How to unlock the All-Star achievement in CastleStorm - Definitive Guide
Before you try to get this achievement you will want to get A LOT of coins.
An easy way to boost this is to go on Kingdom Quest ---> Ore Mine ---> Frenzy battle!
Put it on hard and use the projectile Tri-Stone. You can win this level in under 20 seconds and you get 3,000-5,000 coins every time.
You will want to keep playing this until you have maxed out EVERYTHING (or at least what you will use).
Remember you also need to level up the equipment from 'Welcome to Vikingland'.
Now on how to get 5 stars in a mission.
You CAN NOT get 4 in one run then the last one in another to gave all 5 meaning you MUST get all 5 in one run.
How are they given out?
2 for accuracy (How accurate you are with the ballista
2 for difficulty (One on Normal. One on Hard. Playing on hard gets them both.)
1 for the bonus objective.
Hints and Tricks:
Guardian Spirit/Ghost Army will kill all enemies apart from Bosses.
Any Mission where you have to Protect so many people or something similar can be won by destroying the enemy castle. (Example of this can be found in the second mission I have listed)
Orcs/Troll+Griffin/Dragon is a great combo for clearing out enemies and protecting yourself. If you can get 2 of each out you should be safe for a while.
On hard you do not get a guide of where your projectiles will go, however if you equip Crystal Beam/Death Ray they will have a laser aim. You can use this to help guide your projectiles.
On most of the missions it is faster and easier to get the flag. But I recommended sending Golum/Trolls out to destroy the gate while you and Gunners attack the castle.
If you break the gate send a fast unit (anything riding an animal) to get the flag and protect it with the The Golum/Troll and a Hero.
First i will run though Kingdom Quest setup and the harder missions.
You will see some mission guides below these are the missions I found hard. If you are struggling on a mission please post in the comments which one and I will add a guide for it.
Kingdom Quest
Castle.
Pick 'Skyhaven' and edit out the Archer and add the Priest.
(Also make one with Swordsman as a bonus objective requires them)
Projectiles
Javelin Burst.
Apple Grenade.
Tri-Stone.
Potion of Conversion.
Homing Eagle.
Spells
Sir Gareth
Bless
Heavenly Sword
Holy Shield/Projectile Shield. (It depends on the level and what the objective is)
Guardian Spirit.
Troops
Priest
Mounted Knight
Griffin
Stone Golem
Catapult Bearer.
Rooms
All of them.
Missions.
Donkey Island
Flag of the Island
Objective: capture the flag on the island!
Bonus: Win without using your ballista.
Wait until the Timer at the top reaches 4:10 then use Guardian Spirit and send out a Mounted Knight.
Everyone will be dead and the Mounted Knight can get the flag without being attacked.
Ore Mine
Clearing the Mine.
Objective: Occupy the mine with your troops!
Bonus: Destroy at least 3 enemy rooms.
I found that trying to get 15 units to the mine entrance was quite hard but there is another way to do this mission. As I mentioned above you can destroy the castle and win that way.
I recommend using a few of the Cannon Bearers then sending out some trolls to kill any enemies so you can focus fire on the castle.
Remember though that if the troll reaches the mine it will enter it and no longer fight so keep an eye on it. If it does go in the mine and you need protection remember you still have the Hero and all of your spells.
Mountain Entrance
Clear the Way!
Objective: Defeat the enemy!
Bonus: Have no more than 3 rooms destroyed in your castle.
This is one of the hardiest levels if you do not know what you are doing.
First you will want to check the Projectile Shield is equipped, with out it this level is almost impossible to 5 star.
When you start wait for the Golem to pick up the rock then shoot him in the face so he drops it. Wait until you have enough food and summon a Cannon Bearer, he will attack the Giant Golem and any smaller ones he spawns.
Ideally you want 3-4 Cannon Bearers and the rest Stone Golems.
Everytime he picks up a rock to throw at you shoot him in the face and make him drop it, if you miss and he throws it quickly put down the Projectile Shield on the rock, it will break it (you can also try and shoot it.)
Sometimes the rock will bounce of the Projectile Shield and hit the golem. i am unsure what triggers this but it does a lot of damage, it took him from 3/4 to dead when it happened for me.
This mission will take some time.
Now for the second part of the campaign.
Welcome to Vikingland
Castle
Dragonstone.
Projectiles
Mjolnir
Fire Blast Bomb
Multi-Ice
Turkey Elixir
Death Ray.
Spells
Freia
Cpt. Thorvard
Blizzard
Stone Rain
Ghost Army.
Troops
Druid
Bear Rider
Gunner
Mountain Troll

Viking Border
Mad Turkeys
This is easily the most frustrating mission in the game.
Before you even attempt this there are a few upgrades you should make.
Weapons (These are the ones you will use. The levels are what I had them at.)
Harpoon (LV10) Trash Metal (LV9) Mjolnir (LV8) Fire Blast Bomb (LV9) Multi-Ice (Level 9)
Rooms (Again levels are what i had.)
Treasury (LV10. When I first tried this I had it at LV1 and I couldn't even come close)
Giant horn (LV9).
There isn't really a strategy for this, but I found using the Trash Metal and the Fire Blast Bomb on big groups or for long shots was effective.
Noroheim
Turkygeddon
Do you remember the one from earlier called 'Mad Turkeys'?
This is part 2! Oh the joy!
But wait! Don't panic yet because this one is easier!
Use the same weapons as you did in Mad Turkey; Harpoon, Trash Metal, Mjolnir, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice.
This level is smaller, so you don;'t have to worry about as much dip.
You have higher ground reducing the dip even more.
