How to unlock the Man versus Machine achievement in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered - Definitive Guide

Mission: All Ghillied Up

This opportunity will come early on in the mission as you enter the church hideout. As you go inside, notice the FIM-92 Stinger to the left and pick it up. Continue through the building until Cpt. MacMillan warns you of an incoming helicopter. Once it arrives, use the Stinger to lock-on and shoot the helicopter twice; bringing it down and unlock this.

Positive vote from me. If you get attacked by dogs kill the 5 guards and 3 dogs in the house before the church.

I hit it twice and it went down but the achievement didn't pop for me. I went thru it 2nd time just to make sure. Still didn't pop!angry

As of 5/17/2020, i found this method is the best and works rather than trying to down the helo from the front of the church. There are dogs and enemies that come in front after the 1st shot so following this guide from the back of the church helps. I died the 1st attempt as the help shot me down so be careful when you go back on the 2nd shot in back. You may have to wait a second or two to go out the back door, but once you do can you hold up the stinger and get a lock, fire and you'll get the 2nd hit. Dogs will come from the church. Just hit B button to kill the dogs if you wanna do that. I did it on Recruit. Thank you Tom.

As of 5/14/2023, To add to my post on May 2020 above, I was curious if I took out the 3-5 enemies and 3 dogs at the first house if this would help with the Helo achievement. It does. If you take out the ememies and the dogs at the first house and the 3 enemies at the church, then you can get one hit on the helo in front of the church, with out spawning enemies when you go to take the 2nd shot at the helo. I took mine again from the back of the church. I presume you could take the 2nd shot in front now as well. Once the helo was down, no enemies or dogs came for me. All clear. So if you want to be not bothered by any enemies or dogs, take then ALL out before entering the chruch.

This is completed in the thirteenth mission "All Ghillied Up". Early on you will enter a church with some stingers in it. Pick up a stinger and progress to the other side of the church, this will trigger the helicopter to fly in. Instead of hiding, take a shot at it. Your first shot will not kill it, but should alert it. Head back into the church and get another stinger, your second shot should kill the helicopter. This video was recorded on recruit difficulty, as the difficulty level does not affect the achievement / trophy.

Here is a YouTube guide that I made.

When you get to the church there will be a stash of Stinger anti-air missiles in the church and its tower. You will use these to shoot down the helicopter

Note that it can destroy the church roof and tower along with using flares to evade missiles.

The helicopter will be alerted once you fire the Stinger at it.

Luck for sure...every time I do it like that there are enemies and dogs out front after the 1st shot is fired. I believe the 1st shot in the church tower would be good but take the 2nd shot from out back of the church to give more time before the dogs and enemies show up.

Mission: All Ghillied Up

When you get to the church near the start of the mission, pick up a Stinger from the ground floor and head out the back to spawn a chopper which will fly over the church toward you. Have your Stinger aimed and ready and fire as soon as you’re locked on. Then run straight back into the church and grab another launcher but run out the front door this time. Be quick about it because the helicopter will begin levelling the church if you’re in it. Get ready to attain a lock on the chopper as soon as you see it again and the second missile will destroy it. If you're going for Ghillies in the Mist remember to reload the checkpoint after earning the trophy and go through this section again without alerting the chopper.

Near the start of the mission, after you get told about the guard in the tower (then snipe him) you enter the same building he was guarding. Right as you walk in, there will be a crate with stinger missiles. Pick it up, continue forward and out the door to your left. Run forward, and turn back round to face the building you just left, and aim your stinger, the chopper will arrive, let the stinger lock on and then fire. The chopper will pop flares so you will miss the first shot. Run straight back into the building, grab another stinger then head out the door you originally came through to enter the building. Again, aim your stinger near the roof so you can lock on faster when the chopper reappears, lock on and shoot. BOOM! Job done.

On the level (All Ghillied Up) when you get inside the church, grab the stinger and use that to destroy the helicopter for the trophy. Put this on Recruit if it's too difficult.

We shoot at the helicopter flying over the church and then shoot it down with stingers that lie inside the church.

The easiest way to do this is: Go to the church, quickly climb the tower and take the Stinger, fire one shot at the helicopter and quickly get down, because... The helicopter will destroy the tower and fire a second shot from the ground. It took me 3-4 attempts, because the most difficult thing is to get down from the tower along these damn stairs and not get killed.
