How to unlock the General achievement in Call of Duty 3 - Definitive Guide
Flag boosting is by far the fastest way to earn points. It will only really work if everyone in the session is up for it so be prepared to quit and start up a new session if you cannot get universal agreement. You need a minimum of eight people (who should all be party chat together) to search for ranked capture the flag games at the same time.
Once you have all found each other you will have to hope that you don't get any legitimate players join the lobby whilst the countdown is active. It might be worth one person in the party dropping into game chat to try and talk some of the non-party members into playing along.
When the game starts you need all players to gather closely near their own flag (but not on the flag spot). Then one player from each team needs to go to the other teams flag to be the thrower. The thrower should stand almost exactly on the flag spot (perhaps with it a little behind them) such that they can pick up the flag and then immediately throw it forwards into the opposition group and it will reset. Try to find a position that requires you to do the minimum amount of movement when doing this to save time. Each time the thrower picks up the flag he will get 1 point and each time the group resets it they will get between 1-5 points each depending on connection quality.
Keep doing this until the end of the match for between 500-1500 points. The thrower will generally earn less since they only ever get 1 point per cycle. Alternative the thrower each game to keep things fair.
Note that when doing this you are quite vulnerable to legitimate players coming in and wiping everyone out. Remember that they are perfectly entitled to do this, it is really down to you to ensure you either don't start if you can't get agreement or leave early if things start going wrong.

Yes like Fafhrdd said having the host intentionally lagging the match makes a huge difference and saves a LOT of time. I was able to get the general achievement in one weekend by doing this. However, I think when the host intentionally lags his upload, he/she will still only receive 1 point each time. So when doing this, rotate who's the host and have the host be one of the flag tossers that round. To lag your upload, send a large file through aim, etc. Try one file, then maybe 2.. dont do too much cause the entire match can lag out.

That is correct, host only will get 1 point per flag so he/she should be the flag tosser.

If you are going to flag boost this achievement it helps tremendously to have the host create lag. Every flag caught will be worth more, sometimes MUCH more, if the host is lagging. Obiously don't do this unless everyone in the lobby is a booster so that nobody's game is disrupted.
You can tell who's host simply by looking at the second player down in the lobby. If he appears in the 2nd position for multiple players, he's the host.
It's easier to create significant lag via uploading as opposed to downloading. Go to gmail and upload a huge attachment (up to 25 MB), discard it and do it again. If that's not enough fire up hotmail and do the same thing, though the file size limit for hotmail is only 10 MB.
For easier results go to a photo site like Kodak Gallery or whatnot and upload a huge amount of digital pictures. The upload should run for a decent amount of time, hopefully for the duration of the match. Just do it again for the next match.
With the host creating lag the flag catchers will get 1000-2000 points per game. Only the host needs to create lag, though. Other players creating lag will have no effect.

its only MUCH more if you got that Z style lag.

If you want to lag a connection, BitTorrent works well. :)

