How to unlock the Count of Carcassonne achievement in Carcassonne - Definitive Guide

If you don't want to shell out more money getting the Kings and Barons DLC, then there are a couple of tactics you can use to help you get it without it. One is to make good use of farms, and to understand how they work. The computer on easy will never use farms, so try to manipulate the roads so that there are only one or two huge farms on the map, connected to lots of little cities. Small cities are best, as you will get three points for each city a farm connects to.

The other main tactic that can really help is to learn how to steal opponents cities and roads - mainly cities. Once the computer starts to build a city, particularly if they are making quite a large one, you can put a city piece down nearby (close but not connecting) with a villager on it, then try and connect the two cities. This will result in a very large city, and both of you will get full points for it, so you can easily get an extra 30 points right there.

I just had a decent game where I was able to hi-jack just one of the bots cities, and ended up with a score of 192, without using any of the DLC. Considering you'll be playing this quite a few times on your way to 5000, you should be able to do this successfully at least once on your way, without having to shell out more money on DLC.

Great solution, it took 3 games to do it. Hijacking a bot's city pushed me over. Thanks!!

Start a single game with one opponent on easy. Avoid the expansion pack River. The King and Barons expansion pack can be bought on the marketplace. I couldn't get this one without the expansion packs, so I bought the King and Barons pack and I had the achievement the first time I played.
You'll get more points with the King and Barons pack turned on. Make sure you are King (make the biggest castle) en Baron (make the biggest road) because at the end you'll get extra points for every finished castle (if you are King) and extra points for every finished road (if you are Baron)

Edit: You have to "finish" the biggest castle and road to become King and Baron, so make sure you put the last piece. It is not necessary to have a follower on it when finishing the castle or road.

Edit 2: For those who do not want to buy additional DLC

Well, after reading guide I didn't really want to buy DLC. So I played a couple and by my 6th game I scored 197!!! You really just need to steal roads and cities. Even if it doesn't look good or make sense drop a guy unless your down to 2.

That worked great! I got it on my second game after getting the DLC. I was so frustrated when I got 140, 145 and so on without the DLC. Thanks!

Done in single player after you get good at the game. Choose Easy, 2 players(one been you), then if you have any expansion packs then use them to get as many tiles as possible. Make as many large castles and monisteries as possible. If you wannt place icons on land, then only do so on large areas of land so you can get as much farm territory as possible. Aim to break 100 points before the last tile is placed as it is rare to break 150 points on the final tally.

Took me about 30 games to hit 150 in single player. If it's worth $3 to you to 100% this game, I'd recommend the Kings and Barons DLC. If you get both the king and baron, you get a lot of bonus points. I hit around 100 both times I've gotten 150, before the tally. You really need both bonuses though. I got 159 two games in a row after so many games, haha.

To get this achievement, all you have to do is score 150 points in 1 single player game which is probably the hardest achievement (but still very makeable) These are your possibilities to score:

During the game:

  1. Build a city = 2 points / tile + 2 points for every little blue/white shield inside your city.
  2. Build a road = 1 point / tile.
  3. Build a Monastery (which can also be done by surrounding a cemetery with tiles = 9 points.

After the game:

  1. Unfinished city with your follower inside = 1 point / tile.
  2. Unfinished road with your follower on it = 1 point / tile.
  3. Unfinished Monasteries with your follower = 1 point / adjacent tile.
  4. For every farm = 3 points per city that is supplied by a farm (see "Farm Boy" achievement.

This is easiest done in a local multiplayer game set to two players. From the Main Menu, click New Game, then Select Players. Make sure your Gamertag is one of the players, and make the other player a Guest. To do this, click the red "X" next to the AI player name. Then click the "+" to add a new player. Scroll down to Local Gamer Profiles and select any guest player. This will allow you to control both players in the game.

Now, when you play the game, just focus on getting the most points possible for your player. Use the guest player to help your player get points (build bigger cities, longer roads, complete cloisters). You should have no problem getting this. This will unlock at the end of the game after the scoring.
