How to unlock the Behind You achievement in Call of Duty: Vanguard - Definitive Guide
To get this achievement I would recommend doing this on Recruit difficulty. Reverting to last checkpoint does not void this either. Also you have to eliminate all the enemies with a Takedown. A Takedown is a special melee attack that prompts you to press when near an enemy. Using regular melee attacks will not count. Takedowns are easier to do in stealth as 99% of the time the prompt will appear. When things go loud it's a bit hit or miss if the prompt appears or not. I would also recommend wearing a headset and changing the Audio Mix to Headphones.
This takes place after you emerge from the destroyed rubble. On your left you will see an enemy crouch walk behind to use the takedown. After this move forward and two enemies will wonder into the area in front of you. Wait for the enemies to walk past and use a takedown on both of them. Keep going forward in the small building until you see a Mannequin sat on a small ledge next to a pillar. There will be an enemy walking towards you, hide behind the pillar and wait for him to go past, then use the takedown.
After this I would recommend going prone next to the counter in the middle and try and study the enemy movements as they are sporadic. One thing I noticed though is that if you eliminate an enemy in the open another solider will walk towards their body. I found that this helped a lot in the open snow section.
After climbing up a level you will go through a small crack in the wall. Around here you will get a checkpoint, there will be an enemy directly in front of you, this is a good area to farms kills for the Pop Goes The Nightingale achievement. Then I would recommend sticking to the right side of the room and eliminating the guard who's by the door. Turn left and there will be a guard who's facing away from you. By this point the last guard will be by the bookshelves on the right side.
After going up another level you will be ambushed by an enemy where he'll throw you through the floor. After this you will get a checkpoint, and will need to use a takedown on the sniper. You will need to do 2 takedowns on the sniper. After this you will go up against groups of 3-4 enemies at a time. Best advice for this section is that if they spot you, just restart checkpoint as the enemy movement is sporadic.
A little while later you will encounter some machinegun enemies, I think by this point they will automatically detect you, just keep running towards them and looking for the to do a takedown.
I tried looking for a weapon with a bayonet to see if that made takedowns easier, I couldn't find one though. Also I didn't really find any use for the distraction ability in this section.

This was an absolute nightmare. I had the sniper and the 2 heavies left, but the prompt to takedown the heavy only appears for a split second at a time. In the end they both run after you and hiding isn’t an option anymore (while also getting quickscoped by the sniper). I restarted from last checkpoint well over 100 times. I would takedown a heavy and then the game would bug out and melee the second one, making me need to restart again. 2 hours later and the achievement finally unlocked. Thanks for the guide though, especially in the beginning with the 6 guys in the snow that are very close together.

This is by far the most annoying achievement in the campaign.
Once you get to the section where you're automatically detected (you'll know because smoke will appear), it is up in the air whether or not you will be able to takedown an enemy when you run up to them. Nothing is more frustrating than running up to an enemy, not getting the prompt, then being beat to death and slowed down so you can't run away.
My tips:
1. On the top floor, there are smoke grenades in two boxes. Use these all the time as they're unlimited. If you throw them directly on an enemy, they will start coughing and this seemed to guarantee a takedown.
2. Don't restart a checkpoint if you're spotted. Just hide away for 10-15sec and you'll hear the music go from frantic and then back to calm. This lets you know the enemies have forgotten about you and you can go back out for stealth takedowns.
3. Make sure enemies don't kill each other because their own grenades will void the achievement. I had an enemy shotgun another and this may have voided the achievement. And make sure if you get a hit marker with a smoke grenade or even a melee that hits but doesn't kill, just reload the checkpoint. I had to do this mission all over again to unlock and its a pain to get back to the department store.
4. As far as takedowns, if you hide around a corner in a room you know the enemies are chasing you, you will most likely get the prompt when they run into the room. Also, if they're ducking in cover and you run up to them you'll likely get the prompt.
Also, I would note exactly WHEN you got the achievement so people know if they need to restart or not. You get it after the section you're seemingly always detected and kill the last sniper. "Objective Complete" for killing Steiner's soldiers will appear at the top. If the achievement doesn't IMMEDIATLEY pop then you'll have to restart the mission.
Note: As soon as you enter the department store and kill the 4 enemies that come in to your side on the left, don't go up before killing the 6 or so enemies out in the open snow. I skipped this on one attempt and I believe this also voids the achievement.
Good luck out there, this will likely take a few mind-numbing attempts. I'm just glad I can finally shoot a gun again.