I'd like to share some tips with you lovely people as this is the second time I bagged this achievement and there's a few things to note along with the above solutions.
1. Have more than 8 people on your friend list that are boosting this. It's a necessity simply for the fact that you will need to work on this achievement constantly for a few hours a day for 10 or so days running. Having a mix-match squad online at most times will account for missing players on different continents, and its great to have a team ready to go quickly. This is actually not as hard as it sounds as approximately 3% of people you run into play this game legit, and most you run into will be down with boosting. Just simply send a message saying "Flag Boost" in the lobby, and they will let let you know.
2. Check your NAT. If your NAT ain't open, correct it. This can affect if players can join each other in the CTF lobby, and it can extend the time you need to search for a game dramatically.
3. Keep it 10 player minimum a game. The reason for this is that if there are more than 4 people around the flag, someone will lose out on points.
4. Start up other peoples games if they are not boosting, then quit. As stated in the above solutions, the host is the second person down, and if your sure the guy is an anti-booster, start up his game, quit, then search again, and you should be anti-booster free.
5. Take note of who isn't an anti-booster immediately and try to convert them / give them the "Treatment". The "Treatment", is where one person kills him, and someone else revives him, constantly. People will eventually get annoyed and leave.
6. Punish those anti-boosters. There are some seriously sad, sad people that roam the lobbies of Call of Duty 3 looking to ruin your boosting sessions. These people are Bonafide Jerks, and they generally have a bio that clearly states "Modern Warfare is a load of crap, CoD 3 forever!!". You have every right to file a complaint against them and (hopefully) get them banned for a day or two, because if you have 9 people boosting, and 1 guy running around messing it up, then that's 1 guy affecting 9 other peoples game. Get him banned, people! Don't feel hard on yourself, about 4 people play this game legit anymore, and I think it's so ungrateful these guys hang around on here instead of playing the newer games that get made for us.
7. When the host is creating lag, don't over do it. Have a few windows open, or if you have Fiber-Optic broadband, upload a torrent. You don't want to lag out the game.
8. Install the game to your HDD. The game has a tendency to freeze up mid-game and mid-lobby so ripping it to the hard drive will reduce the risk of this happening.
9. If your friends snag General before you, have them hang around as "ABP", the Anti-Boosting Police. Responsibilities include monitoring checkpoints when a randomer is running around the map, Giving the treatment, Flag throwing if needed, and just generally to keep the peace. There's nothing more intimidating for an anti-booster than to be set upon by your cohorts, as there ain't much he can really do that will affect them.
10. *Don't be Racist*. It might seem like a good idea to massacre that one French kid on your team repeatedly, or to run over the Czech guy in a tank just because he wont understand when you say "Flag Boost", but hold on first. This achievement is sought after by Boosters from all over the globe, give them a second to show you their intentions, or let them catch on to what your doing.
11. If you happen to have the easy job of sitting round the flag collecting those juicy points, Show some courtesy. DO NOT CONSTANTLY MOVE AROUND. Your position and stance have absolutely NO Bearing on the points you will acquire, that's all down to your connection to the host. Ideally, you should stand in a C shape in front of the flag thrower, and crouch just in case the thrower lets of a shot by accident.
12. If your the flag thrower, then you need to perfect your skill to maximize your points per game. Look for the "Sweet Spot". There is a spot by the flag in which you don't have to move back and forth to grab it, you can simply hold the Right Trigger and tap the X button to grab it. Also, swap to your pistol, you can throw the flag much faster as opposed to having your shotgun out.
I hope these tips will be helpful along the road to achieving General and the other rank-based achievements. Good Luck Guys!

Find at least 8 partners and go to ranked match - custom match - capture the flag. Keep trying until all boosters are in the lobby and avoid people you aren't sure if boosting -- one person can disrupt the boosting for the whole group.
Before starting the match, note who is the host of the match. The host is the second gamertag in the lobby list.
Once in the game, have one person from each team go to the other team's flag, capture it and drop it close to the enemy players who should be crouching or prone close to the flag.
Now that the boosting is going fine, have the host upload a big file to the internet. This will kill the host's upload bandwidth and cause a lot of lag in the match. The lag will trigger a bug that will cause each flag rescue to count multiple times. With this method you can get as much as 10 points per flag, averaging 2000 points per match.

This is just an addition to the guides above. Everybody should be medics for anti-boosters (unless you are going for the ammo supplier achievement). If you have an anti-booster in one of your games, you can have a medic from the anti-booster's team stay near him and a person from his opposing team kill him. Before he can respawn, the medic should revive him, then the opposing team will kill him ect. in an infinite loop. Hopefully he will quit. If not, just keep reviving and killing him. This is commonly referred to as "the treatment".
This job won't get as much points so switch positions every once in a while. The only problem is if the anti-booster is smart, they may choose the suicide option which will make it so they won't be able to be revived. Also, being a medic will help fix any accidental shootings.
Please comment on how I can improve my solution. I am always open to suggestions.

