How to unlock the Deep and Hard achievement in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered - Definitive Guide
If you use the last checkpoint glitch, this is super easy, with the one notable exception of "One Shot One Kill," where you are totally unprotected while retrieving McMillan and getting to the choppaahhh.
Last checkpoints are as follows (credit to InSpiritOfBash on playstationtrophies.org):
[Crew Expendable- after the explosion and your teammate helps you up and you start sprinting to exit the ship.
Blackout- after the power is cut and you enter the house to retrieve the objective.
Charlie Don't Surf- just after the big room gun fight with all the tvs and you head up to the roof to breach the last door for the last 5 tvs.
The Bog- after blowing up the AA gunner.
The Hunted- just after shooting down the chopper with the javelin.
Deaths From Above- you hear the commander suggest using 25 mm just before noting friendly choppers are in the area.
War Pig- just after a gun fight and a briefing you drop down to the tank and head towards an LZ
Shock And Awe- after rescuing the down choppers pilot and placing them on the chopper.
Safe House- after Price throw the flash bang in the door and closes it.
All Ghillied Up- when you encounter the dog on the leash.
One Shot One Kill- after placing Macmillan in his final sniping spot by the Farris wheel.
Heat- after dropping down to the gas station and boarding the LZ chopper.
Sins Of The Father- before the last set of stairs before going to the roof. If you reach the roof top stop and perform the glitch here.
Ultimatum- after you fend off the two trucks and go and pass through the gates and the sirens start sounding.
All In- after blowing up the final tank before your team starts cutting open the vents.
No Fighting In The War Room- after you get off the elevator.
Game Over- when your lying on the ground there will be two before Price slides you a pistol. When the chopper blows up and when he slides you the pistol. These are both usable.

EDIT: This also works for Mile High Club. The last checkpoint is just after your boy opens the door to go skydiving. Doing this glitch at this moment will take you back to the slow-mo sequence where you shoot the hostage taker.
As far as how to do the last checkpoint glitch, it goes like this:
1) Play mission on Recruit, all the way to the last checkpoint
2) Once the game says "Checkpoint Reached" in the top left of the screen, save and quit.
3) Make sure you get all the way back to the title screen
4) Go to "Mission Select," and pick the mission you're on
5) The game will tell you its overwriting your progress. It won't if this is done properly, so click yes
6) Get ready to press the Xbox Guide button, and select "Veteran" difficulty
7) As soon as the mission starts loading press the Xbox Guide button, hover over the game, and quit the application before the level loads. This is indicated by the little green bar on the game screen on the lower right side
8) Boot the game back up
9) Select "Resume Campaign," do not go to Mission Select. The game will say "you want to continue the mission _______ from most recent checkpoint?" Select yes.
10) Check. The glitch was successful if you get an option to "Lower Difficulty" to Hardened, and you're at the last checkpoint.
11) Profit
Note: people playing on Xbox Series X/S may have trouble dashboarding before the mission loads. Next gen problems I guess ☹
As for "One Shot, One Kill"s last checkpoint, the easiest way to complete the Ferris Wheel bit is to act as if you're playing on Veteran. There is a glitch spot that can stop enemies from being able to spawn in a certain point, as well as shoot at you/get line of sight to you.
This glitch spot is on the right hand side by the apartment building, if you're facing the direction Cpt McMillan is, towards the pool. You just have to stand in a corner against a wall opposite the apartment building (directly across from the door where the second Intel is on this mission).
As far as getting Mac to the helicopter for the final objective, you can make it much easier on yourself in two ways.
First, place all claymores and C4 before setting Mac down in his designated spot (dont stray too far from him or the game will start from previous checkpoint). This means that when Cpt Mac says "take the rest of my claymores," you get a second full inventory of explosives.
Second, place all claymores and C4 in the vicinity of where the chopper door opens, making sure that they won't blow each other up by mistake. When you exit your glitch spot, you are no longer untouchable, and we all know how useful our comrades are on Veteran.
When prompted by the pilot to get on board, detonate all of your C4, and spam grenades towards the left side, as you're facing the chopper from the glitch spot. Once that is done, spam flashbangs, and run like hell, from cover to cover until you reach McMillan. Move cover to cover again, using anything you can, including your rescue team, to block incoming rounds, as you need to move quickly and obviously cannot shoot back. Once Mac is successfully on the helo, you're pretty much invincible.
Hope this helps, I didn't feel like doing the CoD4 Campaign on Veteran legitimately for a second time because it is eye-gougingly hard at some points, so I just didn't. I even did Mile High Club on Veteran legit the first time. Not again.
Happy hunting, friends.
Playing on Veteran difficulty isn't too hard, but there is a glitch that you can use to complete each mission on Veteran difficulty whilst playing the vast majority of the time on recruit.
The way the glitch works, is you play the mission on recruit difficulty until you get to the final checkpoint of the level. Return to the main start screen, go to Mission Select, choose the mission you have just been playing and select Veteran difficulty. As soon as the mission begins to load, quit to your console dashboard and close the game completely. Restart the game, and go choose Resume Game, and your progress will be saved at the last checkpoint, but you will now be on Veteran difficulty.
You can see a video of the glitch working below (credit to It's Ya Boy on YouTube).
