A guide on the Immortal Achievement/Trophy for Modern Warfare 2 Remastered.

1/5/2020 - Can also confirm restarting the mission via the pause menu doesn't void it. I did all the missions in one sitting and restarted when I died. I ended up doing S.S.D.D again as I was doing the BX achievement beforehand. Think I forgot to restart the mission after getting it.

For this you don't need to do all the mission in one go. You can do each mission via mission select on Recruit difficulty. I tested it myself on PS4 and was able to get the Platinum.

There are some things you'll want to take note of though...

Shooting General Shepard at the start, shooting your teammates and civilians etc will revert to last checkpoint.

Other sections of the campaign you need to be aware of is the jump you have to make at the end of The Hornet's Nest. The breaches you have to do on the mission. The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday, killing the civilians will revert to last checkpoint. Also in the last breach of this mission there are explosive barrels with C4 on them. Don't shoot those as that will revert to last checkpoint.

For Exodus don't get run over by the APC, I got ran over a few times getting distracted.

In the mission Just Like Old Times when you do the breach make sure you don't shoot the C4. Also make sure you escape on time.

The biggest problem I found was rushing ahead would get me killed even on Recruit as the melee attacks from the enemies is insane especially from behind. Also the enemy grenades are still powerful on Recruit.

Overall not that hard really, I wouldn't recommend doing this straight away if you haven't played the campaign in a while.

Another section to watch out for is the start of “Second Sun”. If you run straight towards the building you’ll be in for another 5 minutes of autoscrollers because a car might land and explode on you.

So now having done the achievement (and since no one except OP and Flolly has offered valuable information), I can say that you can attempt this achievement via level select. What I did was play a level until last checkpoint, did the veteran glitch, and then immediately replayed the same mission again without dying/reloading. In the event I did die, I backed out to the main menu and selected the mission again.

With that said, it's not a true ironman mode and I assume it just invisibly tracks what missions you've done this on (like how missions visibly track your highest difficulty completed), so you can attempt the missions in any order via level select until it pops.

Great guide! I didn't get it right away and kinda lost track of what missions I may have died in since I did mission select so I started from the begging and worked my way to Gulag where it poped there. Looks like to me the latest playthrough of a level has to be the one with no deaths/checkpoints.
I had played through on recruit first time round and made a note of which levels I had died on. After finishing the story I then went through and got the intel's, during this I had died on levels I knew I had done deathless. Those levels I had to replay to get this achievement to pop.
So to me it seems like it doesn't permanently mark them as deathless.

I feel like this achievement is definitely bugged. I've played through the story two times focusing on getting this. All one session on recruit which took about 2 1/2 hrs to finish each. No deaths, no checkpoints, nothing. So I am trying to figure out if I should delete save and start again.

I just spent 5-6 hours replaying every mission to do every achievement including this one, restarting every mission if something went wrong or I died, and it didn’t give it to me. Very infuriated.

I didn't take any chances because people said it wasn't unlocking for them. Here's how I did it:
After unlocking every other achievements, I decided to delete my save file and re-do a Brand New Game. I did it on Recruit, in one sitting , I always make sure to hit Start> Restart Mission IF : (I got killed/doing friendly fire/failed a objective) and I also never skipped cinematic and credits. After completing the game, the achievement pop for me in the Main Menu. Good luck to all

Achievement finally popped after deleting save from console and online. If you have done everything and are missing just this achievement, I suggest doing as I did and deleting the saves. Do a fresh new game on recruit and if you die/fail, you can restart from the start menu. Overall should be faster than trying to guess and play around with the levels.

Will confirm you Do have to make the jump at the end of Horners nest, an earlier comment said you don't. I missed it once and didn't replay mission until after finishing the final mission. Soon as I replayed Hornets nest and made the jump the achievement popped. Seems obvious it wouldn't count if you died there but it has still unlocked anyway for some if they missed the jump but not for me. Sorry to anyone having issues unlocking this achievement, it would be extremely annoying to me as well. This was the last one I needed for completion.

If you die, friendly fire, or fail mission you have to restart that mission only from the pause menu until you get a clean run on it. Not any mission you already finished clean.

@LyingCobra0479 if you die during a mission you can select Restart mission. It won't void the achievement. It doesn't void the run. I would suggest doing it all in one go as some of the achievements are a bit glitchy at the moment.

