To unlock this achievement, simply start a game of Freeburn, and take down anyone that you see. It is very, very unlikely that the person you take down has not unlocked Criterion Fever, as everyone usually unlocks this one within a minute or two of playing in an online game.

On classic burnout Paradise you're no longer able to unlock this specific achievement :(

Find someone who already has this achievement and ask them to meet you in a match. Once you are in the match, take 'em down. It's that easy.

This achievement is cannot be obtained legitimately due to online services that closed as of 01 August 2019 at 12:00 AM UTC.

Online services are still available in Burnout Paradise Remastered on Xbox One, however, it does not have a viral achievement.

Original solution (click the spoiler tag to view):

I have this achievement and would be glad to help out at any time. Just send a message to Lightsup55 on Xbox Live saying:

I'd like the "Criterion Fever" viral achievement in Burnout Paradise.

Solution:

Find someone who already has this achievement, start a Freeburn Online session and invite the other player. Drive to the other player's location and crash your car into them causing them to be TAKEN OUT!. The other player will need to have already caught Criterion Fever (i.e. unlocked this achievement) for you to get it as well. The achievement unlocks when the game says either NEW REVENGE RIVAL, SCORE SETTLED, RIVALRY REIGNITED, or x TAKEDOWNS AHEAD (x = number). It is also possible to get the other player's mugshot (i.e. a photo from that player's Xbox Live Vision Camera if connected), which will be saved in The Lineup.

Load up Burnout Paradise and press the Start button

Press the A button

to continue past the screen about the autosave feature.
The game will now check for updates and connect to the Burnout Paradise servers.
Press the Start button

Select your vehicle (instructions for using the default vehicle):
From the main menu, highlight "Enter Paradise City" and press the A button

to select.
From the VEHICLE SELECT menu, highlight "Paradise Cars" and press the A button

to select.
The HUNTER CAVALRY is the default vehicle. Press the A button

to continue.
You can customize the PAINT FINISH, PAINT TYPE, AND PAINT COLOR if you desire. Press the A button

to continue and enter offline Freeburn.
You should now be able to drive around Paradise City offline without interaction with other players.

Start a Freeburn Online session:
Press D-pad right

to access online shortcuts (Easy Drive Menu).
Highlight "Freeburn Online" and press D-pad right

Highlight "Create Match" and press D-pad right

To make your Freeburn Online session invite-only (recommended):
Press D-pad right

to access online shortcuts (Easy Drive Menu).
Highlight "Choose Access" and press D-pad right

Highlight "Invite Only" and press D-pad right

.

Invite your friend (must be on your Xbox 360 friend list):
Press D-pad right

to access online shortcuts (Easy Drive Menu).
Highlight "Friends" and press D-pad right

.
Highlight [gamertag] and press D-pad right

.
Highlight "Invite" and press D-pad right

.
Your friend's game invite will show up in the Xbox 360 Guide.

You can alternatively invite the other player from the Xbox Guide

(Xbox 360 console only).

Note: If you are playing Burnout Paradise on your Xbox One console, open the Xbox Guide by pressing the View button

and Menu

button at the same time. You need to do this to accept and/or send game invites (including friend requests) when playing an Xbox 360 game on Xbox One.

Join any freeburn session and start taking down other players. This should pop up really fast as almost everyone who plays online has this achievement. Just make sure your in a friendly game where people aren't to bothered about being run off the road. Some players take this game to seriously.

Avoid challenges while trying to collect this achievement as it may not unlock.
