How to unlock the The delusional investigator achievement in Call of Cthulhu - Definitive Guide

Regarding skill checks. The percentages I list worked for me. Higher percentages will give you a greater chance of passing skill checks the first time. A quiet two-note tone will play every time you pass a check. IMPORTANT If you fail a skill check immediately dashboard then quit the game. Reload the game and you’ll be restarted from the last checkpoint. If you’re not fast enough then the option will be gone forever and you’ll be locked out. Since inventory and items do not carry over you'll have to restart the game If you do have to reload be sure to pick up all collectibles that did not save.


Chapter 2

After talking to Fitzroy the harbormaster the alleyway past the Stranded Whale bar will open up. Walk to the end and find a large open door on the left. Inside find three hidden items

LEVER - As soon as you walk in on the left-hand side on the floor behind the movable board.
RATCHET DEVICE - On the left-hand wall in a broken crate to the left of the roof support beam.
COGWHEEL - Turn 180% and look to the left of the beam on the other side of the room. Partially hidden between metal plates

From the cogwheel turn right and go up the ladder. Interact with the winch, then mount the ratchet device > cogwheel > lever, then turn the handle SKILL CHECK HERE [STRENGTH SKILL 50%]

Drop down through the grate and turn right at the bottom to wade through the water. A cutscene plays and after you'll get the achievement.

I did this first time with 40% Strength. Also it's possible to get the achievement "No Prohibition for Darkwater" and this in the same run. (I did). Just pick the lock and give the sailors the whiskey, then do this. (Be ready to pause the game and restart checkpoint in the event of a possible failure).

This might be glitched. I got the cutscene and the achievement never popped.

When you first start the game put all your points into strength. Then later after talking to the shipmaster put the extra points into strength that you get (should be two) go over to the allyway with the cop car go into the warehouse and pick up the 3 hidden items. They are pretty easy to find and go up the ladder and open the gate. After that just go through the water passage and it should pop!

This occurs on chapter 2 and just like "The Prohibition of Darkwater".. This requires another skill check, this time.. Strength.

As you see in my 100% Video guides, i put all CP points into Spot hidden and investigation skills and managed to unlock this on my first attempt on my first 2 playthroughs.
So after you deal with the guards with the drunk sailors, head towards the bar again but turn left down the street.
On the left hand side you can enter a warehouse.. You need to find 3 hidden items (Which aren't hidden that much).. On the left behind some pallets as you enter.. staying on the left in a trolley and on the right side behind a metal thing is the other.

Go up the ladder to the turning mechanism, put all 3 items on and then press and hold cn_A to work the grate.

If you go to 15:00 in my first playthrough video, you will see what you need to do and more importantly what a failed strength test looks like.
Theres a small subtle difference between a failure and a success, so watch it, and if yours does the same as a failed attempt.. BEFORE you finish it, IMMEDIATELY quit out, and start again, if you finish the test, the game saves and have to restart!

This achievement will come automatically if you pass the Strength skill check in the garage during Chapter 2. Collect the three pieces of the winch, climb the ladder and assemble it in this order: lever, wheel, ratchet, and then try to use it. If you pass the skill check, you can travel down the tunnel and get the achievement. If you fail the skill check, you'll need to start a new game to get this. Missable!

You can get this trophy during Chapter 2 when you’re tasked to enter the warehouse. There are 2 ways to enter it, you can distract the guards on the left by giving alcohol to the drunk sailors or going to the ride side of the area and passing a Strength test to open a gate. Feel free to distract the guards for another trophy, but don’t enter the warehouse this way, instead go pass the Strength test.

First you will need to find 3 hidden items in this room, they count for another trophy as well. Once you find them, climb up the ladder and place them (lever, wheel, ratchet in this order) and then you’ll be able to interact with the crank to open the gate.

You can fail this part, and the game will autosave as soon as you fail and it will void this trophy, so make sure to quit to the main menu immediately if you see your character struggling to open the gate! The gate should open right away after interacting with the crank, if not you’ll need to quit and try again. This is tied to your Strength skill level, this is why it can fail.

At the very beginning of the game you will need to get into the warehouse, but two bootleggers will not let you in. To get the trophy, you need to find an alternative path. Go around the warehouse from the side where the locals were crowding and arguing. Not where the fishermen and the cop were arguing near the dead killer whale, but on the other side. After visiting Fitzroy, these guys will disperse and the path will be cleared. We go there, we find a small shed with a hatch in the floor. In the same barn we find three parts, climb up the ladder near the wall, insert the parts and turn the lever. The hatch in the floor will open, and a hallucination will occur down there.

The trophy can be missed, but it is received 10 minutes after the start of the game, so it’s not scary.

Just don’t forget that pulling the lever is a random task and has a chance of failure, so for greater confidence, pump in a little power; on the crank action there will be a corresponding power icon in the form of a clenched fist.

I also pumped it up on purpose, by 1.5 points, but it didn’t work out. The mechanism is broken...We need to try again.

-Ratchet device - on the left wall in the broken sheathing to the left of the roof support beam.
-Gear Wheel - Rotate 180% and look to the left of the beam on the other side of the room. Partially hidden between metal plates
From the cogwheel, turn right and go up the stairs. Interact with the winch, then install the ratchet > gear > lever, then turn the handle. Requires Strength skill to be 50%
Jump down through the grate and turn right, we go through the water. A cutscene will play and you will receive the achievement.