The amount of coins you needs is less. 1000 Coins less to be exact!
There are more birds.
All of this combined makes the Trash Metal a monster!
Boar Horde
Objective: Hunt the Boar!
Bonus: get at least 30 headshot kills.
This one is easy to complete but I added it because of the Bonus.
This is one of the levels where you control a hero, Freia in this case and you are on the floor fight instead of controlling the ballista.
The best way to get 30 headshots is to run to one side of the map (Run and jump there, you will be hit less) and then use your throwing ability (RB+A) to headshot the Boar. When they get to you simply run to the other side and do the same again.
Rinse and Repeat :)
Troll Village
Domination
Objective: Kill the Troll Chieftain and capture the flag!
Bonus: Win without using the ballista.
This was one of the few that I struggled with.
This is how I finally did it.
Wait a few seconds and use Ghost Army.
When that has finished defend your self ad try get out two dragons.
Send out the hero Freia to kill any surviving enemies.
Now send a Bear Rider to collect the flag.
Bladgard
Crystal Defender/Red Gem Redemption
Objective: Destroy the Blue/Red Teardrop gem!
Bonus:Finish the Mission in 4 minutes.
It should be noted that in the first half of the campaign you have the missions;
'Crystal Defender2/Red Gem Redemption2' so you can follow this guide for them levels.
I have combined these two levels because they are the exact same.
You have to destroy a crystal at the enemies spawn.
You will want to start with the following projectiles; Harpoon, Trash Metal, Mjolnir, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice.
Kill the first enemies with Ghost Army and then spawn a troll (or 2) to kill any that spawn.
They will kill everything while you take out the crystal. Every time you get enough meat spawn a Gunner not only will they help you in attacking the crystal but they will also help the trolls kill the enemies.
(When I did this I had a max unit size of 13. I had 2 trolls and the rest gunners)
Like I said above these are the missions I found hard. If you need a guide on any please post in the comments and I will add one as soon as I can.

REQUESTED GUIDES
Kingdom Quest
Royal Arena
The Birds
Objective: Survive the attack!
Bonus: Finish the mission in 1:30
This is one of the missions where you play as a Hero, Sir Gareth in this case.
I had him at level 8 when I did this.
You are attacked by turkeys and have to kill so many of them.
This isn't hard to do, it is the bonus that makes this hard. Range attacks and the (B) attack are your friend here. Range attacks will cut out the time as the arrow will travel across the map faster than you, but remember you get accuracy stars.
Sir Gareth's (B) attack makes him jump the the air and swing, this will help you kill any low flying turkeys and the ones on the ground at the same time, which will save you 2-3 seconds each time.
Once you get good with the bow you shouldn't have a problem with this.
Ore Mine
Crime Prevention
Objective: Stop the thieves!
Bonus: make sure that no one gets through.
This is one of the missions where you play as a Hero, Sir Gareth in this case.
I had him at level 8 when I did this.
In this one you are blocked off by some rubble and you can only hit with the range attack (RB+A) if you are not very good with it this may cause some difficulties. But over time you will get better with it.
In this mission block (LB) is the most important thing. What I do is only aim for the thieves and every time an Archer shoots at me quickly block it and start killing the thieves. When there are no thieves alive on screen start killing the Archers. If you do it successfully you will end up with no more than 4 enemies on screen at once meaning you can quickly pick off the thieves and have a few seconds to get rid of the Archers.
Welcome to VikingLand
Viking Border
My Little Turkeys
Objective: Destroy the enemy castle!
Bonus: Finish the mission in under 4 minutes
In this mission your only projectile is the Turkey Elixir, but it isn't your only weapon!
You can still summon Troops (X) and cast Spells (Y)
What I recommend you do is you the Ghost Army to stop the first wave of enemies. Then summon a Hero until you have enough resources to get a Troll, when you do summon one. The Troll will kill the land units (Well most of them) and you need to focus on the air units with the Elixir until you can summon a Dragon. When you have a Dragon and Troll start aiming for the Castle, then summon one more Troll and one more Dragon just to be safe. Continue to aim at the castle and summon Gunners when you can to help out you and the other troops.
This mission is a tough one to beat because of the bonus objective, using my strategy I beat it with 12 seconds to spare. But it did take me 3 tries.
Noroheim
Homecoming
Objective: Survive the attack!
Bonus: Get a streak of at least 20 kills.
This is one of the missions where you control a hero, in this case it is Cpt. Thorvard.
I recommend doing the coin method above to level him up to at least level 8 (I got him to level 10 just to be sure)
You can get the bonus objective when you start, you your (B) to charge into the first few enemies and avoid the armored Bear Rider. You should just about reach the enemy spawn, stand here and spam (X) with a little luck you will reach the 20 Kills.
What you should then do is run back and attack the armored Bear Rider, make sure you attack it from behind though because if it hit's you you will lose a lot of health.
Once it is dead you will want to kill a lot of enemies with your range attack (RB+A) This is so you can get the accuracy up so if you miss shots against the dragon you will still get the accuracy stars. (I killed every enemies apart from wolfs with my throwing attack from this point but it isn't required.)
When the dragon comes the best tactic is to wait for it to come down and attack some one then throw the Axe at it. After a few hits it dies and you complete the mission!
Bladgard
Laser Show
Objective: Make sure that no one get through.
Bonus: Get a streak of 12.
On this mission the only projectiles you have are Death Ray and Crystal Beam, however you do still have all of your spells and troops. It would be a good idea to upgrade the two projectiles (One is in 'Kingdom Quest' the other is in 'Welcome to Vikingland') so the cool down rate is better. You will also want the spell 'Blizzard' on.
