How to unlock the The Price of War achievement in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) - Definitive Guide
Not so much a solution as some tips , I found MW2 FARRRRR easier then MW1 on veteren it really isnt that challenging... The checkpoint locations are much friendlier and the enemy doesnt seem to throw half as many grenades as in the first.
-Most important thing about playing veteren is to always go prone , stomach flat on the ground whenever possible , you will take FAR less damage this way , only drawback is you move a bit slower so whenever you take some damage move around a corner to heal .
-simply advance to a spot in the level near where the enemy is and get down prone and let your teammates mop up the rest of the guys . All you have to watch for then is a guy running around a corner or a grenade.
-Whenever you get the chance to grab the riot shield keep it throughout the level and let your teamates kill them as you flank around the outside and distract the enemies. Dont forget to get on your knees so the enemy cnanot shoot your feet.
-Almost always best to work your way around the outside of the level instead of rushing through the middle
-Whenever you have access to something like a predator missle , abuse the hell out of it.
-If you ever seem stuck try another route or like i said above alot of times you can simply rush ahead once you spawn and get a great position before the enemies can get into place , your teammates usually dont move up until you do .
-I also didnt notice many points where the enemy seemed to continutally spawn until you reached "location x" so alot of times you can sit back kill everything that moves then wait for your teammates to say all clear so you know its safe.
-I think the hardest part i can remember is the safehouse where you have to protect the computer while it downloads the data , there is a table with green ammo containers near all the windows in the room with the cpu stay prone under there and kill the guys as they come in the room , every now and then one guy will stand by the cpu and open fire trying to destroy the cpu so you have to be nearby in case he appears , this is a good spot to use your flash bangs or grenades.
Hope some of these tips help ...

since seeing my wife do MW2 on hardcore I can say that the download part varies GREATLY as to its difficulty , She barely got anyone coming in to destroy the computer and she only killed like 10 guys total. On my playthrough i dont recall any guys helping me in that scene either!
If your having issues afterwards i recommend just running out the door once the checkpoint spawns and heading directly for the goal. As the enemies are getting into place you may take a couple hits but once you take your first hit launch a flashbang into the air as you run , then count til 3 and launch another, you can use up two til you get the large hill where you should then get a checkpoint . After you get the checkpoint go ahead and launch your final two flashbangs into the air , this will stun pretty much everyone in the area .

Good tips.
It's much more easier than MW1, maybe because they throw away unlimited spawn of tangos until you reach correct location. now you can safely bang all and move safe forwards

If you find Veteran to be quite difficult, you might try doing some Special Ops missions for some practice. Many missions there almost directly relate to the game. Start with Regular and work up to Veteran. If you can pull off these (even on hardened), then you're more than prepared for Veteran campaign.
By far, protecting the computer while it was downloading proved to be a big challenge. Either strategy above works well. I personally took the under the desk approach and used claymores.
Also, when you have to storm the White House, I found that taking the right path at the right time was a bit difficult. I found myself trying to go Rambo, and would die quickly. Taking it slow and letting my allies take down some gunners proved to be far more effective.

Totally agree with ninja277! MW2 is a million times easier than the first, parts to look out for are protecting the DSL, go nuts with the claymores, go prone at the top of the stairs in front of the main door and use your flash bangs sparingly as these will aid your escape! Also The "Enemy of my Enemy" can be a bitch, easiest thing is to dash straight through, only stopping to shoot enemies who have spotted you or will spot!
Now that Infinity ward have got rid of the respawning enemies mechanic it is alot easier to progress through a level, especially ones like "Takedown" and "Hornets nest" but be warned the enemy AI is smarter than CoD4, they won't just stand there shooting like before!!
One last tip, pop in and out of your sights like you were trained at the start, you'll be surprised how effective it is!

In Loose ends where you have to protect the computer.
I crouched down at the top of the staircase as there was no way the enemy could flank you and you had a visual on both of the main doorways that led to the computer.
I also agree with N0T0RI0USnFaMuZ that escaping once you had the intel was far more challenging than protecting it.

This guide is a glitch, so don't read it if you hate glitches;
Requirements;
Hard drive, memory stick (USB or xbox brand)
Step 1. Have your save completed game on both memory units.
Step 2. You get to the end of the mission say, the first one where you get a checkpoint before you go to the helicopter, save and quit.
Step 3. Load your save on the second memory unit, go on winter contingency veteran, save and quit after the first checkpoint.
Step 4. Load the saved game which you got to the end of the mission, and finish, it will say you've done it on veteran!
To summarise, get to the last checkpoint, save, load on other mem. stick and play one checkpoint on veteran, go on the main mem. unit, finish the mission, BAM! achievements
***EDIT***
You have to do this for all missions
I discovered this while i was actually doing veteran and accidentely loaded the wrong memory unit and it was on endgame, while a was about to leave i noticed i had the option to lower the difficulty, but by this point i had only 4 missions left
.
I hope it helps :D

Really only two things need to be said.
1) take your time. Few missions have any time limit. When you take your time you can be thorough. The enemy that is going to kill you is the one you miss and walk past.
2) If you die, try a different method. eg. In loose Ends I tried camping at the top of the stairs while protection the computer. The problem is once the guy by the computer died the enemies came from the room behind the stairs (with all the guns in it) and I couldn't see them. When they destroyed the computer instead of starting back at the top of the stairs I went into the room with the guns by the computer. That worked. There was lots of cover and when wounded I just had to jump on the tables and no one could get to me. In addition to that I had near endless ammo.

I would just like to add that completing the campaign includes the level 'No Russian' where you go through the airport with Makarov and his gang. To complete this level easily just start it on veteran, pause, and select skip level.
It is a solution for the famous computer...
I tried everything and found that the easiest way is to put claymores of course and to stay ( squat ) under the stair.
when you fisrt enter the room there is the kitchen on your left, the stair right in front of you and the room with the computer on your right.
To defend it, you have to be with the stair on your right, and the computer in front of you !
Doing so you will have a clear view on those who enter in front of you and those who from the kitchen and the basement.
I had so much trouble doing it in normal mode and i succeed during my first attempt on Veteran !
And more generally, to progress on Veteran, you have to be reach ponits where you respawn...
Sometimes you can do it Rambo Style !
