How to unlock the Serious Gamer achievement in Capcom Arcade Stadium - Definitive Guide

Start up the game Vulgus and go into game settings. Turn invincibility ON, start game, put in a credit and start it up. You can leave the game running as long as you like as you will not die. Make sure to have a wired controller connected so it does not turn off. I had it running for 10+ hours and the game never ended. Perfect if you want to do this while sleeping. You can check how much time you've played overall in the "Triumphs".
(If you don't have Invincibility, you can purchase it in the store for $1)

RAINKINGX1 stated to rubber band your left analog stick while playing if you encounter an issue where it resets after 10 mins.

What is a good way to keep your controller alive so it doesn't pause after no controller activity?

Plug in a USB cable and your controller should not disconnect

You can try an arcade stick if you have one of those.

I would add to your guide to rubber band the left analogue stick because if you just leave it plugged in , it still resets after about 10 minutes. That is even with a controller plugged in , but not doing any movements.

I use some sort of weight to hold down the X button. In my case the weight of a cell phone is enough to keep the button pushed. I tried and it worked. ( i have a crappy 3rd party wired controller)

If you have alone pack 2 like me, choose captain commando and change the settings for the 4-players machine. Now you can add 99 lifes, you die each 5 minutes, so 99 X 5 = 495 minutes / 60 minutes = 8 hours and 25 min, so very good to put to grind when you sleep. Just not sleep in you bed like a rock 🤣

I managed to wrap my charge lead around the controller in a way to catch the left analogue stick. I’ll see if it works in a few hours’ time!

How hard is it to keep a controller running without it turning off? Jeez what is wrong with you people and downvoting for BS reason?

I'm going to try to do it with Captain Commando then. One interesting things I've noticed though. I have my arcade stick hooked up with A turboed, and when the timer expires the character would not die. So this can go on indefinitely. laugh

If you go to the games list, the [Y] button should bring up times played and time played for the various games, along with the total counts. From what I've seen, it only counts in-game time - not at the attract/start screen of a game, nor on the Stadium's main menu.

Also, it counts real-time. If you set the speed to slow-mo, a minute in real-time counts as a minute towards the achievement, even if the game only progresses 10-15 seconds internally. Reverse is true; max speed may move you 5 minutes through the game, but only tracks for the real minute taken.

Since I only picked up Ghosts & Goblins (no invincibility), I change the config to make max lives (6-7?), set the speed to slowest, and then let it run until lives run out. I then continue when I hear the game over tune; I think it takes about 7 minutes each run. Not as good as a pure idle method, but it helps towards the goal.

This is one for without invincibility.

Start up the game Pirate Ship Higemaru. Get to level 4. Use the white flour bags to corner yourself in so the pirates can't get to you. This level doesn't have time limit and only ends once you kill all pirates, so now plug in your controller, come back in 100 hours!

Here's video demonstrating this strat;

You can check progress in Triumphs menu item.

You can go into the game and use a rubber band to secure the rewind button. Time is counting