You have to defend your gate from wave after wave of enemies, if any break it and get to your castle you lose. This isn't as hard as it sounds, the problem here is getting a 12 kill streak, the most I have been able to get is 13 which shows you do not have much room for error.
I found a way to get the kill streak at the very start. What you will want to do is let the timer reach 3:20. When it does look down and kill the enemies at your gate with the RED beam. When they are dead quickly look at the group of Trolls and shoot them with the BLUE beam, this will freeze them now kill them with the RED one. If done correctly you will enter frenzy. You will want to go back to the BLUE beam and shoot it at everything (do not shoot the dragons though). When the frenzy runs out you should have around a 10 kill spree, now quickly use the 'Blizzard' spell and freeze a group of enemies, then shoot them with the RED beam. This should push you to twelve, if not restart and try again.
For the rest of the mission be smart and use your troops and spells, you do not want all of that work to have been wasted.
An easy way to boost this is to go on Kingdom Quest ---> Ore Mine ---> Frenzy battle!
Put it on hard and use the projectile Tri-Stone. You can win this level in under 20 seconds and you get 3,000-5,000 coins every time.

Great start!
By barider2085 on 30 May 2013 22:24
The goal of this achievement is to get a 5 star rating on every level, in both campaigns of the game. To do this, you should beat the campaign on casual or normal first, then grind for gold and then go for the high ratings once you have some upgraded equipment. Most of this game is very easy, despite the fairly high ratio for this achievement, and you will get most of your 5 star ratings on your first try on Hard difficulty.
Thanks to Alcoholic Socks and anyone who commented on his solution or over on x360a for finding a lot of useful information. I just thought I'd post up a definitive solution with guides for all levels, as I wrote down what I did as I progressed through the game. This solution has guides for all levels in the game. Just search for the level name if you're looking for help with a specific one.
I'll list each level in order, starting with the Kingdom campaign. The "equipment" line on each level is the stuff I primarily used to beat it. If you prefer using a certain projectile or spell that I didn't mention, you can of course do that and it won't hold you back. These are just my preferred ways of doing it, which is also what I think is the easiest and fastest way.
HOW TO GET 5 STARS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5 stars means that you've beaten the level on Hard with no lower than 80% accuracy on your ballista, while completing the bonus objective. It must all be done in one go of the level for you to get a 5 star rating. Some levels allow a lower than 80% accuracy rating, but it's never a good idea to spam projectiles either way.
GRINDING GOLD
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Grinding for gold is pretty easy. The fastest known way to do it is to load up the level Ore Mines > Frenzy Battle! in the Kingdom campaign. Beating this level takes about 12 seconds and yields around 5,000 gold. In order to effectively grind, you can first play the level on casual and line up your shot with the aiming arc; set it up so that the bottom stone of the tri-stone just barely passes over the enemy gate if you split the stone right after shooting it. Complete the level and restart it again, while changing the difficulty to hard, and the ballista will still be aimed the same way you left it, so you can just switch to tri-stone and start spamming A as fast as you can. Keep in mind that this little trick to keep the ballista aimed doesn't seem to work if you tweaked your position with the d-pad, you have to just use the left stick to aim.
You're going to need between 3,000,000 and 5,000,000 gold - I didn't keep very close track, unfortunately - to get all the upgrades you need. That's a lot, considering you'll only be getting 5,000 per run, so I suggest you load up a movie on your laptop or phone or whatever you can come up with to pass the time, as grinding the amount you need will take about 2-3 hours.
EQUIPMENT
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By "equipment", I mean everything: projectiles, spells, troops and rooms. You will want to level up almost everything! It's easier to list the things I didn't level up to 10 than it is to list what I did upgrade, so here's the things you can easily skip as they will not be used in any level in this guide:
Kingdom: Javelin*, Morningstar, Homing Eagle, Holy Shield, Projectile Shield, Archer, Paladin, Donkey Rider, Prison
Vikings: Harpoon, Turkey Elixir*, Projectile Shield, Direwolf, Berserker, Horn Blower, Hammer Thrower, Prison
* These two ARE used in the guide, but you don't actually need to upgrade them.
If you want to save some grinding time and give it a shot without maxed out everything, I think the most important order for upgrades is rooms first (you definitely want all of these at level 10), projectiles (the most-used ones should be level 10, at least), troops third (level 10 is not a must, you can get by with levels 7-9) and finally spells (same as troops).
CASTLES
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For Kingdom, you want to use a modified version of the default Skyhaven castle. It has all the rooms, but it also has an unnecessary archer. Go into the editor and highlight the archer's room and press Y to delete it. Press A to add in a Catapult Bearer room, and then add a thick wall to the right of the Catapult room. Save it and name it Catapult or whatever you want. Then delete the Catapult room and add a Swordsman in its place, then save that as Swordsman. You will be using the Catapult version in most levels, but you need the Swordsman one for two of them.
For Vikings, you can use the default Dragonstone castle for almost all levels. One level requires you to take out the druid's room and add in direwolves instead, so follow the above instructions and save a castle as Wolves so you have it ready for that level.
KINGDOM CAMPAIGN
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the longer of the two campaigns. It's not very hard, though, and most of the levels are ones you can complete in your first attempt, at least if you follow my guide.
Kingskeep
---------------------------------------------
Protector of the Realm
Equipment: Sir Gareth
This is the tutorial battle. You should be able to 5 star it even on your first go with the game, but if for some reason you have trouble with it, just come back to it after you've leveled everything up and it should be a piece of cake.
