How to unlock the Throw a Dog a Bone achievement in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 - Definitive Guide

ALL CREDIT GOES TO AC OMEGA ON YOUTUBE

This achievement CAN be completed solo! You need monkey bombs, and either staminup, or the Level 2 katana (or both) to make a fast get away so you can make it to the required area before the monkey bomb explodes. This may take some trial and error, as sometimes the zombies will despawn before the monkey explodes, so try and throw it right on the edge of where the dog can reach.

Here's a video, again all credit to AC OMEGA, detailing where you should throw your monkey bombs and what route you should run to make it.

You can still do this solo despite an update that made this harder. When you throw your monkey bombs at the dog heads stay for a few seconds so that you hear some of the music play. You will HAVE to sword dash to your locations in order to get there in time and not despawn your zombies. The gondola one was easy. The model industries one is kinda tough. I sword dashed back to spawn and ran up to the windows nearby (in hopes to be slightly closer to the zombies so they don't despawn). The citadel dog is the hardest. It will take you some trial and error before you get it.

You can also use claymore for this when playing with a teammate, makes it so easy

So I can confirm this method does still work as of August 31st 2023 HOWEVER it does has a major bug, the first room classified as "Citadel" will not net you the achievement and will not count. When feeding the dog by the Wardens house make sure to travel all the way inside to the next room past the first room titled "Citadel" otherwise it will not count. I confirmed that was indeed a problem and the problem I was having.

For some reason this won't unlock for me. I did it on solo, and I fully fed all dogs and acquired the Hell's Retriever yet I received no achievement. Is this achievement bugged?

Activision came out with a patch recently that despawn's zombies when you run away from them. I found this video to be much easier to get the achievement!

Just a note for anyone who still wants to do this. The feeding of the dogs does NOT have to be unique, as long as you get the kills from the specific locations. While running this with friends two of us popped the cheevo feeding all 3 dogs from the specific locations however on our completion one of these dogs was complete. Our last friend had only fed 2 dogs at 2 locations, we tried feeding a previous dog from the third location (using claymores for ease) and the cheevo popped for him. This may save someone some time from having to restart and try again.

This achievement requires at least two players. One player will need to hold a zombie near a wolf head and the other will need to head to the places above and kill the zombie from afar. A sniper from the mystery box or the Auger near the shower will be the best options for killing the zombies.

  • Model Industries: This is the starting area, you'll have to shoot a zombie near the New Industries wolf from the top floor window and through a New Industries window. This one may be tricky to see so may require blind shooting.
  • Citadel: This is the tunnels, you'll have to shoot a zombie near the Cell Blocks wolf. There is a hole in the floor/ceiling directly below the wolf so this one is the easiest of the three to spot.
  • Gondola: You’ll have to shoot a zombie near the Eagle Plaza wolf while the Gondola is moving. Your view of the Plaza is unobstructed but the moving makes this the hardest one. It doesn’t matter whether you’re going down or up. It may help if the zombie holder allows the zombie to attack them to keep it relatively still, making it easier to hit.
This only unlocks for the one feeding the wolf but as long as the wolf doesn't disappear, this can be repeated a few times a game.