No Russian is not required for any level-specific achievements, nor progression achievements, due to the sensitive nature of the level itself. While it is WONDERFUL to get certain achievements on (no reload, riot shield, grenade launcher) it does not count toward any counters related to campaign completion.

EDIT: The progress bar for the achievement ISN'T tallying up. I've made a tick off list of all missions in the campaign using Samsung Notes on my phone, and just ticking them off one by one.

I had to replay 6 Missions via Mission Select before it finally popped on "Wolverines", which I had no issues with the first go. Bottom Line is if you don't get the achievement, don't give up just redo them via Mission Select.

This isn’t that hard but super frustrating. I’ve died more times than I count because of useless AI allies can’t shoot the one enemy I missed that was hiding in a corner. Also might I add I unlocked the achievement before I even finished the game. It unlocked at the end of enemy of my enemy.

Just going to leave my experience with this achievement:
After doing my full Veteran playthrough I went back on Recruit to get this one, for the most part just selecting a mission from chapter select and playing through in one sitting from there. I didn't get it after beating the game, so I stated playing through again while selecting each mission individually in chapter select - it unlocked after I completed The Gulag

I just completed my veteran run where whenever I died during a mission I would immediately replay it through mission select on recruit making sure I didn't die or reload checkpoint. Achievement unlocked right when it was suppose to. If I messed up during the replay I would reload the mission from the menu and never use restart mission. Good luck!

Played through the entire game on veteran. Went back and played every mission again on recruit. Didn't pop the achievement. Cleared my data so that I could also get the other glitched achievement for getting intel that was stuck at 45/45. Completed the entire campaign on recruit without dying, and then made a new game and tried it again and the achievement has still yet to pop. Not even mad at this point just disappointed as to how little effort was put into this achievement.

Update: Wiped my save data (for the 3rd time), played through the entire game on recruit difficulty dying only once on the mission takedown. I saved and quit, then restarted the mission and then continued on the entire game without dying. The achievement finally popped as soon as the credits started after killing shepard. Thank god I don't have to ever do that again.

This really is quite easy, I did it in one sitting too in maybe 5 or 6 hours. I ended up dying 4 times, once when honey badger ran over me in Exodus, once because I put a claymore near a breach door and it exploded somehow as I was breaching, once while controlling a pred missile in contingency out of cover, and once just by being too aggressive. With a little bit of experience getting through this is a joke.

Hey BabyishDuck. It may be worth mentioning Cliffhanger as one of the levels to be careful on in the solution. I died 3 times in a row on Recruit on the snowmobile section. Crashing into a tree or failing the jump results in a death. You can also die at the start if you fall off the ice wall while climbing it. I personally found that level harder than the others that you mention in the solution.

Just got this achievement today. Every time I died, I Save and Quit, and restarted the level from the main menu. I also beat the level Exodus first then I beat the rest of the levels in order and the achievement popped during the credits.

Im prety sure I've gone through all the missions without dying so my only question is by accident i did Team Player and towards the end i accidently turned a intel modifier on but quickly turn it back off, could that be the reason.

For anyone still going for this i came back to it and did it over the last few days.
I saved and quit when i failed a mission and reloaded from the mission select. Did them all in order but not in one sitting. Used quick resumed a few times too. Popped when i skipped the credits.

I can confirm you dont have to do it in one session. I completed the campaign over 3 sessions, just make sure you always save & quit and reload the entire mission from the main menu. Especially when you just booted up the game, never use "continue".

I think the achievement title is very badly worded. Can someone confirm if it is...

"Complete every mission without dying" or "Complete all missions without dying"

The former suggests it has to be done all in our sequence (even if they can be played out of order) and the latter would suggest as long as you complete each mission without dying it doesn't matter what you do in between. Hope that makes sense.

Just wanted to comment as I saw a few others mention this and it did seem to work for me.

If you think you played through and didn't die, try using mission select on 'The Gulag' and playing it once again without dying. That finally popped the achievement for me. And that is despite having just played the level without dying by naturally progressing through the story (on my 2nd attempt at the achievement).