Royal Arena
---------------------------------------------
This area is one of the most frustrating in the game, so you might want to come back to it later. It's not really hard, but you need some practice with aiming without a visual arc to help you, so it's best to not even bother with it until you've had experience from beating the rest of the game.
Ranger Management
Equipment: Sir Gareth
This one is ALL about your aim with the bow, and I can't really help you with that. Just practice and do it over and over until you get it.
Melee Mastery
Equipment: Sir Gareth
Head left as soon as you start and turn back right once you hit the edge of the arena, then back left again. If the dolls aren't going down in one hit, you need to upgrade Gareth.
Lord of the Arena
Equipment: Sir Gareth
Use your charge attack (B) to get the floating targets easily, then get headshots by getting close to the dummies and aiming at their face. Don't worry about getting shot with arrows, they're mosquito bites on a level 10 Gareth. Five headshots is ALL the dummies, so don't miss!
The Birds
Equipment: Sir Gareth
Most important thing to know is that you can beat this level without firing a single arrow! Go right as you start, and kill turkeys on the ground by hitting them with your X attack, and hit any flying enemies with your B attack (without charging it at all). If you get a good feel for when to press B to hit a flying turkey that's about to attack you, you can beat the level in around a minute without ever using your bow. Takes a few attempts, but is less frustrating than trying to aim without a visual arc is.
Dark Forest
---------------------------------------------
Direwolves!
Equipment: Javelin, Apple Grenade, Tri-Stone, Sir Gareth, Heavenly Swords
See solution for Vikings!, right below this one. (I wrote that first and am being lazy. Same strategy applies.)
Vikings!
Equipment: Javelin, Apple Grenade, Tri-Stone, Sir Gareth, Heavenly Swords
Start by aiming at the ground fairly closely to the ballista, but not too close in case you miss, and keep it there to take out the wolves and running vikings. By the time the second running viking comes running, your other projectiles and spells should start to become available. Apple grenade the runner, then Tri-Stone his buddies. Keep Heavenly Swords in mind for anyone that gets through, and when Sir Gareth becomes available, send him in to kill the rest of the enemies.
Jammed...
Equipment: Sir Gareth
This level is pretty annoying, due to the high headshot requirement and constant hammers being thrown your way. Use only your bow to take out enemies, and hope that you get 20. For wolves, aim down at the ground in front of you and wait for them to get close. For vikings, do the same but aim higher, of course. Try to ignore the hammers, even though they're annoying as hell, and keep aiming for those headshots. A level 10 Gareth will take extremely little damage from the attacks, though, so it's pretty easy and mostly comes down to how good you are with the bow and/or luck with headshots.
Angry Boars
Equipment: Javelin, Apple Grenade, Tri-Stone, Crystal Beam
Same strategy as the previous levels in this area. Aim at the ground fairly close to your ballista and take boars out as they move into your killzone. Use the other projectiles as soon as you can and try to get that 5 killstreak so you can spam some tri-stones.
More Boars
Equipment: Javelin, Apple Grenade, Tri-Stone, Crystal Beam
It's the same level again, but with more boars and a higher score requirement. It's tougher, but still not very tough, and the same strategy applies.
Kingskeep
---------------------------------------------
Defending The Crown
Equipment: Sir Gareth, any other spells you like using
Start by sending in Gareth to clear out the field. Once his time is up, you should have a full food stash. Call in a Griffon and a Stone Golem, then call in two Catapults, one Priest and then send Mounted Knights as often as you can. I called in a second Griffon for fun, but you don't need it. Level 10 troops will destroy this level.
Keeping The Keep
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit
Same strategy as Defending The Crown.
Ballista Oversheep
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit
Same strategy as Defending The Crown. Just keep in mind that you need 6 magic kills. I waited for the first six enemies to show up, then I called in Guardian Spirit.
Strike!
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Crystal Beam, Apple Grenade
First, get your triple kill out of the way by letting three wolves reach your castle. When all three are there, pop an apple grenade in their face. Then employ Sir Gareth and have him kill some fools, then send in Sir Brutus to keep it up. Wait for a bit and when enemies are about to reach your gates, send out Guardian Spirit. Then repeat the strategy as soon as you can, using Heavenly Swords whenever something slips by and you can't call in either hero. Use projectiles sparingly, as aiming is pretty difficult on this level, but do use them if something slips by and you don't have any spells.
Turkey Hunt
Equipment: Javelin Burst, Apple Grenade, Tri-Stone, Homing Eagle
Turkey levels are among the most annoying, but this one's not so bad. All the turkeys spawn right above your ballista, so aiming isn't all that tough. Switch up your projectiles, using Apples or Tri-Stone when enemies are bunched up.
Rogue Knight Attack
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit
Same strategy as the first three levels. When Brutus himself shows up (he has an icon above his head), send a Guardian Spirit his way and it'll take off 90% of his health. This one's the longest and hardest in this area, but once you have four griffins, a Golem, four catapulters, two priests and four Mounted Knights, you can basically go make a sandwich.
Donkey Island
---------------------------------------------
Flag of the Island
Equipment: Guardian Spirit
Wait until the timer hits 4:10, then use Guardian Spirit and immediately send a Mounted Knight afterwards. The enemies will all die and your knight will collect the flag. (Originally posted by Alcoholic Socks.)
Donkey Transport
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone (+ Battering Sheep?)
Employ Sir Gareth to protect the donkeys while your food builds up, then just start spamming griffons while bombarding the enemy castle with projectiles. Winning by destroying their castle is faster than waiting for the donkeys, and you need to destroy part of it for the bonus objective anyway.
Enemy Outpost
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep
Same strategy as Donkey Transport.