I don't know how much this helps but there's dlc maps for this game now i dont know if when you search you can set it to only map packs. if you get 8 devoted people doing this, it should go by much quicker, seeing there will be less randoms, also the map packs are only 400 Microsoft points or 5 buck in the USA. if any one wants to give it a shot, give me feed back.
Years ago the online for this game was extremely popular as you can always guarantee you can get randoms joining in matches that would prevent you from having a game with you and your boosting group, allowing you to progress towards the achievement easier. Nowadays the online for this game is dead since you need at least 8 people to start a match and whilst there are a few randoms around, they usually cannnot be bothered in waiting for a match to start-up.
So yes the online for this game is virtually dead. So in order to start-up a match for this game, you will need a minimum of 8 people. If you have additional XBox's and Dummy Accounts with Gold then that could be a possible recommendation.
Setting Up A Boosting Lobby
For this guide I will be assuming you have 8 people/dummy accounts. However the maximum amount of players which can do this is 12 at the same time.
OK so if you have 8 people/dummy accounts you can go ahead and form up a boosting group to play an online match and work towards this achievement. If you don't have 8 people/dummy accounts you will not be able to do anything since 8 is the magic number in order to start any of the Ranked Multiplayer game modes. Consider creating or searching for boosting sessions to help you out if need be.
Note: All of the online achievements in this game have to be done in Ranked Matches. None of them can be obtained in Player Matches.
When you have a group that are ready to boost in this game, everyone needs to choose "Multiplayer" from the Main Menu then from the Multiplayer Menu, they need to choose...
XBox Live
Ranked Match
Sign-In with there main account by pressing and then press to Ready
Select Custom Match
And then finally once you have reached this section you will need to choose Capture The Flag. But you will want to search for this game mode one at a time, because if everyone searches at the same time, you will most likely be placed in different lobbies. Here is where you need to decide on a host. Whoever searches first and gets a lobby on there own will be the host of the match since there name will be at the top of the screen among anyone else. Once someone has been decided they need to search for Capture The Flag.
Once that person has searched they should get in a lobby on there own, if not back out and wait until the randoms decide to leave so that you can get your own lobby. When ready get everyone else to search for the match and hope that they can form up with the host.
If for reasons you cannot connect to the host of the lobby there are some possible recommendations...
1. You have a conflict with the host of the lobby and the host of the lobby needs to be switched. This is done by having everyone backing out of the lobby and getting someone else as the new leader to search for Capture The Flag first.
2. You have connection issues with the game. Suggestions would be to back out of the Multiplayer Menu and go back into it. Dashboarding the game and restarting the game or restarting the console.
3. You may need to reset your router or turn off the console for a few minutes, possibly un-plugging the power supply for a short moment.
4. Or it can be a general fault with the game completely and if this happens, then everyone needs to dashboard the game and restart it or possibly restart everyone's console's.
Once you have 8 people in the lobby everyone needs to Ready-Up there status (including dummies). This is simply done by pressing the button to turn your Red Button to Green. If by any chance a random is in the lobby or decides to join, get at least one of you to quickly press the button to un-ready and turn the button back to Red. This will prevent the lobby from starting the match because 8 people need to have Green Buttons on. At this point everyone should consider doing the same and then hopefully the random will get the message and leave. May take a short while though.
Once your all alone and everyone has Ready Up you have to do a 10 Second countdown and then the match will load.
Boosting Method
When the match begins everyone must select Auto Assign and you will be placed in teams. Half of you will be on the Axis Team and the other half will be on the Allies Team. You can check your teams once you've spawned in by pressing the button. The team selections can be random so keep an eye on which people/dummies everyone's on.
You now need to decide who's doing the sitting down and who's the tosser doing the tossing.
I recommend everyone takes at least 1 turn doing the tossing unless connections are bad and only one person is good at it. The tosser gets less points compared to the non-tosser. Back in the old days of 2008, I was known to be a "Good Tosser". Ah... the memories.
Remember that dummy accounts don't need any points. They are around to start-up a match. So if you have a team which has like 3 dummy accounts and 1 actual player, a suggestion is to get that lonesome player to toss the flag for the other 4 players on the opposite team.
Tip: You can if you wish get the dummy accounts to leave the match since the host is the only player that can shutdown the game instantly. You can also idle this game throughout the match duration. You will "not" get kicked for idling.
Once two people (on each team) have decided to do the tossing, they need to run over to the opponents base and go to where the flag is. The remaining players need to head to their own flag and crouch nearby it with the button. Keep yourself a small distance between yourselves and the flag since the tosser will need a bit of room to throw the flag. Don't pile yourselves on top of your own flag or else the method won't work.
When the tosser arrives they need to pick-up the enemy flag by holding the button for a moment until they are carrying the flag. Then they need to flick and then quickly hold button for a moment to throw the flag forward. The crouching opponents will catch the flag and then it will return to the spawn place. Rinse and repeat throughout the duration of the match. Prepare to get sweaty fingers and become tired.