Did around 2 or 3 playthroughs trying to get this achievement, with no luck, skipping more than 2 missions each time by loading up the mission after competing the previous one and saving and exiting, as I knew previously I had complete them deathless on the previous run . Finally I deleted my save and did a fresh run of the campaign, dying multiple times on the second last mission and saving and exiting each time and low and behold it finally pop. I did not try another run before deleting my save without skipping more than 2 missions so maybe loading into a mission then saving and exiting prevents that mission from counting unless competed again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had no issues with this achievement by doing the following:
- I played over multiple days, fully closing my game between each session.
- I also always restarted my console before launching the game, as I found when I didn’t I had issues with achievements taking ages to unlock or not at all.
- Every time I started the game I always did mission select to pickup where I left off. I didn’t quit out between missions.
- When I died/shot a civilian/etc. I did save and exit and then did mission select. I didn’t quit out of the game.
- The mission order didn’t matter. I started with Cliffhanger as I thought I did the requirement in the first two missions but then I remembered reloading a checkpoint in both missions. Once I completed them the achievement unlocked.
- I did the Veteran run first and then this. I didn’t have to delete my save, but I didn’t do the exploit. It probably doesn’t matter.

I completed all levels on recruit. Restarting mission everytime I died or had friendly fire. After the last mission I skipped to main menu and never got achievement. Do I have to watch the credits?

EDIT: so turns out that when I did my veteran play through I forgot I killed shepherd on SSDD for that achievement and I let the checkpoint restart. So after doing that level on again on recruit I got the achievement

I’d say delete & reinstall, i’ve had a few achievements bug out on me & fixed by reinstalling the game.

As said in the above comments somewhere that the level only remembers the last play of it. So for example if you did it without dying once, but since then have either played it again and died or needed to go back to checkpoint then it won't count.

Also double check that you've done the 1st mission without fucking anything up or killing Shepherd.

Just to confirm, I got this the moment I should have after doing 1 playthrough for every other achievement, then restarting every individual level through chapter select and doing each without dying. I would re-start in the pause menu if I died, but after successfully finishing each level I would quit to main menu and re-start that level through level select (i.e. I would let it 'run on'). Unlocked after Endgame.

This is how I played and this is how it unlocked. First play through on veteran (Died a bunch), Then went and did all the other level achievements and what not.

Then second play through on Recruit (restarted campaign) I died on a few levels and restarted the mission whenever I did die. At the end of the campaign achievement didn't pop.

So third play through I just did mission select. I finished Acts 1 and 2 and the achievement popped. So I think what ever levels you die on you might have to re-beat via mission select. A least that worked for me. though I did died on some act 3 levels and didn't have to re-beat those to get it, so I really don't know. Seems kinda random IMO

I've read that you can do any mission in any order, but I literally started from S.S.D.D. and played all the through (in one run but it's not necessary to do so).
If you die, or cause friendly fire you CAN Pause and Restart Mission. I had to restart a couple of times, and I've literally just finished the campaign to this post time getting the achievement.
Something might be worth testing and noting down, I feel like I definitely shot Soap or Ghost with a couple of bullets by mistake, using the quick snapping to aim, and I carried on with the mission. Friendly fire will only void the achievement if it blurs out and says 'Friendly fire will not be tolerated!'. I think you can get away with a round or two by mistake, if someone else can confirm that.

No way to check unfortunately, would have been so much easier and less stressful if there was. Playing all the way through in one sitting, watching all cut scenes, and restarting from pause menu if you die, fail mission, or because of friendly fire. It's a pain but that's what I did and fortunately it unlocked. It really sucks they half ass did this achievement and had no in game tracker to keep up with to let us know wich missions are completed clean.

FOR ANYONE WHO WENT THROUGH THE GAME WITHOUT DYING AND IT WON'T POP; TRY REPLAYING THE GULAG FROM MISSION SELECT ON RECRUIT. I went through the game on veteran, died a whole lot, then went through the game on recruit. Every time I died I restarted mission from the pause menu. After completing the final mission, nothing had popped and obviously I was upset. I re-did SSDD thinking maybe I screwed it up and restarted from checkpoint but still nothing. After redoing the GULAG randomly, it popped, and I can guarantee that I didn't die or reload during that mission on my earlier playthrough. Stay frosty.

Got it yesterday. No problems. First veteran playthru without exploits. Then I collected Intel. mopped up some random achievements and started recruit playthru via mission select. Always used restart mission or save and quit. Popped up during end credits.

Didn't have any issues with this achievement. After veteran playthrough, I did the different mission specific achievements while collecting intel and not dying on those missions. Then I did the rest of the missions not dying. It popped after I completed S.S.D.D. Also, I'm pretty sure I never did a deathless run of No Russian, so that one may not have to be done, which would make sense since it's skipable. So in my experience doing them in order doesn't matter (as long as you remember the ones you've done) and anytime I would die, I would restart mission in the pause menu.