Call of Privy
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep
No troops, boo! Start with Gareth, as always, and clean up while your projectiles charge. Aim your ballista carefully and leave it aimed, then throw Apples and Stones at it as often as you can, using Heavenly Swords and Guardian Spirit to kill off enemies as you do. When about half their castle is in ruins, send in Brutus to get the rest of the hero kills. Then finish off the castle with projectiles. You may need to call in Gareth a second time towards the end to clear up enemies that are breaking your gates down.
Final Breakthrough
Equipment: Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep
10 frenzy kills is pretty tough and annoying. Start off by letting them get close to your gate, then hit the first few with an Apple and then send a Stone towards the rest. You should get frenzy, so spam the rest of them with Stones. Once you hit 10 (check by pausing), you can start using the same strategy as on Donkey Transport, skipping the use of Gareth.
Rogue Knight Return
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep
Gareth first, as always, to hold them off while you charge everything up. Start bombarding his castle, while sending out Catapults and Mounted Knights. The AI hates your griffons on this level and they'll just die quickly, as will Golems. Use everything at your disposal to keep the enemy at bay while you send projectiles their way.
Ore Mine
---------------------------------------------
Rogue Knights
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep
Don't worry, the 20 headshots are nowhere near as frustrating as they were on "Jammed..." The trick is that you don't have to get them with your ballista; you can send in Gareth and Brutus to get the 20 headshots out of the way right when the level starts. Then just spam griffons, golems, catapults and mounted knights while pelting the enemy castle with projectiles.
Crime Prevention
Equipment: Sir Gareth
Prepare to be incredibly annoyed by knockback. There's not many tips I can give you on this one, since it's exclusively about your aim with the bow. Try to take out archers as often as you can, but always prioritize the swordsmen trying to sneak off with gold.
Swordsmen FTW
Equipment: Sir Gareth
You need to have Swordsmen in your castle for this one. Start by sending in Gareth, as always, while you build up your food reserves. Afterwards, send in 15 swordsmen and start pelting the enemy castle with projectiles. Spam more swordsmen whenever you can refill your army. You'll likely win by picking up the enemy flag before doing anything else, since the enemy doesn't summon very many troops to stop your swordsmen, but it never hurts to prepare by crushing half their castle. Don't forget to switch back to your regular castle after this level!
Clearing The Mine
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep
Destroying the enemy castle is easier and slightly faster than filling up the mine, so focus on that. Start by killing off enemies with Gareth, then send out some griffons and catapulters, as many and as often as you can afford, while raining down projectiles on the enemy castle.
Frenzy Battle!
Equipment: Tri-Stone
You get to use projectiles with no cooldown on this level. A trick to make it very, very easy is to just play it on normal first and line up your catapult so that if you fire the Tri-Stone and split it immediately after firing, the bottom stone sails right past the enemy catapult (slightly above the gate). Then finish the stage and press Y to restart it, while changing the difficulty to hard. Your ballista will still be aimed in the same spot as it was on your last attempt, so you can just fire away with Tri-Stones and tear the enemy castle down in 15 seconds.
Creek Crossing
---------------------------------------------
Bridge Blockade
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep
A relaxingly easy level. Clear the field with Gareth, then start sending in griffons, golems, catapulters and mounted knights while you bomb their castle. I did it in 2:59 the very first time I played it with low-level gear, 2:14 with gear.
Aerial Superiority
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep
Your griffons need to be Troop of the Day on this level, so start off by using Gareth as always, then just start spamming nothing but griffons as you destroy their castle.
Scientific Interest
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Bless
In this one, you can't destroy any rooms in the enemy castle, so it's best to just leave your ballista alone. Use Gareth to start, then alternate between sending golems and mounted knights (but NOT catapulters!). Use magic and heroes when you need to help your troops out. Remember that Gareth can break the enemy gate down all by himself!
Rogue Knight Revenge
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Bless
Honestly, the hardest thing about this level is not winning before you get your 20 troop kills! Start off by waiting for the large golem to get close, and for your Potion of Conversion to charge, then convert him as soon as you can. Follow that up with another golem, griffons and catapulters to push the enemy back. Send in Gareth to take the door down as soon as you can, then start spamming mounted knights to have them fetch the flag. Pause to make sure you have 20+ troop kills before you start transporting the flag home.
Mountain Entrance
---------------------------------------------
Clear the Way!
Equipment: Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep,
This boss is a pushover. If you want, you can use Projectile Shield to protect your castle from the first rock he throws (which you can't stop him from throwing because your own projectiles aren't charged yet). Use the single Javelin to find where to aim your other projectiles, and then just leave your ballista there. Fire an apple, stone or sheep whenever he lifts a rock above his head. Sheep does the most damage, stone is second if you split it right before his face and apple is the weakest, but just use whichever one you have available. In between rock throws, spam as many catapulters as you can. They will crush any small golems that spawn, and they'll actually help take off about a third (or more) off the bosses health as they can hurt him when your ballista can't.
Mountain Passage
---------------------------------------------
Stone Power
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Bless
Start by having Gareth kill all enemies while bashing away at the enemy gates. After his time runs out, summon two golems, then send in Brutus to do what Gareth did and you should have the gates open when the timer runs out. Keep sending golems and a few priests to heal them and you should have no problem. Use magic to heal golems or kill enemies if you see them struggling.
Over the Hill
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Battering Sheep, Javelin
You need to start by finding where to aim by shooting loose javelins and seeing where they land. Once you have the right arc found, send in Gareth to deal with troops and hold Y to drop him as soon as you have 180 food. Start spamming catapulters as you bombard their castle with your own projectiles. Use magic to take care of trolls and protect your catapulters. Once you have 15 of them out, nothing will get past and they'll help you take out the castle.