Now usually only one person would get credit for returning the flag, but because everyone is squeezed in together, everyone will get credit for returning the flag at the same time. The announcers will over-ride your messages on the bottom left side of the screen because a group will return the flag at the same time instead of one single person. Also you will have 2 teams tossing and returning flags at the same time. Don't be at all surprised if at some point you will lose all your sound during the match because the game cannot handle with this amount of pressure. This isn't nothing to worry about though.
Note: If for any reason you get disconnected off XBox Live during the match or your game freezes, then you will lose any XP you have gained during the match.
Outcome
A match is usually 20 Minutes and it will take roughly 1 Minute to get everyone in positions. Within this duration the tosser will get around 200XP - 600XP+ depending upon how well they play. The non-tossers will get around 300XP - 800XP+ depending upon how the match plays out.
If the game is laggy the tosser will likely get around 150XP - 700XP+ depending upon how well the match is performed and how laggy the game is. However a non-tosser can get around 800XP - 2000XP+. One person at the time I did it with me, I believe somehow got 2500XP in a single match.
Within an hours worth of boosting which is approximately 3 matches, you may get around 1500XP - 6000XP+ depending upon conditions. It is likely you will need at least 60+ Matches using this method so the boosting alone will take around 40 - 80 Hours as a group to see the light of the day towards this achievement.
Team Switch Glitch
Lastly there is a Team Switch Glitch that you can do in this game that could possibly make your Ranked Matches easier to boost on. It is done during Player Matches and I recommend you do it before you all decide to boost in Ranked Matches.
From the Multiplayer Menu choose XBox Live and then choose Player Match. Have only your default profile Sign In and Ready Up with the button.
Now whoever is going to be the host needs to select Create Match and choose Any Game Mode and make sure all the Private Slots are full to prevent randoms from joining the lobby. Player Matches can still be popular with randoms. Press to Create Match. You can check the Advanced Options by pressing before you Create The Match but this isn't required.
Once the match has loaded it is recommended everyone chooses the same team as everyone is based in. I recommend the Allies team but it doesn't matter. Then everyone needs to choose "Medic". There is a reason to it.
Now here is the important bit. As soon as you spawn in you need to press and press once and highlight the words "Switch Side". Do not press any other buttons here apart from the button. This is also included in the Ranked Match you will play next. This applies to everyone and dummy accounts that are in this match.
OK here's the fun part. You now need to find and kill your teammates. When you find someone and kill them, get them to punish you by pressing as soon they are dead. Pressing will only forgive you and will not count, wasting time on the glitch. Now once they are dead, get close to the body and then hold down to revive them as a Medic. As soon as they are starting to stand up, you can team-kill again. After getting a total of 5 punishments in the lobby, you will be kicked and returned to the mutliplayer menu of the game. Be sure you have "Switch Side" still highlighted before you get your 5th punishment. If you haven't done so and you get kicked, you have wasted time and you will need to return to the lobby to restart the process again. When your return to the multiplayer menu wait until everyone finishes doing the same requirement before searching for a Ranked Mutliplayer Lobby.
Tip: Originally when you are doing this, the host cannot perform the glitch. However when you get down to having 2 people left needing the glitch, first get everyone to still highlight "Switch Side" in the Pause Menu, then get the "host" this time to do the team-killing. Also make sure no one is on the opposite team. Once the host has been given 5 punishments and then kicked, the other player will be given a message "Game Session No Longer Available" and the match will shutdown, not only giving the host the ability to do the glitch, but also the player who got left behind and kicked out of the match.
When everyone has finished this method, get into a Ranked Match. Now here is where the glitch will be revealed. If you need to swap teams, press the button and then you should still have "Switch Side" highlighted. Press the button and then say "Yes" or "No", you will do the unbelieveable method of actually switching teams in a Ranked Match. Something that was originally removed. You can use this should you have a random who makes a surprise appearance and manages to get into a match, or if you have dummies on one team and you need to even out the amount of actual players.
For us, we've been using this method to actually reduce the amount of people tossing the flag. The idea is to have everyone on one team and keep one lonesome player which is the flag tosser on the opposite side. They then run over and toss the flag to everyone at the same time, making the rotations of flag tossing easier to congest and also prevents the game freezing up multiple times. In addition players who are tossing can use a dummy account to toss and keep their main account sitting nearby the flag to gain points since a tosser gets less points than someone sitting down and grabbing the flag that's thrown. Use this glitch to your advantage, it could save time towards completing this game quicker.
Remember that if you press and move the in a different direction "Switch Side" will be un-highlighted and you will be unable to perfrom the Team Switch Glitch unless you do another Player Match and repeat the same process as above.
Regardless of all the above I wish you and your team the best of luck in getting this achievement! Your going to need it.

