How to unlock the The voice beyond the grave achievement in Call of Cthulhu - Definitive Guide

This is unlocked during your first conversational encounter In chapter 14. Provided, Edward's sanity is very low (psychotic), it is story related and cannot be missed. You may choose any responses for this achievement, but exhaust all the R'lyehian responses if you are working towards this achievement:
Call of CthulhuFluent in R’lyehianThe Fluent in R’lyehian achievement in Call of Cthulhu worth 97 pointsChoose all the replies in R’lyehian

If Edward's sanity is too high, the conversation required for the achievement may not be triggered. However, since The Fluent in R’lyehian achievement requires low sanity, you will at least unlock it during the playthrough when you work on this achievement and the endings that require psychotic sanity.

@XPac23 Thanks for pointing this out. I did some research & came across this Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/CallOfCthulhuTheGame/comments/9v11p...

A comment suggests it is a bug in unlocking the achievement. However, upon going back to my game, I think it might not unlock if Edward's sanity is not low enough. In my playthroughs, Edward's sanity was always low at the end. This is required for The Fluent in R’lyehian achievement and some of the endings. I think, in your first playthrough, Edward's sanity was higher than in my playthroughs & that's why you didn't get the dialog.

I am editing the solution accordingly. Again, thanks for pointing this out.

It is missable. I didn't get it on my first playthrough. After the cut scene there was no conversation for me.

Not sure what my sanity was on my first playthrough. Maybe it was too high, because I didn't drink anything during it and I failed the strength check in the warehouse in chapter 2 to get that sanity penalty in the sewer area.

That must be why. Thanks for the info.

I was psychotic way early and still ended up missing this. But, then again, I also somehow missed the achievement to accept the Sarah Hawkins case in my first run

Shame about the achievement not unlocking. How did you miss it? Did you talk to Marie but did not pop the achievement? Or, did Marie not appear at all?

There are a couple of buggy achievements in the game. One of them is the Fluent in R’lyehian achievement that requires the R’lyehian response in the conversation with Marie. Thus, it wouldn't surprise me if this achievement is bugged as well.

Edited: I see you have now popped the achievement. Congrats & it must be a relief. Was it just a lag?

This game is really buggy, had 3 achievements fail to unlock including this one. Don't really want to go through this game again to get it

That’s a shame. What were the other 2 glitched achievements—was one of them Fluent in R’lyehian?

Story related and cannot be missed.

In Chapter 14, you’ll be in some caves and will eventually be talking to Marie. This is when the trophy will pop.
