How to unlock the Battle Tested achievement in Call of Duty: Black Ops III - Definitive Guide
When you're in a multiplayer menu, press the button on your controller and press RB to go to challenges. Navigate to the "Multiplayer" section, and you should see a screen showing those challenges which you are nearest to completing and overall progress. Each challenge you complete rewards you with a nice bunch of XP - have a look around this section of the menu and look for challenges that you think would be easiest for you and go for them in game. This might mean you need to frequently switch game modes, specialists and weapons to earn as many as possible. In most cases, you'll earn challenges through normal play, but they'll become less frequent if you don't switch things up.
To keep it simple, just take notice of the challenge which is listed as "Nearest to completing" and aim for that. Once it's completed, you'll see the next one to go for.
As KILLER1NST1NCTS suggested, consider jumping into Domination mode to start things off, since it is one of the quickest way of getting the objective type challenges.
Have fun!
The Nuk3town is a bonus multiplayer map that comes with new copy of the game. If you got the game used then it might not be included. I included a video if you are not familiar with the map.
However, there is a glitch to getting into a custom game, but being able to get XP as if in a normal MP game. The video attached will detail how to do the glitch.
To speed up levelling up, I’d advise having lots of classes pre-build and always aiming for headshots when getting kills (you will need at least 1 boosting partner) as the headshot challenges for camos (and specialists) will speed the process up.

NUK3TOWN is now available to everybody for free.
There is still a very easy way to do this
Game Mode: Capture The Flag
Map: Combine or anything that isn't too big.
So what you're going to be doing is grabbing the flag and getting kills whilst holding it as this gets you +200 points towards streaks and XP. Those 200 points towards the streaks can be used to unlock scorestreak challenges
(Remember to change scorestreaks when finished with a challenge.) and you will also unlock a alot of challenges naturally, this includes the 50 wins of Capture The Flag.
Using this method you should be averaging on about 5-30k XP per game dependent on skill level. This excludes challenges. This + challenges makes about 40-100k XP per hour.
Another method you could use to boost XP is the specialist challenges. The basic challenge for the head is 800 kills. The basic for the body is 700 kills. The more advanced challenges are 20 kills shortly after using said specialist ability, the other one being 40 kills with said specialist weapon. The final challenges are getting double kills using both.
Using outrider as an example it would be 800 kills for basic gear, then for the head: Kill 20 enemies tagged by your vision pulse, followed by rapidly kill 2 enemies who have been tagged by your vision pulse, 2 times. Finally for the body: The 700 base kills, then kill 40 enemies with the sparrow, then rapidly kill 2 enemies with the sparrow 3 times.
Note: You can not do the advanced challenges for the specialists until you have gotten the base kills.
You don't have to do all of these you can just pick and mix and see what works best for you.
If there is anything you feel is wrong with the solution or anything you feel I should add, feel free to comment or send me a message.
Level 55 is the highest level you can get in the multiplayer (without prestiging). For an average player, this will take around 24 hours of playtime (as tested by Treyarch). Depending on your skill, it will likely take between 18-30 hours to do this. If you want to hasten the process, your best bet is to play objective-based game modes, like Domination, Safeguard and Hardpoint, and constantly playing the objective. It is also wise to play in Ground War, as the lobbies are larger and thus give you more opportunities to kill people. If you have access to the Nuk3town map, then Chaos Moshpit is another great source of EXP.
Regardless of what you play, a great way to gain extra EXP is to complete challenges and unlock attachments, camos and reticules for your guns. If you want to be efficient, equip an optic on your gun and go for headshots/one shot kills to unlock camos. Assault Rifles, SMGs and LMGs require 100 headshots for their camos, whereas Shotguns and Sniper Rifles require 100 one shot kills for their camos. Each optic requires 500 kills while aiming down the sights to unlock their reticules. Every gun and optic has camos and reticules that can be unlocked beyond these requirements, but they are only available after completing these previous challenges. These final camos and reticules give large EXP, so they are worth going for. You'll also get significant EXP for unlocking skins for your Specialists simply by getting kills and using your Specialist weapons and abilities, so it is recommended you find a Specialist you like and stick with them until you unlock their skins.
Like all COD games, you won't be able to boost (unless you want to get your rank reset), as the moderators are very vigilant, so you'll have to play through it normally. However, also like all COD games, there are occasional 2x XP weekends, which are usually mentioned in the forums. These are an excellent opportunity to reach level 55, and are fully recommended if you don't want to grind this out.
