This isn't a sure proof solution but a great tip for crash mode. Think of the entire thing as a puzzle of dominoes falling over, the key to getting gold is to block off each road way with crashed cars.

Sometimes trucks with logs or barrels may do this for you, other times you will have to use impact time to accomplish this. Impact time after a crash breaker is usually the key to defying the laws of physics and move onto another side of the street while just a hunk of scrap metal.

Also try to execute crash breakers around many cars, even if destroyed already you'll still get more credit in damage than you would have if you blew up next to open space.

Finally try to use the Mobile Diner or the pickup trucks if you have a choice, they tend to cause more damage and in the case of the mobile diner it will boost your damage due to its vechile worth.
