How to unlock the Turnabout is Fair Play achievement in Call of Duty: Ghosts - Definitive Guide
Once you have the weapon, you must get 50 kills with it, and the achievement will unlock. The achievement is NOT cumulative, and will keep count. This means that players will probably need to take turns takign the Venom-X ammo until they unlock the achievement, as you need a good amount of ammo to get 50 kills. Flares will help with this achievement. Also, the Final Boss has regenerating health, so theoretically you can boost this in the final area of the Nightfall map. Just continue getting kills until you have the achievement, then finish off the final boss although this method may take 40+ minutes.
The Venom X is found in the center room, ground floor, in the 3rd area of Nightfall. You need to drill a hive at the door of the room before you can access it. You also have to get all 50 kills in one game, and reloads for your Venom X are dropped by random Cryptids. Refills look like a yellow glowing floating egg shape.
On your way to the Venom X room, you will want to get as many challenges as possible to make this easy. The key is once you've opened the 3rd area and drilled one hive in that area, if you wait about 2-4 minutes, Cryptids should start spawning endlessly, getting gradually harder as they go. If you retreat into the entrance of area 3, you should be able to camp the Cryptids quite effectively and also get Venom X refills often. Also remember, RT to shoot the Venom X, and LT to detonate after shooting! Very useful.
I found this extremely easy playing solo, however I have had a fair amount of experience with Extinction.
I went with this setup(NO relics): Weapon Specialist, Revolver, Incendiary Ammo, Armor, Shield, and IMS.
I upgraded in this order:
Weapon Specialist +4
Armor +4
Pistol +3
Ammo +1
Shield +2
Ammo +3
Shield +3
IMS +3.
I may have switched the IMS, Shield, and Ammo around a little bit, but that's approximately how I did it.
I would mainly start the drill, see what the challenge was, then spend money accordingly. Doing that is extremely important so you don't mess up a challenge by having something active that will kill Cryptids accidentally. I did have some tricky challenges, however in solo they seem easier to complete simply because there are fewer Cryptids running around. Also, Weapon Specialist helps a TON when dealing with Rhinos. I had 3 Rhinos spawn at the same time on the last hive in area 2, and running around while spraying them with Incendiary rounds worked really well.
I got a locker key, which was very useful. I usually open the green boxes until I get a locker key, then stop searching them until after I've used the key. Also, I bought the LSAT as my secondary, and was able to equip it with a full outfit of attachments: Rapid fire, Red Dot, Muzzle Brake, and Grip which all came from green boxes between the first and second areas.
For the first Breeder fight, make sure to have your Weapon Specialist maxed, and unload into the glowing part with your favorite gun! It goes down really fast on solo, and activating the fire trap can cover your back handily.
Make SURE to drop an IMS on the drill whenever things are getting hectic, it'll save you a lot of times, especially if you are repairing the drill! And when Rhinos show up, drop an IMS and then focus on the Rhino.
And last tip--I would save Hypno Knives for the Phantoms only, and use as many as I could on Phantoms. It really makes life easier!
I hope these ideas will help someone get this achievement solo, and let me know how it works for you as well as any suggestions and comments!
Once you have the weapon, you must get 50 kills with it, and the trophy will unlock. The trophy is NOT cumulative, and will keep count. The Venom-X becomes available after clearing the middle hive in Area 3. Once you clear the hive, the Venom-X can be picked up inside of the room. All members in your group are able to pick it up for free. The gun is extremely powerful, but comes with very little ammo, and additional ammo for this weapon is picked up from dead enemies who drop a small glowing egg. The following video will show the weapon location in detail:

The Venom-X is Nightfall map’s figurative Wunderwaffe. It is a powerful weapon that relies on underdeveloped Cryptid eggs as ammo. It is found in the middle room of the third area, the Weapon Facility. To be sure, the Venom-X can be picked up by all team members, and they don’t occupy the other weapons’ slots in your inventory. Their powerfulness, however, is eclipsed by the low ammo count of four. Upon picking up the weapon, the killed Cryptids (not necessarily killed by the Venom-X) occasionally drop ammo in the wake of the demise. The ammo is a yellow, glowing egg that you pick up using . Given the weapon’s instrumentality in defeating the Breeder, it is best that you dedicate yourself to this Trophy in a separate playthrough.
If you compare this Trophy’s description to the one of Phantom Exterminator , you will notice the absence of the “in one game” requirement here, whence the confusion arises. While conflicting reports are given over whether or not this Trophy is cumulative, to err on the safe side it is best to go for this Trophy in one playthrough. With that fact in mind, it is best to start using it as soon as it unlocks. Given the scarcity of the ammunition for this weapon, it is best that you attempt to kill the weaker Cryptids (the Rhino, for example, takes a few hits to kill with the Venom-X so don’t focus on him unless necessary (i.e. teammates down…etc). Even better, you should kill Cryptids if they are clustered, so use the flare if you have it. (Hint: using a fully upgraded Engineer can make the Venom-X shots significantly more powerful. Thanks to Jerry Appleby for the tip!)
A good farming spot is during the final encounter with the Breeder. Instead of shooting the Breeder and thereby inadvertently prompting the earlier emergence of stronger Cryptids, focus only on the Cryptids that appear. They start appearing ad infinitum, so it would be in this area that the Trophy unlocks.
Here’s a video showing the Trophy’s unlocking:
