How to unlock the Gasoline Cowboy achievement in Call of Duty: WWII - Definitive Guide

Gasoline Cowboy Achievement/Trophy Guide

In Mission 6 'Collateral Damage' you will be given control over a tank which will need to reach your forces with 80% of its armor left. Due to the game not giving you an exact percentage, you have to try figure it out for yourself if you take to much damage, however the easiest way to do this is to hang back as much as possible.

When you first start off you will be facing many rocket launcher enemies which you can easily take out by having your other tank buddy being the decoy while you take cover behind buildings or out of reach. Take it nice and slow until you reach a fight with a tank and you will need to take a left then flank it from behind as doing damage from the side and back is the only way to destroy it.

You will now climb the hill and face two more tanks and as with before, sneak around and bait them if need be until they are destroyed. Once you've done that you can head over the hill but wait a moment first as you'll be hammered with Rockets if you go to fast. Head down to the end of the street and camp behind the building on the left as you take out all that you see. If you take to much damage you can simply restart the checkpoint.

Thought it would be worth mentioning that if you press the select button (or back button) it will show you the position of the tanks

It's worth mentioning twice.
Hit the back button or the select button so you can see the location of the tanks. It's a nice advantage.

What a piece of cancer. Absolutely terrible controls and tank handling. Anyone who played World of Tanks a lot will see what a joke this part is.

I'd rather play the AA gun "Defender" or Plane "Flyboy" achievements any day over this.

Great video, helped me get it easy. You should add in what the first two comments said about pressing back twice, would've loved to have known that before as I played the longest game of cat and mouse with no idea where they were. But nevertheless +1

Quite tilting that in a guide based on how much health you need to have left, you crop out the health bar in your video. good guide nonetheless

After you clear the area in front of the courthouse where the infantry are being attacked by Germans, you have to take out all the German's with Panzershrek's on the far side...

A 30. caliber MG on a tank doesn't hurt enemy Tigers but regular footsoldiers rip your Sherman to pieces with their Grease Guns? Most realistic WW2 game my ass.

Mission 6:Collateral Damage
Difficulty: Recruit Recommended
Near the very beginning of the mission, you'll take control of a tank unit in order to meet your squad at the town square.

The goal is complete section with at least 80% of your armor which is displayed in the bottom left corner of the screen. There is no way to get an exact amount, but use the bar to make an approximation.

You'll want to use both the turret and the rocket function, and make sure to progress slowly through the level, taking out enemies from a distance before going forward. When encountering the other tanks, it's very important to flee and loose sight of them in order to approach them from behind. You can only damage them from the back or side, and they won't be able to return fire if you attack from behind.

If at any point you take significant damage, immediately pause the game and choose Last Checkpoint.

Shortly after the start in the mission Collateral Damage you will drive the tank. During this very long section the armor of your tank must stay above 80% (Yellow bar in the left corner). Unfortunately it does not show how many percent you have remaining so you have to guess. If you get too many damage reload the last checkpoint and try a section again.

At the very start of mission 6 you will be driving a tank. It's a relatively lengthy section that lasts for about 10 minutes. I recommend playing this on the easiest difficulty. Take your time moving through the streets and hang back if necessary. Your tanks health does not show as a percentage, so you need to gauge your health. If you get damaged too badly, restart the checkpoint.

You will be attempting this trophy at the beginning of this mission. Your tank will be vulnerable to taking damage from both enemies shooting from the buildings as well as hostile tanks which you'll encounter later on. Your tank's health bar doesn't indicate any percentage, therefore you'll have to account for losing no more than 1/5th of the bar (via approximate measurement) as this would essentially be 20% health lost.

The tank area is the hardest section of this trophy, therefore you'll want to reach this area having lost as little health as possible from the standard enemies stationed in the buildings. When en route to your objective, shoot at the buildings as soon as you spot enemies as the RPG's will cost you a fair amount of health if hit. If you've taken too much damage, you can pause and restart from your last checkpoint. Having to restart is no bad thing either, as the enemies that are stationed in the buildings are always in the exact same place, therefore remembering their positions and where to shoot next time will mean you can eliminate them all before they can inflict any damage.

After advancing through the streets, you'll come into a more open area where tanks will emerge. This is the hardest section, as you'll need to drive wide around the area using the ruined buildings as cover to try and flank the tanks and shoot them from behind or in the side. This is where they're vulnerable and will be immobilised within 1-2 hits. You’ll want to regularly press so that the enemy marker appears above the tanks so that you’re able to constantly keep track of their position especially when they're out of sight. As with the previous step, you can restart from your last checkpoint if you get attacked by the tank as you'll take significant damage if struck.

When the first tank is immobilised, you'll progress and head towards an incline. You won't be going over this just yet however, as two more tanks will spawn at this point. Drive backwards into the ruins, taking shots at the tanks as you retreat back. The tanks will turn off at different paths, so you need to be careful to not drive directly into the path of one whilst trying to flank the other. The area is somewhat like a 3v3 square grid so the way in which the tanks navigate around is fairly easy to read, especially since they aren't the fastest of vehicles. Again, constantly press so that you're aware of both of their positions at all times. As mentioned before, restart from your last checkpoint if you get hit by either tank.

Once you've disposed of the two tanks you can head back up the incline. As soon as you're on level ground shoot straight ahead as enemies with RPG's will be standing directly ahead of you. Head up the street clearing more enemies, then you'll be at the square which you'll need to clear. You do not need to drive into the square, you can keep dropping back to where you came from to take cover and shoot at the vehicles from a distance. After you've cleared the square the trophy will pop.

At the very beginning of the 6th mission you will control a tank. This is a relatively long part of the mission, lasting about 10 minutes. While you are driving a tank, opponents with rocket launchers and enemy tanks will shoot at you.

You must keep your tank's armor level above 80% to earn the trophy at the end of this part of the chapter. The armor level indicator is located in the lower left corner. IT does not show how much % you have left. Try not to take damage at all in the beginning. Try to keep a greater distance and shoot at buildings to destroy enemies.

It will only get more difficult. In one of these moments there will be two tanks driving around the map. You will need to hide behind buildings so that they lose sight of you, and then approach them from behind. Two shots from the rear (or one from the rear and one from the side) are enough to destroy an enemy tank. Just don't shoot them from the front, as they can easily shoot back and hit you.

I completed everything on veteran difficulty. , but I got this trophy by restarting from the checkpoint, as I was hit about 30-40 times .
I still got it at the veteran level. If you want to get it in fewer restarts, run the "beginner" difficulty.

You need to be very careful, stay away from your opponents and try not to lose your health level at the very beginning, hold out as long as possible. Here's a good video: https://youtu.be/gw2yHUd3PK8

At the beginning of the battle, we drive away from the 1st tank, shoot from afar, in principle, by the beginning of the tank battle you have every chance of getting out without damage. The first panzer does not pose a problem, without being distracted by a dying ally, we still won’t help him, we immediately steer to the left, stand behind the house and use the sensor to carefully look where the panzer went, go around him in the back, shoot once and while he turns around we finish off him in the side . But then there will be 2a tanks at once. Of the two tanks, we destroy the regular panzer first. We quickly drive away from them, it’s better to go back and to the right behind the destroyed houses, usually the tiger goes to the right and down the street, at this time, before he reaches the corner, we destroy the panzer, one shell in the side and a shell in the stern (it shouldn’t be difficult to get around it , although of course the control of the tank is clumsy), then we keep our distance from the tiger, if possible. And also, pressing the sensor on dsh4 will help you a lot, since on low difficulty it will show where the targets are, that is, the tanks.
