How to unlock the Black Ops II Master achievement in Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Definitive Guide
I could, and may well do a written, level-by-level guide, but only if I get enough indication that it would be a worthwhile use of my time…..
COD Black Ops 2 has one of the ‘easier’ veteran campaigns out there, but I’d still recommend a full playthrough on normal difficulty first, purely so you know what’s coming, and when. Don’t get me wrong, you’re still gonna be dying a bit, but this is nowhere near as hard as some of the other titles (unbelievable grenade spam in WaW, I’m looking directly at you….).
Your squad mates in Blops2 are pretty good at pushing forward with you, cutting off the enemy forward-spawns, but take note that they are not quite as good at actually disposing of some of the straggling enemy players while doing so. So watch your back. Also, as with the other titles, you will find that the enemy AI prioritises their main target as you, over your squadmates most of the time.
I’ve always found that veteran difficulty is a balancing act between a slow, measured advance, and a super-aggressive flashbang/shotgun approach – the former for the more open areas, the latter for the obligatory close-quarters corridor fighting. The same strategy works great in Blops2 aswell, or it certainly did for me…
Couple of pro-tips:
ALWAYS take the access kit – aside from gifting you some nice kit, it will occasionally allow you to make use of environmental weapons such as turrets, which are invaluable for thinning out the enemy.
Whenever you get Active Camo, use it. No brainer really, but if the enemy can’t really see you, they can’t really hit you either ?
For all the future levels, as soon as it is unlocked, use the Storm sniper rifle – it cheapens even veteran difficulty by allowing charged shots to penetrate through walls, thick walls. Coupled with its infrared scope it allows you to wipe out whole areas of enemies who don’t have the foggiest idea where you are, let alone firing back at you.
For all other weapons, I would recommend the Millimetre Scanner sight, for when you just have to see around corners, or through them.
Wherever possible, flank the enemy – they’re not expecting you to come at them from a flanking position – this can buy you precious seconds while they are caught off-guard, and really can be the difference between getting through an area quickly, with minimal fuss, or going at them full-frontal and dying repeatedly.
Anyway, re-reading this it doesn’t seem to be as helpful as I’d hoped, but if it assists atleast someone out, then it’s done it’s job ;)
And if there is any call for a written veteran guide, level by level, let me know.
Thanks for reading,
Dirt.
My tip is to use the Storm PSR. It's all you really need. And like said above, you don't need to complete those pain in the butt Strike Force missions either. The Storm is a sniper rifle that allows you to charge up your shots in order to kill your enemies behind great amounts of cover. It sort of feels like a cheat code in that you're able to see enemies behind walls and you're even able to see where they spawn and stuff too. I always found the missions in the past to be the most difficult, and since you're able to bring the Storm PSR back in time with you somehow, it makes them all the more easier. And be sure to bring the Access Kit because you'll be able to find some great goodies with it. Instead of starting a completely new game over, just go to Select Mission and then start with the first one. It's real simple. Good luck!
For this you have to complete all 11 Story Missions on Hardened or Veteran difficulty. The Strike Force missions are not required! It’s highly recommended to play on Veteran because it will also give you two additional silver trophies Old Fashioned and Futurist.
There's no time limit, so take your time, don't rush. If you're ever out in the open you will die, so always make sure you're going to move to a location which has a good amount of cover. Completing 5 challenges in each mission will also unlock some really overpowered weapons that will come in handy on your Veteran playthrough.
Basic Veteran skills:
• Use cover at all times - Cover is one of the biggest life savers inV eteran, without it you'd be... well, screwed. Wherever cover is available make sure you're near to it, you don't want to get caught in a firefight without any cover to quickly get to.
• Use Prone - Another life saver, this is one of the things you need to master to complete veteran, prone behind an object and slowly poke yourself out of cover to pick off enemies, and when you start getting shot slide back to cover again.
• AI - The AI can be useful at times whereas most the time they are really not. Use them as decoys, enemies will get distracted by them and you can pick the enemies of easier. However this doesn't always work. If an enemy has seen you then he will only go for you. Make sure you never run ahead of your team/AI, you never know what's lurking around the corner.
Go through the game on Veteran instead of hardened to unlock both "Old Fashioned" and "Futurist." Veteran is the hardest difficulty you can select. You need to learn to utilize cover and special grenades. Specials/Secondary grenades can often times get you through a tight situation with a lot of enemies. Most parts only have a certain number of enemies to fight so if you take them out one at a time, regenerating your health in between kills, you should be good.
I recommended the Storm PSR sniper as your secondary. You can see and kill enemies through walls without putting yourself in the fire fight. Primaries are of course your choice but a target finding can often prove to be helpful. However, you need to get fairly fair into the campaign to unlock it. You can unlock it then mission select to start with it from the beginning. Veteran for this game is not especially hard so this will most likely only help novice players.
