How to unlock the Welcome to the Penthouse achievement in Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Definitive Guide

Play hardpoint. Gets you tons of XP. Usually helps if you do well, but capturing a hardpoint is the easiest 200 xp you'll ever earn in your life.
EDIT: Due to a user suggestiing I go more in depth on how to gain xp and level up as quickly as possible, I'll do my best to get you to lvl 55 as smooth and fast as possible with the following tips:

-Contrary to what I said originally, FIND YOUR GAME MODE, whatever you like to play, have fun playing, or typically do well at, play it, as it will probably increase the rate at which you gain xp. The medals you earn after each game (like double kill, revenge, objective cap, etc) add to your xp total so every special action you do gets you more xp.

-For those new to COD games, each level requires progressively more xp to level up, meaning that it'll take a bit longer to level once you start reaching higher ranks.

-A big tip here is to use CHALLENGES to your advantage. The ones you will benefit most from by far are the weapon challenges. So, find a gun you like, use it a bunch, and as you level up the gun you unlock attachments and gain xp for completing the challenge to unlock the attachment. Once the weapon hits max level (level 20) PRESTIGE IT. You can do this by simply going on your create a class, selecting the weapon and pressing Y to prestige it. This will reset all your attachments and will allow you to earn the xp for unlocking attachments all over again. You can only prestige the same weapon twice.

-The last thing I could say is to put low scorestreaks like UAV, Hunter Killer, Hellstorm Missile, and Lightning Strike as they give boatloads of xp for being called in and getting kills with it. To get your scorestreaks quicker, I recommend using hardline and to PLAY THE OBJECTIVE. Black Ops II rewards the player so much for playing the objective and helping the team its insane. Now that they are no longer KILLstreaks everything you do has a certain amount of points attributed to it, and the amount of score earned for every action depends heavily on how important it is for that game type.

So, to wrap up:
Find your game mode, find your gun, prestige your weapons, get as many medals as possible, use low, team-assisting scorestreaks (like uav), and PLAY THE OBJECTIVE.

Hope this helps all of you get to lvl 55 that much quicker.

Also, maybe a list of the challenges so people can focus on them to try to grab bonus XP as the challenges on Black Ops 2 are not very intuitive and not do progress in the background like they do on BF3 or MOH.

How much xp to prestige is kind of a must know piece of info!

I respectfully disagree as the game always tells the player the amount of xp required to get to the next level, its not like you're going to get that exact number of xp by doing a certain thing over and over again, thats not how multiplayer works

I found this as helpful as it needs to be, given the obvious common-sense goal of the achievement. "Play well, Play hard". Thumbs up.

Thanks for the guide, although for me it was more beneficial to play Kill Confirmed.

I would be nice if there was a leveling guide posted here rather than a "play this mode"

People can try the different modes and figure out what may be best for them if they know where the end lies.

Simply put, does the first prestige need 10,000 xp, 1 million xp, 1 trillion xp? In most MP games, leveling is exponential meaning that half-way to prestige would be at level ~42 and not between levels 27 and 28 - does black ops do this or is the leveling linear?

Both solutions posted here are very unhelpful and unclear to someone just starting to play COD MP as Black Ops 2 is the 1st set of MP point achievements for leveling since COD3.

play league if your team wins you get a cool 10k in exp meaning 5-6 wins is what you need from level 55 to prestige 1 but if your team lose than you get 7500 exp

If you don't mind some hate messages you can turbo A & RT in a league match and just let it run while you're sleeping. With Double XP and 15,000-20,000 XP per match you'll likely get it in one night.

I had been doing Team Deathmatch for months to prestige. Given I'm a very mediocre player overall, this was a grind. I decided to do League Play in order to get the achievements associated with it. Once I discovered the 10,000 XP for a win and 7,500 XP for a loss, I finally prestiged in about 6-8 hours starting from level 43.

This does count towards unlocking attachments for your weapons and prestiging that, as well as getting completion towards Barracks operations. Leveling up does help with unlocking weapons, getting tokens, etc., but Lurking Lawyer is right in it does not seem to work for getting weapon camo unlocked.