This a quick guide about how i was able to make my internet so laggy that we would get 2-4k points every match. Internet nowadays is really fast, so I had to get creative to make it laggy. You just need a Windows 10 or 11 PC, I have a Windows 10 computer. You could maybe do this with a Mac but idk anything about them so you can try and adapt this to however Mac's work.
First have the computer connected to Wi-Fi not wired so it's already slower, then you're going to use this PC as a hotspot for your Xbox to connect.
Here's a link to how to set it up for Windows 10 and 11:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-your-windows.... You simply just click the wifi icon in the taskbar and in the bottom right of the menu that pops up is the mobile hotspot button, and you can right click to change the network name and password. Then connect your console to the hotspot like you would a normal wifi connection. I also installed a large Steam game, I did Apex Legends, cause it's free and 60 GB. But you could probably get the same effect installing a large Windows Store game, like Destiny 2
Now I ran into an issue that you might where it doesn't actually connect to Xbox Live, and I fixed that by following this guide:https://wccftech.com/how-to/how-to-change-between-2-4ghz-and... but for me when going to advanced for the driver in device manager, the option I had to change was called "Wireless Mode."
Now use the top solution's flag boosting, but just make sure this Xbox is the host by having it search in CTF first, and your game should be super laggy. getting 30-40 per flag and 2k-4k points per game, drastically reducing the grind. The only caveat is the host should never throw flags cause you won't get the massive gains, I never tested if the host get the massive return bonuses, so it's probably best if you setup this up on a dummy box to fill out the lobby. Happy boosting
TL;DR Use a mobile hotspot from your computer, connect a console to that hotspot, download a large file, like a Steam or Windows store game on that computer at the same time, and host the CTF lobby with this hotspot console and do normal flag boosting

To get these achievements you'll have to play a lot of ranked multiplayer matches. Score as many points as you can each game to get these faster. You can check the scores ingame by pressing . Take down as many of the enemy as possible. In objective games, make sure to be the one that scores the flag or secures the HQ, for example. Don't teamkill, as a punishment takes points away from you. You can view your current points by going to 'Leaderboards' and then 'Global Leaderboard'. If you have played ranked matches then the first page that comes up will show your rank. The star indicates your points, and you can press to view more detailed statistics.
