How to unlock the Mission Complete achievement in Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Definitive Guide

Ok, just finished this tonight and thought I would put in how I did each challenge.

First off, I started up the Pyrrhic Victory mission, which is the first one, and played on recruit. When you complete a challenge, you will get a career update in the top left corner, make sure you finish the level though, as it did not count for me when I quit after getting that message.

1.) Eliminate enemy personnel (x15) with machete -

You start the mission with the machete, and after the opening video, you ride on a truck to an open field where enemies start running at you. Just melee 15 of them, and this is done.

2.) Destroy all MPLA tanks -

After you clear out the mortar teams, you will be able to call in air support. The tanks you need to target are all clearly labelled as "Target" so you shouldn't be able to miss them. You will do 2 separate runs, on the first there are 4 tanks to kill, once you see them, start spamming LT and destroy them. On the next run I can't remeber how many tanks there are, but destroy the first batch, then you will turn around and there will be 6 more, start from the left and spam the crap out of the LT and destroy them all.

3.) Eliminate enemy personnel (x5) with one mortar explosion -

Ok, so what I did here was at the end of the level when you are escaping down the river, DO NOT kill anyone unless you really need to, and once you get to the bottom of the waterfall, kill the turret gunners on the jeeps, and wait for the enemies to start to group together at the bottom of the waterfall, then chuck a mortar in there, should get way more than 5.

4.) Sink enemy vessels (x5) -

Once you are on board the barge, eliminate the enemies and then get to the left side gun (Facing the back of the boat) and look straight backwards, and start holding down the trigger, you should get all of the boats except one, then run up to the second level and finish the last one off with the gun up there.

5.) Dive to prone on an enemy grenade and survive -

While you are on the barge, cut the chain on the box that is labelled "Access" on the first level where you jumped onto the barge, and you will get a vest to protect you from explosions. Once you are at the part where you are escaping down the river, stand right in the middle of the river, and strafe back and forth (I barely got hit, try not to kill anyone unless you need to) and wait till you see a grenade (You will see a white streak behind it), then back up and run and dive as close as you can get. I think as long as you take damage it should count. I didn't get it until the waterfall part by the way, so don't worry if they don't throw grenades at you right away.

6.) Eliminate enemy personnel (x10) with animal traps -

Once you sneak through a little section with Woods on your shoulder, you will come to a shed, pick the lock and grab the animal traps off the wall, and place them all over the area right outside the shed (There is an ammo crate right beside the shed, so keep reloading and placing traps). Then reload your ammo, and go up the path to trigger the cut scene. Once that is over start running, and once you get to the first point where you stop to protect Woods, lay down more along the river heading to the next area. You should get more than enough if you lay down a bunch of traps.

7.) Kill (x4) enemies with one mortar primed animal trap -

Ok, same as above, just plant mortars in a bunch of the traps, especially around tight areas where the enemies have to funnel through, like the first path after the cut scene and at the first stop on the escape route on the river.

8.) Use elevated improvised positions for confirmed sniper kills (x20) -

There is a Dragunov leaning on the side of the shed where the animal traps are, grab it. Now when escaping there are a few spots you can get to to do this (they look like crappy tree houses, 5 of them I think) 2 in the first area, 2 in the second and 1 at the bottom of the waterfall. Take out 20 enemies and this is yours.

9.) Collect Intel (x3) -

a.) Right beside the truck labelled "Access" where you pick up your mortars at the start of the level. Look beside in the crater and you will see the tape.

b.) On the barge, after clearing out the enemies, go up the ladder on the left (Facing the front of the boat) and it is on the ground at the first indent in the wall to your right, almost driectly behind the turret.

c.) At the second point where you have to defend Woods, there are 2 sniper towers, facing the way you came from, it is up in the one on the right.

10.) 100% survivability rating -

Play on recruit and you should have no issues at all. But if you do, just stay behind cover, and do your best to avoid RPG's, as there seemed to be quite a few when I was playing.

good luck, hope this helped, and let me know if there is anything I can change to help better.

Nice list. Have not tried to tackle this yet but off hand did not see the list requirments in the game for each level. Where are they?

When you go to campaign, on the missions select screen hit X, select the mission you want to see, and then I believe it is RB, under the challenges tab.

360a has a list of all the challenges. btw, the first level is NOWHERE NEAR the easiest to do this

i don't know which mission is easier, but that animal trap + animal trap with the mortars bits are stupid and make the first level inferior to others, just sayin.

Well, I played through the campaign and this was the level that I had the most done from just playing through normally, so i figured it was the easiest. And you put a solution of your own, and haven't won the achievement yet, so might be hard to trust when you say you have found an easier method without completing it.