You Cannot Pass!
Equipment: Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Bless
Another level where you can focus exclusively on your troops, thankfully. No need to bother with the ballista here. Start by waiting for the enemy troops to reach your gate, then call in Guardian Spirit to kill them all off. Then use Gareth, then call in three catapulters, then use Brutus, then call in three more catapulters. After that, keep summoning catapulters as often as you can, and use magic or heroes to kill off any enemies that get too close. Once the big boss viking starts killing off your catapulters, use a Guardian Spirit to kill his backup and summon some golems to slow him down. You don't need to kill him (and I don't think you even can on Hard), just keep him occupied with golems to fight while the clock ticks down. Use heroes to fend off any vikings behind the big boss, so he doesn't get any help killing your troops or breaking your gates down. You win when the clock reaches 0:00.
Bladgard
---------------------------------------------
Crystal Defender 2
Equipment: Javelin, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit
Switch back to your Swordsmen castle that you used for a previous mission. Use a few Javelins to find the proper aim at the gem, then just start sending swordsmen and be ready to fire off an apple when the gem's shield drops. You need a steady stream of swordsmen to force the gem to fire as often as possible, so send some griffons as backup whenever you can, use heroes to kill off trolls and don't fire your projectile until the laser is done freezing up the whole battlefield.
Red Gem Redemption 2
Equipment: Javelin, Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit
Same strategy as Crystal Defender 2, except the timing on the red gem is different. You want to launch your projectile as soon as the force field flashes white.
Meet the Chief 2
Equipment: Apple Grenades, Tri-Stone, Sir Gareth, Sir Brutus, Heavenly Swords, Guardian Spirit, Bless
One of the toughest "regular" levels in the game, if not the toughest. Get your 20 killstreak out of the way by calling in Gareth when the wolves are about halfway across the battlefield. Then start spamming griffons until the four overpowered super-trolls are halfway across the battlefield, then switch to summoning catapulters and start hitting the trolls with conversion potions, stones and apples. Call in heroes to do some damage; basically, do everything you can to kill those bastards ASAP. They're the real threat, not the boss! As long as you can take the four trolls out before they reach your door, you can stop the rest of the onslaught and, once the boss spawns, it'll slow down the enemy spawns. Your griffons and catapulters should be able to take off about half his life, and your spells and heroes will do the rest. This is the level where you need to use everything at your disposal and go hard on the high-level enemies.
VIKINGS CAMPAIGN
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Viking Border
---------------------------------------------
Rebel Escape
Equipment: Freia, Cpt. Thorvard
The most important thing in this level is to not try to use your ballista to take out enemies, as that'll likely kill your friends. You can take out the castle if you want, but it doesn't seem to do much and you can't win that way, so just focus on using spells and heroes to take out enemies and let friends pass. It's a pretty easy level.
Girl Power
Equipment: Freia, Cpt. Thorvard
Start out by using Freia and she should have 8 kills when her timer runs out. Summon one troll and, once some enemies show up, call in Thorvard and have him kill enemies and bash away at the enemy gate. Your troll should reach the door and pick up the flag a few seconds after Thorvard times out. Then you just hover over Freia's icon and wait to call her in the instant she's available again, to get the last few kills. If your troll dies, call in another troll before you call in Freia. It'll pick it up and bring it home while you fend off any enemies.
Border Breakthrough
Equipment: Freia, Mjolnir, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Booster Boar
Send in Freia first, then start spamming druids as you throw projectiles at their castle. This strategy should be second nature to you by now.
Mad Turkeys
Equipment: Trash Metal, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Snow Owl, Death Ray
This level is extremely frustrating and will drive you to hate the game. Not only are you supposed to make tricky shots with no aiming help whatsoever, but the bonus objective requirement is very high. Even if you get a 95% accuracy score, that's not a guaranteed win because you might not have gotten a multikill when you needed it, or whatever, and you'll be 50 gold short. This is "the developers didn't even test this because there's no way it's supposed to be THIS frustrating" kind of hard.
Best advice I can give you is to use your projectiles as efficiently as you can. Use metal and ice to get easier kills with the spread, and use fire blast when they're bunched up. If you're at four kills and need just one more for frenzy and some bonus gold, or want to keep your killstreak going, use a snow owl or the death ray. Once you're in frenzy, get a few easy killstreak kills with the death ray or fire blast! What you need to win are a few decent killstreaks, two 10x should do the trick. Spam those projectiles as soon as you can aim them and don't worry about trying to be precise (they've lowered the accuracy requirement for this level). That's all you can do, and wether or not you hit 5000 gold and 70%+ accuracy is pretty much just down to luck, so don't give up and keep trying until you get it. I know that advice sucks, but there's really not much else you can do for this extremely unfun level.
My Little Turkeys
Equipment: Freia, Turkey Elixir
You only have the turkey elixir projectile on this level, and you have to use it on dragons and high level trolls. You need to call in some dragons to clear the sky of all the dragon-turkeys, but other than that, just keep calling in gunners to have them destroy the enemy castle as you can't. Annoying level, but not very tough.
It's Personal
Equipment: Freia, Cpt. Thorvard, Mjolnir, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Booster Boar
Like one of the earlier levels, the hard part is to get to 20 hero kills before you win. You'll have to slow down and wait for your hero cooldowns and summon one at least three times to get the 20. After that, spam gunners, trolls and boars while you bring their castle down. The enemy spawns will ramp up as you go, so since you have to waste time getting hero kills, and thus losing your window for an easy victory, you'll probably have to win by tearing their castle down.
