After earning this achievement, Id just like to confirm some things for you.
To start, enter league play and play five placement games. This decides what division you are in. Contrary to popular belief, purposely doing bad to be placed in a lower league does not make this achievement easier.
Once you are placed in a league, you will then have to win five games. The five placement games do not count toward the win total, you must be placed in a division for the wins to count.
They are all team based, not FFA. Which is nice.
Now, the reason it isn't easier, is because regardless of division you will play people from all divisions as well as unplaced people.
Ok, to confirm.
Drawn matches, such as confirmed kill, despite counting as a victory on your combat card, do not count.
Secondly, you don't have to win all five in the same division.
You can get relegated or promoted, and your wins carry over.
You do not need a win streak of five, just five total wins.
However, if a new season starts, your win count does not carry over. You will need to be replaced, and then win five games
essentially, you start from scratch.
Update - if a season finishes, and a new one starts, you can't be placed until a new season opens, so do not waste time playing the placement matches, as they won't count.
Important - Do not attempt this before earning the level 10 achievement. League play does not count as a public match, therefore if you hit level 10 during league play your achievement will not pop, and as you are already level ten it doesn't seem like you can reacquire it. Info provided from the comments. Seems it will pop eventually from playing public, but I wouldnt risk it.

A heads up to people I would NOT do this before being level 10 in the multiplayer rank. I did, and what happened is it leveled me up to 10 from just the match bonuses, and now it appears I cannot get the cheevo for hitting level 10 in multiplayer public match.

Just an update, it popped for me once I hit level 12 (WTF?!) while in the middle of playing public match Team Deathmatch. So it looks like the game WILL fix itself if you happen to hit lvl 10 in league play it just takes a while

kill confirmed does count. As long as your in league play obviously.
However, if you draw the match, say 73-73, that doesn't count towards the achievement, although in game on your stats it will count as a win.

Great guide. I have to agree with the other posters that this achievement is way too annoying. I'm fairly competent when playing objective based games and I kept getting teamed up with morons or people playing for kills rather than capturing flags/planting bombs etc. Played two hours the other day and only won one match due to this.

No, the practice matches do not count. You need to obtain five wins after being placed in a division. Your two wins in silver count, so you will need to win three more.

On the screen where it says "Select Series", it says Season 1, Season 2 etc etc. You can tell there if a season is open.

I just started tryin' to get this achievement, but the game seems to struggle getting a full lobby: It takes forever to get 12 players because so many just leave the lobby, and when we've finally got 12 players, the game says: Need more players to balance out the teams. Was queued for probably 30 minutes yesterday with no result.

I feel like this will be or has been corrected now that the game is backward compatible. It's not like the servers are offline. This is the only online achievement that doesn't work and as of now BO2's probably the best Call of Duty folks can even play on Xbox One. Might as well fix League Play.

Some asshole illegitimately unlocked this achievement for me and the other people on the multiplayer lobby I was on today. I left the lobby instantly so I wouldn't get even more illegitimately. I wanted to get these achievements legit but I cant now.
Hopefully I don't get banned because of this. I know that this achievement is not obtainable anymore so I knew there was no way I should have earned this achievement. The amount of hacked lobbies I’m getting in, in public sessions is crazy! Probably 2/3 games I find have some kind of obvious mod (I.e I’m flying across the map, someone has god mode, a million dogs spawn, 1 kill gets me 3million exp..)
I’ve seen some people say that some lobbies trigger achievements to be unlocked, this same rule applies to World at War too. Does anyone have any experience with this? Would I get reset if someone has modded an achievement to unlock in a game that I’m a part of? I’d love to play online just for those 1/3 fair, fun matches~ But I don’t want to unlock a discontinued achievement if it will label me as a cheater and reset my progress.... so frustrating

I was playing BO2 earlier and fell victim to a modded Team Deathmatch lobby. This unobtainable achievement randomly popped along with 6 other achievements ( campaign, multiplayer and zombies ).
I've unlocked 43 / 50 achievements thus far and was hoping to earn the other 6 achievements legitimately, but now I feel robbed and cheated.
BO2 online is full of hackers now. Avoid public lobbies, stick to custom games and zombies if you must go online.