Can you play the level over repeatedly and accomplish callenges each time or do you have to have them all done in one play? I haven't taken a serious attempt at doing these challenges so I was curious.

You can play the levels as many times as you want.

I know, it's very annoying, but what I did was copy and pasted the solution for every challenge in the game on a word file, then just deleted the challenge as they were completed.

Not sure if getting caught in the jungle out of cover ruins 100% survivability, seeing as you don't technically die, just get set back to the checkpoint. Someone should confirm this. But I restarted the level to be safe.

Is it just me or does seemingly random bullshit kill you on Recruit when going for 100% survivability? 😑

Yep. Random off screen grenades, unprompted vehicle explosions, the game will find a way to kill you on recruit.

NO, it's 10 challenges for each level, this is just the solution to complete all challenges for a single level, not the entire game.

By Paully05 on 31 Dec 2012 19:58
so its 10 challenges for the whole campaign and not each level?

To add on to the above solution at solution number 5, this tends to be one of the hardest to do since the enemies seem to not like throwing grenades too tough and can get very frustrating. What I did was right before you get to the extraction point, you'll have to pass in between 2 big rocks. Face the enemies as they're coming towards you and crouch behind the rock to your left. the enemies won't touch you or go anywhere near the rock (at least they didn't for me during the few times I tried this). You may need to stand up and shoot an enemy so the rest would know you're there and then just crouch back down. As the time goes by, they'll definitely throw a grenade but at least while you're waiting, you're not getting shot at by their guns or a rocket and the mortars won't touch you either. When they finally do throw a grenade, dive onto it. Now what may hurt you (which it took me about 3 tries to get the challenge), is that from waiting so long, the enemies tend to kill you much faster so try to time your dive wisely when they finally do throw a grenade. Now after you get the challenge completed, there's a chance that you may die from them shooting at you while making your way to the extraction point. If you do die, don't worry because the challenge is already saved. Here's a video to show you where I was exactly in case you don't know the area I'm talking about. I hope this works for everyone.

Thanks! I got way more grenades spawned there than anywhere else and half the time it was thrown directly behind the rock so less chance of getting shot at.

You're totally welcome. That one challenge is annoying so I figured that there had to be a safer way for them to throw grenades at you because once so much time goes by, the AI isn't so nice to you anymore by not letting you get hit with their bullets, lol. Glad the solution helped.

Thanks for the vid, it works.

However just so everyone knows, you are unable to to dive to prone in any of the water that is around those rocks. This can be annoying if the grenade falls into an awkward place.

Does it have to be thru 1 playthrough?

I'm not understanding your question. Does what have to be done thru 1 playthrough?

Wish I had seen this yesterday! I spend ages trying to get them to throw grenades at me and eventually did it the exact same way, but could have saved a whole lot of time if I had seen this! Only downside is that they sometimes throw cooked grenades, but at least you have a good point to do this without having to sit through the endless cutscenes over and over!

An alternative solution to get the achievement is to complete one of the Strike Force missions. I personally thought this was easier than the normal missions as you don’t have to look for collectables – just shoot stuff and blow stuff up!

I found the FOB Spectre mission the easiest to complete and here is a rough guide if you need any help:

1. Play the mission on Recruit difficulty. It makes it a lot easier and as mentioned on other solutions the Strike Force missions don’t count towards any of the achievements for completing the game on Veteran difficulty.
2. Learn how to use the ‘tactical view’ and try this challenge first as it’s probably the trickiest. Using the digital pad (up, down, left & right) is the key to getting this right.
3. Use all you units to defend points A+B. Just ignore the cooling tower (point C) as you will spread your force to thin to defend all 3 (plus you only need 2 points intact to keep the defence field up).
4. Keep the CLAW in between A & B and use it to destroy the enemy CLAW’s quickly. Use the Sentry Turrets to take out the ASD’s and Quad Drones quickly.
5. If you lose two points, and the defence field goes down, then order all you units inside the main build to defend for the rest of the mission.
6. All the other challenges are easy and can be done with the JSOC solider(s) moving between points A & B (using the pipes is quite handy).
7. It will probably take 3 or 4 mission attempts to get all the challenges, but nothing too difficult and should take less than an hour.

P.S. the achievement doesn’t pop until you’re back at the main ‘mission select’ screen so don’t panic if you don’t see it straight away.

It is possible to get the x5 mortar kills on the first battlefield. Just before the helio lands they all gather together right in front of you, just keep throwing. Got it with a bit of pot luck really !