Norsheim
---------------------------------------------
Homecoming
Equipment: Cpt. Thorvard
Start off by charging past the boar with your B attack, then kill it from behind while it's busy with your buddies. Then just go to the edge of the screen and mash X until the screen says "Dragon!" Go back up to your flag and aim diagonally up at the sky, towards the dragon, and throw your knives when the dragon turns around close to the flag. It'll take a few attempts to find the right way to aim, and that's impossible to describe in text, and it's this part that'll ruin your 5 star rating by taking your accuracy down, so you'll have to repeat this mission a few times to nail it. It only takes 4 or 5 knives to kill him (with Thorvard at level 9), so you can only miss once or your accuracy rating is ruined.
If you're looking for advice on how to beat this level once, even on casual, you're not alone. It's the most oddly balanced level in the game, and is by far the hardest one to just beat and get 1 star on. The trick is to kill off the first wave of enemies, then stand back on the hill and spam knives at the enemies as they come up the hill. Then go up to the flag and toss knives at the dragon.
Resistance HQ
Equipment: Freia, Cpt. Thorvard, Mjolnir, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Booster Boar
You know the drill by now. Use your heroes to build up food and charge spells/projectiles, then call in some gunners, dragons and golems while you throw stuff at their castle.
Frenzy Showdown!
Equipment: Multi-Ice
You get to use projectiles with no cooldown on this level. A trick to make it very, very easy is to just play it on normal first and line up your catapult so that if you fire the Tri-Stone and split it immediately after firing, the bottom stone sails right past the enemy catapult (slightly above the gate). Then finish the stage and press Y to restart it, while changing the difficulty to hard. Your ballista will still be aimed in the same spot as it was on your last attempt, so you can just fire away with Tri-Stones and tear the enemy castle down in 15 seconds. (So, exact same strategy as on the other frenzy level.)
One More Rogue
Equipment: Freia, Cpt. Thorvard, Mjolnir, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Booster Boar
Same strategy as Resistance HQ.
Turkeygeddon
Equipment: Trash Metal, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Snow Owl, Death Ray
See Mad Turkeys under Viking Border. Same level again, only easier and with a lower gold requirement.
Boar Horde
Equipment: Freia
Just like the Kingdom level you played before, the difficulty here is getting those 30 headshots. Freia throws her axe slower than the Kingdom heroes fire their bows, but that's because the axe penetrates multiple opponents. This can help you get multiple headshots with one axe, if there are boars lined up nicely. Jump over the high-level armored boars when they start coming; you will have to kill them eventually (they turn around when they reach the edge of the level) but you don't want to mash away at them when there's like 10 regular boars that could give you headshots around. Overall, this one is much easier and less frustrating than the Kingdom equivalent was.
Troll Village
---------------------------------------------
Domination
Equipment: Freia, Cpt. Thorvard, Blizzard, Stone Rain, Ghost Army
Can't use the ballista on this one, but it's still very easy. First off, send in a Ghost Army to kill everything but the chieftan. Then use your hero's charge attacks on the chieftan - charge it out of his reach and try to make it so that your hero jumps past him as they attack, then repeat - and call in some dragons and gunners to help. When the chieftan is dead, send in some bears to go pick up the flag, and kill any enemies that show up with magic.
Trolls Ready!
Equipment: Freia, Blizzard, Stone Rain, Ghost Army, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Booster Boar
Use Freia to kill enemies and bash away at the door, then start summoning trolls when her timer is up. Start bombarding the castle, but this time it's pretty hard to hit the very first room beyond the gate so it's easier to send trolls to pick up the flag. I just destroy the castle to stop them from spawning tough enemies. Use only trolls so you get the bonus objective.
Here Be Dragons
Equipment: Freia, Blizzard, Stone Rain, Ghost Army, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Booster Boar
Same strategy as for Trolls Ready!, only this time you need to summon dragons and, to make it easier to make dragons Troop of the Day, you need to bring down the castle. Aim at the castle gate and throw your projectiles through there to hit rooms on the ground floor.
Dragons' Gold
Equipment: Freia, Cpt. Thorvard, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Stone Rain
All you need to do is be first to grab 10 gold pieces and bring them back home, so this one's pretty easy. Start off by holding enemies off with Freia, then call in three bears and then use Thorvard to hold off some more enemies while you wait for food to come in. Keep calling in bears and hit dragons with the turkey elixir when they come close (they turn around right above your ballista, making them very easy to hit on this level), and use magic and heroes to kill off enemies approaching the gold.
Kind of Magic
Equipment: Freia, Blizzard, Thunderbolt, Stone Rain, Ghost Army, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Booster Boar
This one's a little tough due to the high magic kill requirement. Wait out the first bunch of enemies and hit them with Ghost Army. Then start taking the enemy castle down and summoning dragons. Use Thunderbolt and Stone Rain whenever you see a few enemies come down the bridge together. When your Ghost Army is almost full again, let your dragons die and wait for the enemies to start filling up the bridge, then launch it again. It's going to be close and might take a couple of tries.
Clash of Knights
Equipment: Sir Gareth
This is a one on one between Gareth and Brutus. If your Gareth is level 10, this level is a joke. Just mash X and beat up on Brutus and you'll get 5 stars.
Bladgard
---------------------------------------------
Crystal Defender
Equipment: Freia, Harpoon, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice
Switch to your Direwolf castle (see tips at top of solution). Use a few Harpoons to find the proper aim at the gem, then just start sending wolves and be ready to fire off some multi-ice when the gem's shield drops. You need a steady stream of wolves to force the gem to fire as often as possible, so send some dragons as backup whenever you can, use heroes and magic to kill off enemies that get to your gate and don't fire your projectile until the laser is done freezing up the whole battlefield.
