How to unlock the More sober than Zadok Allen achievement in Call of Cthulhu - Definitive Guide

There are four opportunities to drink in this game:

Chapter 1, whiskey on desk
Chapter 2. bought from the bartender if you're on good terms with him
Chapter 6. at the beginning when at the mansion, whiskey on the table in the library
Chapter 9, at the end of chapter when back at the mansion, whiskey on table in the library (same location as above)

Simply pass up on these four opportunities and this achievement will unlock at the very end of Chapter 9 upon:


UPDATE (March 16, 2020): Reports indicate this achievement is now unlocking at the beginning of chapter 10 during:


Not sure if this is being caused by unlock delay or if this is the new unlock point -- either way wait until at least here before worrying about an improper unlock.

NOTE: Not drinking is basically a requirement for the two "difficult" endings, aka

So its best to just not ever drink in any of your play-throughs (I don't think it really affects anything outside the endings, so you're not missing much)

I like to add that regarding drinking to be a requirement for those two endings, I did drink every time in my 1st playthrough and still get Nameless Cults at the end. So I would rule it out as a requirement for this one.

didn't unlock for me until the Leviathan conversation at the start of chapter 10 so wait until at least where you get the choice of struggle and say nothing

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Throughout the game there are chances you can find or order a drink, just be sure to always decline these options. The final drink option is in Chapter 9, so if you declined all of them to that point, the achievement will unlock at the end of the chapter.

Missable!

Drinking alcohol, or ordering a drink will void this trophy and as the game tends to autosave every now and then, you’ll need to be careful with what you inspect while playing.

The trophy will unlock after completion of Chapter 9 as after this point, there is no more alcohol to drink.

Head Hero likes to drink booze, when you see booze, don’t drink it for anything. This also applies to the moment in the bar at the beginning of the game.

If you have never drank, the trophy will drop when loading chapter 10

I had a drink at the bar 3 times when I spoke to the bartender. Nowhere else. The trophy fell out.
