How to unlock the War Hero achievement in Call of Duty Classic - Definitive Guide
I followed Nevander's guide throughout, but then I found this guy's video walkthroughs and used them as well - it was a lot easier to see where guys are rather than find out with death after death. Included is the link to his channel, he has most of the levels, and all of the harder ones, uploaded.

It goes without saying, but for those who haven't begun your run at this achievement/are debating on it, your health bar does not regenerate and you do NOT get health packs; you start with a bar and it's up to you to keep it.

Great guide! Thx!

Yes this guide is awesome! I think the hardest missions are "Truckride to arifield", "Airfield" and "Battleship Triptiz". If you follow Trout's guide you will make it.

just a quick tip what i have found while playing if you lay down and just poke your cross hair around corners and then shoot the enemy you shouldn't ever get shot using this method

phenomonal guide, this is an amazing tip. I haven't even died since using this method

I finally completed the game on Veteran thanks to this tip. Most of the time the enemies didn't even notice me when I lay down and leaned around a corner. It is much easier to shoot them when they aren't shooting back at you!

Unfortunately for me, I didn't think to use any video guides until I hit Mission 15 and could not figure where to go, and just kept dying.
The upside was that it forced me to find a guide which youtube user 'chef123' did an amazing job of capturing, while playing the PC version of the original Call of Duty.
I tried finding a channel or group just dedicated to the '"classic" video walkthroughs but couldn't find one, so here are the links for each level:

All credit goes to 'chef123' for the stellar gameplay and time invested in these videos. Just wanted to make them available to the TA community and hopefully help with this horrendous achievement.

This isnt very helpful, but I strongly suggest you take A LOT of breaks while playing Veteran mode, keep in mind that it is extremely stressful and it is a challenge, or you'll end up like this guy. Oh and use the 'Lean' Feature as much as possible, it makes you invincible in some situations.
For the last part of Level 19, Pavlov's House, after killing the two tanks, I'd stayed on the same floor where the anti-tank rifles are located and went to the last room on the left.
You'll know you are going in the right direction if you're facing the other end of the floor where you look outside (missing the wall, basically) and go to the last room on your left (the room with the big hole on the floor) and go into prone position and hug the wall facing the door, in case any Germans show up, so you can blast their sorry asses, if needed.
The tough part is not shooting. You don't need to give them more incentive to actually enter the room. You know its working when you see a part of them in the wall and then blowing themselves up trying to kill you.
Around the 1 minute point, one or two might actually come in, kill them and stay quiet. A German outside the building will notice you, blast that fool and wait the Russians come in and blast these fools to kingdom come, they do all the work, you will stay alive and be lazy.
The end!
I do hope it works for you like it did for me.

Welcome soldiers to Call of duty classic the first installment in the Call of duty series. Now pay attention and listen up and you might just survive!
Now the first thing to know is that this game is by far the hardest Call of duty to date on Veteran for several reason. You do NOT have regenerating health on veteran(or any difficulty). Neither is there any med kits. This means you must complete each level with 1 health bar. You also do not get ANY checkpoints if you have below 33% health(which only takes around 2-3 bullets to drop it that low). Therefore if you go below 33% and have more than 10% of the level left just go ahead and die. You do not want to make it through just to die at the very end and have to go back 30 min.
Now some tips that should be used on every level is to use the lean feature by pressing left or right on the d-pad. By going prone and leaning around corners you can sometimes shoot the enemies without them being able to shoot at you.
Also make sure to take the levels slowly and remembering where the enemies stand since they always stay in the same place. As far as i know there is no levels that has infinite spawning enemies which means there is no need to rush the levels. The exceptions are levels with a timer. They tend to have infinitely spawning enemies.
Any level where you're in a vehicle and have to shoot are a real pain. Especially the level "truck ride". For these levels there is not much advise i can give you except to keep at it and you will eventually do it. Make sure that you do not miss once with panzeschreck or you will die very fast.
Now the only level i remember specifically having trouble with is "Pavlos house". Now this level is a bitch. You have to clear a 5 story building with NO checkpoints. The fact that enemies can shoot you through cracks in the floor/ceiling/roof makes this level 10X harder. The way i did it was i started with the bottom floor and took it level by level leaving the basement for last. Make sure to take it very slowly and check for cracks in the walls where the enemies can shoot you(and you can shoot them). Using your comrades as a bait to see where they are is a very effective method. After taking care of the tanks and have to defend the house and survive the attack head W facing the house. Go to the end of the road and when you reach the roadblock take cover behind the house. In this spot enemies will rarely come up to attack you. You still need to lean out so you can take care of the few that comes after you.

Just like every Call of Duty game to come after it, you must beat the game on Veteran. Refer to the road map for several tips on the campaign overall.
Nevander has written a fairly comprehensive walkthrough for the game, which can be found HERE.

Just follow my tips in the above guide and you should be able to do it. It is by no means an easy trophy. Just stay calm, and keep retrying. It can be done.