I found the best way to cheese this achievement by basically goading the enemies into letting me Takedown them.
I "unlocked" this achievement twice and did not get credit. The trick that got it to work the third time around was to not damage the enemies in any way - if you get any hitmarkers, revert to last checkpoint. No smoke hitmarkers, no melee hitmarkers. If an enemy throws a grenade, there is the potential for another enemy to die by that grenade. Even if you can monitor the situation to make sure nobody dies, you should just immediately revert since you really don't want to risk the possibility that someone you never saw, dies.
The way to goad your enemies into letting you take them down is simple, and works like a charm for the final wave of enemies, including the LMG idiot who supernaturally knows your position. To minimize the risk of not damaging enemies, I would only smoke when I was stunned by a melee. You actually want as many enemies as possible fighting you. I know that sounds funny, but basically: you want them running at you.
Enabling a takedown in-combat basically requires you to goad an enemy into chasing you. It requires an enemy who is not "actively fighting" per se, rather someone who is "in transition". If this were CoD Competitive, this would be known as "finessing" the enemies - dipping, ducking, dodging, and diving to get your enemies to pursue you. As long as you catch your enemy chasing you (i.e. closing in on your position), if you pop out from around the corner sprinting at them, they can usually be taken down very reliably .
This can be done by abusing something as simple as a pillar, where the enemy is within arm's length on the other side of it, or a counter, where the enemy is on the other side (where you can reach out and tap them), and any Line of Sight (LoS) break. Any simple movement that requires the enemy to move to get to you appears to work, and I tested this many times. It's simple: Take down as many in stealth as you can, then when you inevitably are found, don't panic. Run at the enemy, get close, let them know you're there, and let them chase you somewhere. Run around the corner, then turn around and run back out to catch them chasing you (right before they're about to round the corner). If they're on the other side of the counter, mantle it, then mantle back, then mantle again. Keep mantling things, those are great for forcing the enemy to stance-change and make themselves vulnerable. Just toy with them and make them run around.
Now the tricky part is making sure you're actually going to take them down rather than melee them. What I did was I got close enough for the takedown prompt to appear, then backed up a tiny bit so I was out of melee range , then I initiated the Takedown so it would lunge. You basically want to get out of that arm's length where you can gun-butt them, but remain within the Takedown distance to lunge at them, eliminating the risk of an accidental gun-butt, which would force you to restart. The funny thing about taking down on enemy is that it puts other nearby enemies into a takedown-able state, since you become invincible while taking down an enemy. This seems to somehow "reset" the eligibility of the takedown and let everyone nearby be taken down, so you can just chain a bunch of takedowns and run through your enemies.
This does NOT work on the super-armor sniper guys . I wouldn't recommend following the trick where the other poster said to damage them with your gun to knock their helmet off, just follow the standard double-takedown on them. Remember: No damage, no hitmarkers, takedown only.

I've done this 3 times now with no unlock. I don't get any hit markers on anyone. I don't swap, aim, or fire my weapon. I don't throw anything and I don't use the knife ability to draw attention. I always clear every enemy on the previous floors.
By Voadis on 22 Nov 2021 03:32
Thank you for this solution. The last 3 soliders went completely ballistic and chased me around as a group, making it quite cumbersome to sneak and stab any of them. This worked fine and that probably saved me from starting all over again.

Mentioning additionally to the guides here:
You have to clear the ground floor (the one you emerge from the underground) before going up to the next level of the department store. I missed to take down all of them in my first two runs for this achievement n failed to get it.
I can confirm that you have to take out EVERYONE by takedown to get this pain in the xxx achievement.

This just popped for me on veteran so I'd like to dispell a few myths that are floating around in the guides/comments.
Things I did during the unlock:
- melee'd guards then came back and used takedowns
- threw smoke
- hit a guard in the face with a smoke grenade
Given the difficulty a lot of people are having it's quite possible this achievement is glitchy, so I want to reassure you if it's not unlocking, it's probably not something you're doing wrong. No need to make it harder on yourself by not meleeing or using smoke.
Definitely take out the people on the ground floor first before moving onwards. Once on the higher levels you will probably be spotted. There are numerous vents around the edges that are great to hide/heal in.
If you manage to pull off something tricky (like taking down the lmg guards for example) go for a run around the level (use the vents or change floors) to try and trigger a checkpoint and lock in your progress.
Definitely a frustrating achievement but totally doable. Don't overthink it, and if you're having trouble, come back later on recruit difficulty and try again.

I had problems with takedowns because it's rng between takedown and melee when enemies have found you. If you have takedown indicator on your screen it still might do normal melee. After few tries i found this video:
Running front of enemy and using on d-pad (whistle to get snipers attention) distracts enemy and gives you option to takedown. This doesn't work on Jägermörder or general with pistol, but i noticed that if you come out from crawling space or behind corner it gives you most of the time option to takedown so use that on them. Also enemy with shotgun is the sniper so don't try to take him down because you can't kill him. Just run away until he goes back to his sniping position.
First floor you don't have this ability. Left side enemies are easy to takedown, but to kill mid and rightside enemies you need to push them, because they don't come to left side. After they spot you, you can try to hide and get them back to seek mode. After you manage to do this enemies will come to left side.
If you can't get them to seek mode you can use this method which i mentioned earlier

Mission 6: Lady Nightingale
There's always an annoying and frustrating trophy on CoD games, well it is most definitely this one. It's not very difficult but it's really frustrating. Definitely attempt this on Recruit as it is impossible on Veteran.
So after the section where you carry Misha, you'll end up inside a building which is the department store. From now on, you need to kill every enemies with takedowns only. Press when prompted, to perform a takedown on an enemy. It's very important to wait for the prompt to appear, otherwise you'll just punch the enemy and it won't count.
In the first section, there are 6 enemies to kill before climbing up. They're pretty easy to get rid of, they won't see you unless you get really close to them so wait until they're alone and get rid of them one by one. If you get spotted it's easier to just reload the checkpoint and retry.
In the second section, there will be 4 enemies. One in front of you when you enter, one on the right, one on the left and the next one at the end of this section. Again, pretty easy.
You can miss these enemies so make sure you kill them all before moving on. After that you don't have to worry as it'll be mandatory to kill them all.
After that, you'll reach the top floor and you'll have to kill the sniper. You'll get spotted here but don't worry, just go on either side and sneak your way behind him to perform a takedown. As you need 2 takedowns to kill snipers, do the same when he moves on the other side of the area.
After killing the sniper, there will be a first group of 12 enemies but it's very difficult to explain a good strategy as they are random and will go wherever they want through the area. Just stay hidden and wait until you see one of them alone and kill them with takedowns, one by one. Just take your time and play it safe, if you get spotted reload checkpoint. After killing these enemies (or before, if they find out something looks wrong, it's a bit random here) more enemies will spawn. The same strategy here to take them one by one.
Now the fun begins. After killing a certain number of enemies, you will get spotted. No matter what you do, combat will be triggered and you can't do anything about it. A sniper will also spawn as well as an MG enemy.
The thing here is to stay very close to enemies and wait until they run to take cover. You will have a few seconds to perform takedowns but make sure to not miss as sometimes it'll just punch them. If it happens, just reload checkpoint. Again, take them one by one, this is a bit of a mess as they will contantly shoot at you and you'll need to retreat and get back to crawlspaces etc. Keep doing that and eventually you'll get them all, then take care of the sniper and the trophy should pop.
Here is a video by PowerPyx, as I couldn't record a decent one when attempting the trophy and will never get back to trying it again:

Mission 6: Lady Nightingale
Forewarning: this achievement is an absolute nightmare, and will likely take you upwards of an hour or two depending on how (un)lucky you get.
The second half of this mission, after getting Misha to safety, has you crawling through debris and into the ground floor of a department store. From here until the objective to eliminate all of Steiner's troops is completed, you must kill every enemy with a takedown. This achievement seems to be either buggy or at least has some very strict criteria that are not explicit. Here is what I know from experience and research:
The final and absolutely most frustrating thing about this achievement is that the game can/will decide to give you a checkpoint at literally the worst possible time. In my successful run, FOUR TIMES I was given a checkpoint immediately after being detected, forcing me to manage and improvise with this terrible checkpoint. Always keep smoke grenades on hand to deal with these inevitable situations where you get screwed by the horrible checkpoints. The smoke grenades will cause any enemy, if they run into the smoke and don't see you) to get stunned, allowing you to either escape, or to do a takedown on them. Be prepared to improve with smoke grenades and do takedowns in the smoke if you get terrible checkpoints as well. There is an unlimited supply of smoke grenades in a crate on the lower floor, in the back room right where you landed when you started this section. Try to stay full on smokes, just in case.

From here until the objective to eliminate all of Steiner's troops is completed, you must kill every enemy with a takedown. This achievement seems to be either buggy or at least has some very strict criteria that are not explicit. Here is what I know from experience and research:
- It is fine if you get detected. That does not void the achievement. If you can hide and eliminate the active fighting, you can resume takedowns and still get this achievement.
- It seems that hurting an enemy by any means, even if you don't kill them, voids the achievement. For me, I accidentally meleed an enemy, and even though it didn't kill them and I still killed the enemy later with a takedown, it still voided the achievement.
- It seems that enemies can inadvertantly shoot and kill other enemies while trying to kill you, if you're detected. As a result, ALWAYS reload if you are detected, just to be safe. There are a ton of enemies to kill, and it'll be disheartening to start from the previous checkpoint, but it's better than having to redo the entire mission.
- It is NOT mandatory for the Jagermorders to detect you and get into a gunfight with you, despite popular belief. More on that below.
- The first section is on the ground floor. There are a total of 10 enemies you need to take out, and it's best to do it stealthily because it's a small area and therefore extremely unlikely you'll be able to retreat and hide. I specifically mention the number of enemies because in this section it's possible to climb up to the next floor without having killed every enemy, and that voids the achievement. Keep track and make sure you kill all 10 before climbing up to the next floor.
- On the next floor, you'll squeeze between an opening and into another room. This room has four enemies to kill. Again, make sure to kill all four and don't bypass any or you'll void the achievement. Reload if you get detected.
- After that, you'll walk around a ledge and get thrown down by a Jagermorder. This third section is very long and has easily 20-30 enemies to kill, and is the toughest part. Right off the bat, a sniper will be opposite you. Sprint to the right, crouch, and sneak behind the sniper. You'll see that you need to do two takedowns on the Jagermorder snipers to kill them. Thankfully, it doesn't matter if they shoot you with their sniper rifles. So after the first takedown and smoke grenade, simply stand towards the open middle of the area, and look for the muzzle flash and bullet that comes for you to see where the sniper is hiding next. Once again sneak around behind him and takedown kill him.
- After that, enemies will start spawning all over the place, in groups of four typically, but they don't wait for one group to be killed before the next spawns. On top of that, while they're spawning, another Jagermorder or two will spawn as well. You'll need to kill the Jagermorders/snipers and all enemies. Once the last is dead, the objective will complete, and if you used all takedowns you'll unlock this achievement.

A very dreary trophy, considering that the game does not have any tools for stealth, it should be done naturally, on an easy difficulty level, preferably clearly on video. Watch out for saving on CT, if the Germans get alarmed and attack openly, the trophy may not be given when restarting from CT.

The trophy should only be knocked out with a quick attack (finishing blow) on
But don’t rush, every enemy can only be attacked with a quick attack, and Polina sometimes hits with her butt, be careful, if you hit at least once you won’t get this trophy
This happened 14 times and the trophy did not fall out.

Perhaps it has already been corrected. But now I calmly got it by reloading the CT when I accidentally hit him with the butt.

Watch out for grenades, they explode on their own as well (on low difficulty).
Also, be careful where you throw the smoke ones, 2 Krauts were killed when they hit my leg with a ricochet. The slightest doubt - restart the CT scan.
