You can press SQUARE after you highlight Captain Commando in the menu to access Game Settings. Increase the number of continues to maximum (4) and lower both difficulty levels to make unlocking the trophy much easier.
Also when you're playing the game you can press the touch button and save. It's a good idea to do it before each boss battle. If you lose too many lives in a single boss fight you can load the save and try again to do better. There are 9 chapters and each one ends with a boss fight. Also the final boss is the toughest one so make sure to have many lives left. :)

Captain Commando features 9 levels. You can breeze through the game by lowering the Difficulty Levels to 1 star and increasing your Extra Lives to the maximum. While normal attacks work fine, you can spam 
+
to do your character's special attack. This will drain your health bar each time the attack connects with an enemy but with unlimited continues, it's an easy way to deal with enemies that constantly surround you. Use it sparingly to save health or spam it and abuse the continue feature!
