How to unlock the Veteran of The Tank Squadrons achievement in Call of Duty 2 - Definitive Guide
To unlock this achievement, as it says, beat the Tank Squadrons mission on Veteran difficulty.
This mission is split into two parts (which will be covered below) Crusader Charge and 88 Ridge.
General tip while manning the tanks. Keep the back of your tank away from the enemy, on veteran mode, if you get hit from behind you typically will die. Thanks to Bob Almighty125 for this!

Crusader Charge
=================
This part is fairly easy. The point of the mission is to, of course, not die however you must also have at least one allied tank alive as well to pass this part of the mission. I did not have an issue with my allies too much, it was me that was dying.
You will want to run and gun. If you stand still too long you WILL get hit. You also want to avoid hitting the tanks head-on, it seems they have more armor on the front, best places to hit them are on the sides and back ends.
Focus on the tanks by themselves or with few allies, don't attempt to rush into a whole horde of them.
=================
88 Ridge
=================
This part is a little harder but still not too bad. You will need to take out two small groups of reinforcements and then your done with this level. You will not be able to use the same exact strategy for this portion of the mission that you used in the first part. You can not find solo tanks that often so just work on the outside of this group and try not to rush it. You will be taking out tanks and anti-tank guns. The tanks are really not too hard, it's the AT guns, they can rip you apart.
If within range, take out the AT gun first (they are destroyed in one hit). But if tanks are in between you and the guns of course take out the tanks. Same tips as above, keep moving, hit the tanks on their back ends, work from the outside in (don't try to rush).
===========================
Here are some general tips
===========================
- Cover is your friend. Don't be afraid to kill enemies but don't stay out of cover for too long and never stand in the open. Take cover and use it well. Always take cover when reloading. It only takes 2-3 hits to die not to mention getting sniped. If your flashing red TAKE COVER.
- Your team members, or mates, comrades, or meat shields (whatever you want to call them) are GREAT most of the time. They will take out numerous enemies and keep you well protected as long as you take cover and let them do the good deed of dying for country. If they are not advancing then you must do it, there are several times it pays to advance some and once you see them coming drop back. They also raid house pretty well (the bottom floor most of the times).
- In open areas with gun fire use smoke grenades. Also in open areas the best weapon to use is either riffles or snipes.
- In close areas (read raiding houses) use real grenades, they are the best weapon). Also equip yourself with anything that is an automatic.
- Many times if you get stuck try to go a different way or take different types of cover in different positions. There are defiantly different ways to make it through this game.

Thanks for the comment. I have redone this solution to state actual situations inside this mission rather than a blanket statement. I hope you find these helpful!
Let me know if you think of anything else I can add.
Thanks again.

There's not a great deal I can offer you in terms of how to get this achievement, it's all in the description, complete this portion of the game on Veteran difficulty, however you may find these video of the mission handy, it'll help you get your bearings on any part you might be stuck on and give you an idea of what to expect!
Also, remember to stay in cover and progress slowly, sometimes it's hard not to but try not to rush around, you're much more prone to make a mistake or run straight into an enemy and wind up getting killed and having continue from the last checkpoint, the game can get incredibly frustrating at points so be sure to take breaks from it if you need to, go and clear your head, calm down and come back to it feeling refreshed and ready to beat it, it's not good tearing your hair out over a certain section and continually trying it, the more frustrated you get the more likely you are to make a mistake.

a couple things that i would like to add are:
dont be afraid to use your binoculars in the second part of the mission. you can really cut down the enemys numbers, and if you do what did, you can kill several tanks without being shot at.(i just got on top of a small cliff/hill and started unloading rounds into them)
and #2, in the first part of the mission, always try to destroy other tanks while moving.by doing this, you can easily shoot others, whereas they cannot hit you at all. (unless you stop abruptly and try to get a little accurate with your shot, they WILL take advantage of that and shoot you simultaneously, just like what happened to me)

Nice solution.

The above solution is by far the best I've found on any website on the internet. The one bit of detail I would like to add is that if you get shot in the back of the tank, you will die instantaneously, as opposed to getting hit on the sides (2 shots kill), or in front (2-3 shots, depending on distance from enemy). To avoid damage to the back or sides of the tank, pull LT to align the main gun to the tanks body. I held it down a majority of the time and I reduced my amount of deaths drastically. As mentioned above, the Flak 88's will tear you apart much quicker than panzers, so make those priority 1. Don't be a hero, stay near and behind your comrades, so that they provide a shield from panzers while you pick them off from the outskirts.