If you are like me and struggling to get this achievement to unlock even though you have completed every mission without dying. I have managed to get it unlock by doing the following:

- Reset your save game data by deleting if from your console and Xbox Live. You will know if you have deleted it correctly as you will have to rezise your screen and adjust your brightness.

- Start a new campaign on Recruit and complete each level, (not sure if it must be done in one sitting)

- If you die in a level/miss an objective/shoot at friendlies, quit out of the level using Save and Quit and restart the level using the Mission Select. Do not restart the mission from within the mission if that makes sense.

- Do not redo levels that you have already completed if you won't get to the end of them and not die. It is best to do a campaign run specifically for this achievement. Every level needs to have been completed deathless at the same time.

After you have done every level, it should unlock as the credits start.

Fingers crossed this will unlock it for you.
I have sent a bug report regarding this achievement so hopefully they patch it and my solution becomes obsolete. Good luck!

at least on my save at the time of posting this, i can confirm that you infact can replay levels which you already beat without dying, and die in them again. idk if they changed it in a patch or if it will change again or if i just got lucky

Just got this achievement yesterday, and if I died I just restarted the level from within the mission rather than wasting time backing out and going to the main menu to restart. I completed this over the course of 3 days, with completing basically each act over the course of the 3 days. Each time I started again, I just “overwrote” the mission progress by not continuing with my last save. The only extra thing I had to do was replay SSDD, but I think that’s only b/c I was trying to get the BX achievement and just quit the level without actually completing it. So, you CAN restart the mission if you die and do it in multiple play-throughs, as long as you don’t continue to where you left off before as I believe that counts as re-starting from a saved checkpoint and voids the achievement.

Just asking to see if I accidentally shoot a friendly soldier and they don't die, thats not considered a game restart? I have accidentally snipped a friendly solder on Contingency and the game stopped and said friendly fire will not be tolerated. So I completely restarted the mission. I have shot friendly solders and they haven't died and just said, check your fire. I presume this is ok and I wouldn't have to restart the mission for this?

After reading both the other Solutions for this achievement... I was still struggling to get it... I done this without deleting my save and after my Veteran Run!!

Here's my method for this achievement to unlock

- Start a new game on recruit
- Take your time with the levels and try take enemies out from a distance
- IF YOU DIE / FAIL OBJECTIVE / KILL A CIVILIAN / SHOOT A TEAM MATE
- DO NOT PAUSE > RESTART MISSION -
- Instead Pause the game and quit!! (close game completely)
- Restart the game and mission select the mission you where on!!
- If you complete the level without dying, continue on to the next mission...
- Repeat until the game is finished...

My achievement popped after the cutscene for Price shooting down the helicopter

Was struggling to get the achievement to pop even with the above guides but managed after a good hour with a few missions that may have caused the issue (See Solution Below) with a few tips which I hope helps.

Recommended difficulty

- Recruit

Tips

- Try to do it in one sitting if possible.

- Always mission select the mission you was on rather than click resume if you come back at a different time to complete the achievement.

- No Russian is not required, you can skip this mission if you wish.

- If you die or fail an objective (save and quit) to be safe, restarting mission in the pause screen does apparently work but just encase I did the save and quit as mentioned in the other guides.

- You can complete the missions in any order you wish but take note if you do so not to get confused.

Issues

I believe the main issue is that if you save and quit the game for the day and come back to carry on and click resume rather than mission select the mission you are on it starts you at a checkpoint which triggers it as a revert to checkpoint which partially voids the achievement for whichever mission you have resumed at.

As an example if you start SSDD to begin your run but save and quit, come back to the game at a different time and click resume it will count as reverted checkpoint. (You will just need to replay that mission)

I did this for two missions myself thinking it would not be an issue but after it did not unlock and a bit of guess work it unlocked after I completed "The Only Easy Day... Was Yesterday" mission.

Nice. I’ve done every mission and restated if I died. But it’s not popped. I have left it to save halfway through missions so maybe that’s why. I’ll report back when done

After playing the entire campaign 4 times and not getting the achievement, I did what you say, the problem is in resuming the game, apparently it counts as restarting the checkpoint, I had to repeat the second mission and I got the achievement, thank you very much +1

As long as the game doesn't stop / fade to black you can carry on. Restarting like you did should of corrected it but if it doesn't unlock at the end try replaying that mission and see if it pops.