Red Gem Redemption
Equipment: Freia, Harpoon, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice
Same strategy as Crystal Defender, except the timing on the red gem is different. You want to launch your projectile as soon as the force field flashes white.
Laser Show
Equipment: Death Ray, Crystal Beam, Freia, Cpt. Thorvard, Blizzard, Stone Rain, Ghost Army
Start off by letting enemies get to your gate, and once the clock hits 3:20, blast them away with your red laser, then line your blue laser up so that all four trolls get hit by it and fire. Use the red laser to take frozen enemies out and you should enter frenzy. Use the blue laser to shoot at anything on the ground to freeze and then kill it, and you should get a 12+ killstreak. After that, spam dragons, trolls and gunners while freezing and killing enemies (using both the Blizzard spell and the blue laser). The other spells don't really do much against these high-level enemies, but a Ghost Army will always soften them up a little bit if there's a ton of them on screen. If one gets to your gate and you have nothing else to do, summon Freia or Thorvard and charge attack them from side to side. (12 killstreak strategy originally posted by Alcoholic Socks.)
Meet The Chief
Equipment: Freia, Cpt. Thorvard, Thunderbolt, Stone Rain, Ghost Army, Fire Blast Bomb, Multi-Ice, Turkey Elixir
Use Freia to get that 20 killstreak out of the way right away, then start spamming dragons and some gunners in preparation for the four super-trolls that come out before the boss does. Hit two of them with turkey elixir, then spam the other two with every other spell, projectile and hero you have, while still spamming dragons and gunners. More dragons than gunners, though. Once the chief comes out, keep doing what you did against the trolls, only this time you have to get into a groove of hitting him with a hero's charge attack from one side, landing on the other side of him and doing it again, or else he's going to get away with your flag. Match ends when he dies, so unleash everything you can on him.
Just want to start off by giving a shoutout to DROGTURIST. This guide is PERFECT summarization of each and every stage and what is needed for that 5*.
However, this game is definitely doable without all the grinding. Some levels will go by much easier/faster if you level certain equipment. For example, Sir Gareth leveled to 10 makes Troll Village-Clash of Knights very easy whereas anything but level 10 may not be able to get the 5* on hard. My strategy for most of the game was to spam projectiles to destroy the enemy castle. Obviously, some levels have different requirements to win and this wouldn't apply to that. By focusing on generating gold early and spamming projectiles, I was able to beat most stages without upgrading everything to 10 and overall less grinding time. Griffins/Dragons + Catapults/Gunners will destroy most if not all enemy troop while letting you spam projectiles. Remember to use spells/heroes to protect assets for certain stages.
Just posting my leveled equipment for those interested in specifically what I used:
Kingdom-Projectiles
---------------
Javelin-5 (Your most used projectile. Upgrading will let you break buildings/troops down faster. Not necessary but could speed things up.)
Tri-Stone-10 (This and level 1 apple grenade destroys castles very quickly.)
Kingdom-Spells
---------------
Sir Gareth-10
Kingdom-Troops
-----------------
Swordsman-3 (One level requires swordsman to be the troop of the day. Leveling this will help but as long as they're your only troop used that match, you should be fine. Win by destroying the enemy castle instead of flag capturing.)
Catapult Bearer-10
Griffin-10
Kingdom-Rooms
-------------------
Recruiting Office-10 (Allows you to have more troops. More troops = faster kills or castle destruction.)
Pantry-10
Prison-10 (Bonus gold at end of rounds for more upgrading. Worth investing early as possible to maximize earnings.)
Treasury-10 (Again, more gold = more upgrades.)
Kingdom Flag-10 (Helps to spam projectiles to destroy enemy castles faster.)
Norde-Projectiles
----------------
none
Norde-Spells
-----------------
Freia-10
Cpt. Thorvard-10
Norde-Troops
----------------
Gunner-9
Dragon-9
Norde-Rooms
------------
Pantry-10
Treasury-10
Prison-10
Recruiting Office-7
Giant Horn-10
All in all, not sure how much gold is required to upgrade all that but play to your own style! If anyone has questions, feel free to PM me and I'll try to remember and explain further.
Cheers.

Hey DROGTURIST, I have the Definitve Edition for the xBox One and wanted to see if you have any insight the Royal Airport - Northern Flight - Dragon Attack campaign/level? If you have no idea, no worries, I am just not sure what I am doing wrong. Thank you for any advice you may have.

Alcoholic Socks solution is fantastic, as he said you just have to upgrade your gears to the maximum level. Nevertheless there is a way to earn money quicker :
Play Vikings Quest ---> Norsheim ---> Frenzy action (3rd mission). Use the multiple ice projectile, shoot just in front of enemy door, his spawn point, until you get 15 kills streak. Then you loose it :( Then start shooting the castle from the top to down sending few bullet each time an enemy spawn. You should get 10k to 12k each time.

This method is actually slower... It takes around a minute to wait for the 15x multiplier and you get 10k. The other method takes 12 secs and gives you 5k, so in a minute you can earn 15-20k (accounting for stat screens etc).

Need to complete every mission with 80% or more accuracy on hard and complete the side quest in one run.
Sounds harder than it is. Most are fairly easy, only a few will require several tries. Level up your equipment as much as you can.
Use your ground troops as much as possible reducing the amount of shots you have to fire. You can keep hitting the enemy castle with a weak attack to bump up your accuracy if needed.
