After you reach Ranger rank 6 you'll be able to encounter Orb Fusions just like Rogue Fusions. These have an orb to fight first that you need to kill which will then break and you'll be fighting the actual Rogue Fusion. Defeat this and the achievement will pop.

Is the only way to reach rank 6 to grind out Fusion materials?

Indeed, which you can either get by doing the board quests, or beating Rogue Fusions (or open chests, beating captains, but there are a limited number of those). Clearing the board also gives multiple materials (how many varies).
It's quite a slog in the home stretch.

Here's a tip that lessened the grind for me, the return on scrapping candles counts towards your total. Now if you actually want to buy things in the shop don't do this, but if you just want to get to Rank 6 asap this is the way to go.

Yeah it really does save time! Every candle scrapped is basically 25 battles done instantly. Still have to grind the 5 stars, but I was done with the 5 stars grind around Rank 4 I think.

I ground to rank 4 before, I seen this, luckily I never spent Fusion Materials once the grind started, so I just bought 4 candles, recycled them bought 2 more, recycled and that was rank 5 done. Great tip.

Do these just show up randomly after rank 6 or is there a quest that needs to be done first? I’m now rank 7 and haven’t had one show up.

@SavouryPilot There's no quest for these. They'll just show up on the map once you reach rank 6. If I remember correctly, they'll even be named on the map if you hover over them so you can check all of the fusions to find where it is.

I can confirm you won't encounter Orb Fusions until you reach level 6 on the bounty board, despite what others have said regarding only needing to reach level 5...
Once you reach level 6, just keep resting and checking the map until an Orb Fusion appears. You will need to wait a couple minutes after resting for the map to fully populate with new encounters.

Now that I have completed this achievement legit I decided to check the debug menu and see if it could be boosted. Turns out you can just give yourself the Fused Material you need which would save a considerable amount of time if you wanted to take that approach.
I won't provide the commands needed to do that here, but I'm sure anyone who wants to will be able to figure it out.

I can confirm the comments before mine:
- they appear from rank 6 on,
- they are indeed marked on the map as an "orb fusion" (not any other fusion or undefinied)
- they look like a "ball" / circle when approaching them
- they need a lot of time to show up, had to rest a couple of times!

Something that I didn't initially realize and might help other people - you have to rest a FULL DAY (ie, twice in a row) to reset the map spawns. If your rest just takes you from day to night, it's still going to be the same spawns. After hitting board rank 6, I think I had to go through two day cycles before an orb fusion showed up.

if you really don't feel like grinding for this for hours on end, it's possible to cheat to rank 6 using console commands, making this a breeze. i'm not familiar with rules on this site tho so maybe describing how would get me banned 😔