I accidentally shot a friendly solider on Contingency and restarted the entire level. Completed it without failures or deaths and unlocked the achievement at the end of the game. Just as long as you restart the entire level and play clean, it should pop.

Here's what I did to get this achievement:

I did all the other 49 achievements in this game before going for this one to keep it one simple task.
I deleted my safe file from the console and the cloud.
I started a new game and after the training section I chose the Difficulty Recruit(Obviously).
If I got reset to a recent Checkpoint either by shooting Teammates, Civilians or due to Death, I pressed start and saved and quit the game. Then from the main menu hit mission select and chose the last mission you were on.
I played the Airport Russian Mission too, just in case! It only takes a few minutes, so why not.

And that's basicly it. That's all I did to get this achievement. Nothing too special or hard.

This Trophy is relatively simple and can be done in recruit.

In order to complete the requirements, you must play EVERY SINGLE MISSION without dying or reloading a check point. If you die at any point, or achieve a fail state for any mission, you must restart the mission from the very beginning. The easiest way is to press start and "RESTART MISSION".

You do not have to start a new game. You can get this by simply going to mission select and doing the mission of your choice. There is no tracker for this Trophy, so I suggest you keep track of what mission you have completed on your own.

Trophy will pop when the last mission under these constraints is completed.

Take your time and the joy the campaign on easy!

I’ve just got this trophy, couldn’t get it to pop after I was sure I’d done them all, I went back to the first mission S.S.D.D and just ran through the assault course once (instead of redoing the course to improve the time), and then the trophy popped for me as soon as I finished this mission!

Hey gang, can confirm I had the same issue of it not popping after finishing the campaign, but going through the S.S.D.D mission again worked. I just went through the course once, selected whichever difficulty as I left and then it popped a little while into the following loading screen.

I confirmed that no need to be done in one sitting.

Steps:
- My step is got all other achievements first, remain only this achievement.
- Delete save from everywhere and start new game with Difficulty Recruit.
- Play each mission, if you die, failed just go to menu "Save and Quit". Then go to "Mission Select" the select that mission again.
- If you comeback to play from other day, don't resume game. Go to Mission Select" the select that mission again to play further.
- Play until the end and I also skip "No Russian" Mission. It's fine.
- After the credit start, Achievement will pop-up.

There is a misconception about this achievement. Reading the description, you might think that you need to play every mission from start to finish without dying in mission order in the same playthrough. That is not the case. You can select a mission at any time and attempt to fulfill the requirements individually, making it less difficult than it seems.

The requirements are simple; you can't die, reload your checkpoint manually, fail an objective (which causes a checkpoint reload), kill a teammate or civilian (which causes a checkpoint reload) or restart the mission from the pause menu. Also, you cannot save and quit during a mission then resume it later; you must complete that mission in one sitting. If any of these happen, you must pause the game, select 'save and quit' then reselect the mission from mission select.

It is highly recommended that you attempt this on Recruit difficulty. There are 17 missions you must complete, and note that Mission 4, 'No Russian', and Epilogue, 'Museum' are not required.

There is no indication in the game that you have fulfilled the requirements for a mission so you will need to keep track of these manually. A suggestion is to have a list of the missions on your device or PC and cross them off as you complete them. During your first playthrough, you may be successful in completing the requirements for a few missions here and there, so note which ones they are so when you need to replay missions you can bypass them.

Here are some tips to help you survive:

Stay away from explosive objects (cars, barrels, grenades, etc.). If you see a barrel or enemy claymore, shoot it at a safe distance so it explodes with minimal to no injury. If you see a grenade indicator, throw it back if you can or else just run away. Note that teammate grenades are just as dangerous as enemy ones.
Listen to the instructions or orders from your commanding officer, especially in stealth missions.
Use cover as much as possible. Even though you should be playing on Recruit, don't think you are invincible. Take it slow when necessary and allow your teammates to do most of the work if possible. It might take longer to complete the mission, but it's safer.
Watch your back and beware of close quarters combat. Check those corners.
Watch out for dogs. If they jump on you, while snapping their neck doesn't void the achievement, they can injure you quite a bit, so if you're already injured, there is the possibility that they'll kill you.