I'm still new in black ops 2, but i managed to prestige in only 4 play time hours (with double xp of course) playing only league games,. The best part is everything is unlocked so you dont need to worry about using tokens and leveling weapons. Best playlist at least for me!

I started off doing this - and in fairness it does work quite well at racking up points, especially if you are - like me - a player of modest talents (i.e. rubbish!) and so won't get huge scores each round.

The only real downside is that because everything is unlocked you don't accumulate the bonuses associated with completing challenges and unlocking weapons etc. There is also a secondary issue in that there seem to be far fewer people playing League matches than in other play modes so it typically takes me a lot longer between rounds to find enough matched players to start a new game.

It's swings and roundabouts really - try both and see what works better for you.

For those of you who might like the achievement, but whom would otherwise choose not to prestige - there is an answer!

If you choose to prestige and then dashboard straight after, you gain the achievement but keep your 0 prestige, level 55 rank with all previously unlocked items!

Best of both worlds!

You need to choose to prestige - I'm no in front of my Xbox right now so I can't walk you through it exactly.

Once you've chosen to prestige and accepted all the warning pop ups that appear the achievement will appear. Then you can dashboard, come back into the game where you'll still be at 55 but with the achievement unlocked :-)

Exactly how much time does one have in between Prestiging and dashboarding afterwards? I'd rather not attempt this just yet lest I end up staying Prestiged and unfortunately having to reunlock everything again.

I'd imagine it may well work so long as you don't play another game. I unlocked the achievement and dashboarded with 10 seconds or so. Remember, CoD allows the use of the dashboard to avoid taking losses against your record, so the time to dashboard probably won't be that short - but to avoid risk, I'd wait till you see the achievement and immediately dashboard.

Okay my advice is to play kill confirmed ALOT it is a fantastic mode for XP gains simply find a class that works for you best and then bring it into kill confirmed. Try to play fast since you'll be running around after the dog tags most of the time.

Short and sweet reasons why you SHOULD play kill confirmed.

1. You don't need to get alot of kills to earn good XP just get the dog tags but remember to deny as many kills as you can its only 25xp but it keeps the game going!
2. Camping isn't as common as most people may run for the tags. So take advantage of them if the situation is right.
3. Matches latch longer since the scores only go up if both teams capture tags, meaning that the timer may be the way to end many matches.

Video below showing my class in action in a kill confirmed match and final segment shows me finally having prestiged after doing this method.

You need to reach the level of 55. Once you have done that, you will be given the option to prestige in your playercard. Once you do that, you will get the achievement. It's takes approximately 20-28?? hours to prestige.

To enter Prestige Mode, you need to reach the highest level in Multiplayer which is level 55. XP is rewarded for pretty much everything. Just keep playing the game modes that you are most comfortable with. Once level 55 has been reached, you can activate Prestige Mode in the Barracks of the Multiplayer Menu.

You need to level up to level 55! I advise you to play CONFIRMATION, experience accumulates quickly!

It’s not enough just to level up to 55, you also need to move to the first level of prestige. This is done in the Barracks - Prestige Mode. To get the opportunity to upgrade to Prestige, you need to gain a total of 1,249,100 experience.

In the LEAGUE, experience accumulates quickly. Regardless of how many people you kill, you are given 7,500 points for a loss, 10,000 for a win. And points for those killed, of course.

If you have the Nuketown 2025 map (which came with the pre-order and Collector's Edition), then this is a very sure way to gain a huge amount of experience.

Per round, you will receive from 10 to 15 thousand experience, versus 3-5 in normal modes. Why? This is the smallest map in the game. And you will meet opponents once every 10-30 seconds... consistently)

You can quickly level up (in my opinion) in the “large-scale war” mode or in the “bonuses” section.

If you have a map of Nuketown 2025, then I advise you to go to the “bonus maps” - a “chaotic meat grinder”. The smallest maps and the most profitable game modes are collected here. Also, stay tuned for news from the developers - they will be announcing weekends with double points (double XP weekend), which will last from Saturday until the end of Monday.