You can find a list of the last checkpoint for each level below:
For details on how to use a glitch to make your entire Veteran playthrough easier see the Mile High Club trophy. If you want to earn the Veteran trophies legitimately I've included some tips here that apply to most areas in the game but I will also include some more mission specific advice under each mission's trophy to help with the more difficult sections.
General tips for Veteran:
- You don’t have much health at all so when you take any damage whatsoever get back into cover and wait for it to fully regenerate (i.e. all red blotches to disappear from your screen.)
- Some areas have infinitely spawning enemies if you don't push up (or at least enemies that keep spawning for a long time). So don’t always just hang back sniping. Try and move forward any way you can even if it means making a run for it and hiding or trying to trigger the next checkpoint.
- Try and learn the spawn mechanics of the levels though, because clearing out enemies from a distance is easier if there is only a finite number of them. Even if the enemies do keep coming there may be a break between waves allowing you to push up after taking out a group of them.
- When you see an enemy chopper come in to drop off reinforcements aim at the ropes hanging from it and shoot as many enemies you can as they rappel down. Each one will only require a single bullet because that will cause them to fall and the fall will kill them. This will thin out the number of troops you have to face on the ground.
- Unlike most games your teammates are actually helpful so use them. Pushing forward slightly will usually get them to move up with you and take out some enemies while you just hide in cover.
- Use cover and stay right next to some when in combat so as soon as you take a hit you can duck back to safety in the blink of an eye.
- Check your corners. Nothing is worse than taking out a large group of enemies then getting popped in the back by someone you missed as you push up and having to redo the whole section. Make sure you get them all and move up cautiously from cover to cover even when things seem quiet.
- Be wary of injured crawling enemies that you may not notice but can mess you up pretty quick with their pistol.
- Don’t forget to check the rooftops. If you’re dying a lot out of the blue it could be an RPG or sniper killing you from on top of one of the buildings.
- When you get killed take note of who it was that killed you and why. Then next time be aware of them. That way the more times you fail the more familiar you’ll be with the enemy locations and the easier it’ll get.
- Remember you can fire through most thin walls and bits of cover so if you see someone hiding don’t wait for them to pop their head out, just hammer the cover they’re hidden behind. Don’t assume they're dead until you see their body though.
- Don’t forget your explosives etc that are displayed in the bottom left of the screen and are equipped via the d-pad. Familiarise yourself with what items are available to you at the start of each mission and don’t forget to use them, they can really help.
- If all else fails make a run for it! You’d be surprised how often it works. There are usually bits of cover dotted all over so if you just sprint for the next checkpoint making it harder for enemies to hit you you can always duck behind cover on the way if you need to regenerate your health before continuing on.

I would like to warn you right away that the opponents will respawn endlessly if there are no fewer of them lying at one point, and there is no point in turning on Rimbaud, they will kill you in a second... You can only hope for luck and a low rebirth of the opponents. The most important and most nerve-racking moment is carrying McMillan to the helicopter, because you need to lie down and shoot for 4 minutes, and then die in 5 seconds!!!
Strategy: (Standard weapons, no need to pick anything else)
1) As soon as you go down from the destroyed “Pool”, two opponents will come at you, kill them;
2) We leave McMillan and begin to install a mini “CLAYMORE” from him, the enemy will come out from around the corner of the pool and from the side, from the yard, one might say, and run straight to the Wheel, we place mines exactly up to the fence, if you go further, then you they will say: "You left MacMillan - the game is over";
3) If the mines are successfully placed, take Mack and carry it to the first car behind the fence, throw it in and start laying 6 C4 Explosives, placing it where the helicopters will fly and the enemies are located, that is, these are 3 points, the left edge, the middle and the right edge, if you look exactly straight at the pool, approximately throw it near the stone barriers and also near the booths selling tickets, whatever your heart desires;
4) After laying the C4, take Mack and carry it to the yellow point, you are given another 10 mines of Claymore and 6 pieces of C4, have time to place the Claymore on the sides of the defense, since it is better to survive the first part near the wheel, and throw a couple of C4, you'll find out why later!
Start of defense:
So the first opponents ran around the corner, happily blowing themselves up on the initially installed mines, about Forget "C4" for a while, the main task of the first wave is to shoot down as many enemies as possible and survive to the "control point"
We catch the control point and run behind the “electric cars” attraction, lie down behind the lower left corner, so that the forest is visible and you can easily hide from the grenade, the trick is that you don’t have to run far and opponents will periodically run at you, like Only with the AK-47 we killed 2-3, immediately reload and wait for more. Kolda has such a trick, if it’s difficult to aim at the enemy, then quickly press L2, then P2 and fast auto-targeting turns on, it helps in critical situations
Finally, our Orlans arrived, they give you a few seconds to dive, and if you lie there for a long time, the mission will be failed, they won’t shoot everyone, since the opponents are endless. Therefore, after making sure you are safe and shooting a couple of opponents on the way, if there are any, run and turn the cross down , so C4 came in handy, which will greatly facilitate the way back to the helicopter, take MacMillan and hope for LUCK!!! You should try to walk closer to the booth or depending on the situation, you will have to make a small circle near the helicopter to get around the fighters from the helicopter who will interfere with your passage...
Personally, I was thoroughly bombarded with grenades in the booth, which was simply impossible to escape, I tried to watch numerous videos with such a strategy and nothing came of it, so draw your own conclusions/
