper can and does save your life. Dump points into it as soon as you can and unleash the fury when faced with large groups of enemies.
c) after you unlock the penetrator drill's charge shot (act 6 chapter 3) keep the weapon out and on charge whenever you are rushed by any melee enemies. When the drill is in charge mode it will insta-kill any enemy it touches without shooting, so you can basically spin circles to instantly kill large groups of enemies. This is especially useful in that part of the Ulysses where you're not allowed to shoot.

Between these four items, the very hard difficulty wasn't =)

This really wasn't as hard as I expected. I found that the best weapon combo was to use the flail gun and shotgun or revolver. As headshots or flares could dispatch enemies, as can the pushback and the charged shot on the shotgun.

Also, starting on the last chapter and getting the echo elite dealt with made the other enemies on other chapters feel easier to deal with. Starting from the end then working backwards through the campaign also allows you to re purchase whatever upgrades you want as you are granted a huge number of points. So you can start each chapter with your chosen weapons fully upgraded and fully resupplyed.

All difficulty achievements stack, so completing the game on Very Hard will net you the achievement for Hard, Normal and Easy/Very Easy.

Very Hard difficulty isn't actually all that hard but obviously it isn't going to be a walk in the park like Very Easy! Below are a few tips to take into consideration:

  • If you can use cover like a wall or pillar, use it. There's no point standing out in the open getting hit, when you can pop out, shoot and take cover.
  • Your health regenerates at the same normal rate as the lower difficulties, so don't be too scared if you start getting hit. Just take cover and let it recover.
  • Using quick and cheap Skillshots will come very helpful. A kick then another into spikes is a quick and easy way for a kill and saves ammo. Same for letting enemies fall to their death.
  • Upgrades cost more this time around. So coming back to the point above, if you can get Skill shots that don't mean you have to fire your weapon, then do them!
  • Don't rush in. If you don't know the level layout ahead or what's coming, then don't just go in guns blazing as you'll be more likely to die and be using up much needed ammo!
  • Quick Kills! Don't waste ammo shooting at the stomach or chest of the enemies, it'll only take longer to kill them! Shoot for the head/throat etc for a quicker kill!
  • Use those multi kill Skillshots. Why take one enemy out at a time when you can use your Thumper to get multiple kills in one.
  • Use the objects around you. If you see a Venus man-eater, don't waste ammo; kick, slide or Leash the enemy into it. The same goes for Hotdog carts or even a barrel. Don't take them out one by one when a barrel can net you 5 in one explosion!

All difficulty trophies stack so completing the Campaign on Very Hard Difficulty will unlock all other difficulty related trophies. The game on Very Hard is surprisingly very easy unlike other First Person Shooters. There will be some parts that will require you to keep retrying until you successfully cleared it but you will eventually make your way through as long as you keep at it. Below are some helpful tips to help you clear Very Hard Difficulty:

  • The Leash is your best friend and weapon. Use the Leash to pull an enemy towards you then while the auto slow motion take effect. Kill the enemy that you Leashed towards you with a Headshot. This will quickly kill almost every enemy type in the game and reduces ammo consumed.
  • Take cover. There isn't really a cover system built within the game but it's effective to hide behind objects with to shield yourself from hostile fire.
  • Don't be Rambo. When your health is low and your screen begins to turn dark red. Quickly take cover and regenerate your lost health. The regeneration in this game is pretty fast and you'll be able to return fire back or access the current situation of your surroundings.
  • Perform basic Skillshots. While playing you will get used to performing certain skillshots to quickly one hit kill enemies or to thin the crowds. When you see spikes, electricity wires, a cliff, grinder, etc. Leash an enemy towards you and kick them into them to kill them instantly. This will also save you ammo and will give you more Skillshot Points to spend on upgrades and Charge Ammo.
  • Love the boot to the face. Your Kick is also your best friend. Leashing an enemy towards you and then killing him into an object that will kill him will make this mode even easier. Also while reloading your gun you leave yourself open to an attack but you can perform a Kick still while you're reloading animation is still in effect. This will push an enemy that was about to attack you backwards to be gun down by your gun. Not only that but you can also spam the kick button by kicking an enemy to death over and over again till he dies. This will also save your ammo consumptions.
  • Buy Charge ammo. The Charge ammo in the game can be a life saver many times in the game. Plus they make killing the mini bosses much easier. Also they're cheap and you can buy many of them without waste too much Skillpoints. Try not to buy the regular ammo for they are usually not needed.
  • Take your time. Take it slow and enjoy the story even though the plot isn't that good. You will still have a fun time and will get a laugh or two from the characters silly comment gestures.

You can start right away at this difficulty level (it’s not that difficult and it’s not very difficult), but here are a couple of tips
We kill 2-3 enemies.

Use a sniper rifle more often.

Use tackle( ).

Take a place when the enemy runs up to kick a cactus, electroshock, etc.

The most important thing is to remember to use the WHIP.

When you pass this level, all previous ones will be given automatically.