Just a heads up, a few days ago Microsoft scrubbed the servers of the modded theater lobby’s and glitches used via theater, that includes unlocking achievements for people, so this is now completely unobtainable unless you find someone who saved the mods before the scrub. Unfortunate for the 100% out there but if your lucky they’ll reinstate leagues as the games are being revived and brought to gamepass on Xbox.

I'm still a bit confused about this achievement. I just went into Mosh Pit and there is a banner at the bottom right which says Practice Matches - Preseason. Season starts in 17 hours. ^ It's because Black Ops 2 has become like Call of Duty World at War, where there's a lot of hackers that glitches the game files or something and causes public matches which of course people like us tend to play casual, unlock several if not nearly all achievements.
I personally know someone who took advantage of this glitch, just to unlock their last "Giant Accomplishment" achievement and they haven't been removed from leaderboards or TA score for BO2 reset.
Its really stupid, because the people unlocking the "Big Leagues" through this glitch will get removed from the leaderboards and guess what the irony is? Microsoft won't care about those who unlocked it and certainly won't reset them I can definitely assure you that because of GTA 4 "Wanted" achievement unlocked by joining a modded lobby (there's an actual forum on it and allows it) and Cod World at War where sometimes you play a random game and unlock 10th prestige or all achievements .
I can go on and on, but I'll stop at that I hope this game really does become backwards compatible, because its an astounding game and that Treyarch puts another season up for the community to try and unlock the achievement. (Although I wouldn't be surprised if it'll randomly unlock whilst playing league matches)
I hope this answers everyone's concern regarding this issue and I am sick of these games company not giving a month notice before they shut off parts of their game. It makes you think they don't value the customers or the game integrated achievements...
Waste of time really, there's no way TA doesn't already know about those hundreds of people. Plus those could just be people like myself who were trying for the Prestige achievement like I was before I got bored, or just playing the game normally. Apparently Black Ops II is like WAW now, the servers are completely infested with modders and cheaters.
I pretty much got what I wanted out of the MP, so won't be playing anymore, outside of Zombies, and I won't be joining any random games for that.

Going By This Alone Anyone Who Achieves This Should Not Be Labled A Cheater As Its Out Of There Control If A Modder Can Manipulate Our Multiplayer Progress
In Short This Is A Free Achievement As Modders Can And Will Unlock Your Stats Its Like Opposite Of Impossible

Best advice I would give is play with friends or set up a 'just for fun' session on this site. For reasons unknown I would almost always be matched up with the most useless morons ever who manage to go 2-16 on TDM... That is, if they don't leave the match... leaving you 3vs6 on Domination... If playing solo, be prepared to play a lot more games and you might break a controller or 2. In the end it took me 20 games (I would lose 3, win 1, repeat )

Ok I got the achievement now. It took me about 3 days to get placed for some reason so I'd recommend once you do you 5 placement games to give it a rest and check back every now and then.
I got my 5 wins quickly enough after that. Players in League seem to be a bit better than in other playlists so my main tactic was not to be the reason our team would lose. I played cautiously and stopped running around so much which in turn had me completing most rounds with a positive KDR and thus helping my team.
It's going to take a degree of luck with the team mates you get paired with of course

This achievment got unlocked for me with 14 other achievments the 3rd of august in a public searched team deathmatch at the end of the game "I DID NOT ASK FOR THEM" "I AM NOT A CHEATER" my nearly 10 years gaming history (achievments) on xbox 360 will proof that
What i know by now they probably delete the game BOP 2 on TA so it looks like i never played it.But it will probably takes time they still just looking up on people who got big leagues in june so i am kinnda last in line by now.
Wish i never entered that lobby and it makes one afraid to join any online game in future where its possible for hackers,modders to hack/modd a lobby,I didnt even join any boosting session on any call of duty on this site beacuse i knew it considered as cheating and was legal reassons to get a bann by thoose who made the cod series.
Last word not all who unlocked big leagues are cheaters never gonna be my fault beacuse a hacker/modder with no life would sit and mod/hack a lobby and getting people in trouble
