How to unlock the And so the ghastly night has come to an end achievement in Castlevania Anniversary Collection - Definitive Guide

First off, I would like to say that this is one of my all time favorite Castlevania games and would greatly encourage everyone to play it through legitimately. However, if you want to expedite the process for the achievement, here is a shortcut:

1.) You can use the password function to set yourself up for the final fight: 7MEF-0VFT-151Z-Y2Z5.
2.) This will start you off at the start of the game, but with all of Dracula's body parts. You just need to reach his castle for the boss fight.
-It is highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the controls. The setup is a little awkward, but you can change if you need. To use special items, hold up will press the attack button.
-From the town you start in, go down the stairs and head West. You will continue until you reach a ferry. Talk to the ferryman, and he will take you across.
-Keep heading West and continue straight when given a choice (don't take the stairs that go underground).
-You will eventually reach a dead end (or is it?) Crouch in front of the wall and a tornado will take you to a new area (since you have the red crystal that allows it).
-From here, head East. When you see a split path that goes downward, take it.
-Now, just continue East.
-After a graveyard with actual tombstones that you must jump over, you will reach another seemingly dead end. Here you will use your flame whip to clear a path (make sure you select Dracula's tooth so you can break these blocks).
-Follow the bridge to the castle. In here, you will have to use your flame whip and holy water to clear a couple more blocks.
-Continue to the boss.

3.) Now, you may be thinking that if you skipped 99% of the gameplay, how are you expected to beat the final boss? Super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Select the fire attack (not to be confused with your whip) from the menu and use it to constantly throw fire at the base of the platform where Dracula spawns. He will not be able to move and will die without even getting a chance to attack you.

Achievement unlocked.

Oh, and be sure to use save states if you are having issues.

EDIT:

Since some were having trouble with the written instructions, here is a video of me re-playing it for your convenience. Enjoy!

You beat me to it, I didn't even know of this code, but I used C0FE W26K RXKN VTJK. It may be inferior to your code but I got the job done.

Passwords work on Castlevania 3 if you want to update those solutions. This title is probably my favorite on the collection, so decided to knock it out first.

I've tried to follow this guide but I just can't work it out. This part:
-Keep heading West and take the upper path when given a choice.

When I get off the ferry a come up to a town with stairs going up, if I go up there's noting up there. If I keep going forward I come up a straight path or a path going down.

I just ran through again and recorded it Xbox DVR. As soon as I can, I will upload it on YouTube and post it to the solution. The whole process from Start Menu to end screen took 9 minutes. Hopefully it will help eliminate any confusion from players who have never gotten a chance to play the game originally.

Video has been posted. If there are any issues with the text instructions, just follow the video to the point in which you are having issues (you may have to equip a certain item to progress).
Video is less than 10 minutes. Let me know if there are any additional concerns.

Most, but not all. The original Castlevania has no password feature. And Kid Dracula has passwords, but I couldn’t find the ones for this version of the game. I just used gamefaqs.com for the password lists for all the rest.

It won’t let me select the password select at the title screen for some reason. Or start the game. Tried quitting and reloading.

I had this happen as well at one point. Do you have another controller plugged in, or connected? For some reason, one controller was able to do half of the commands and the other controller was operating the rest of the commands. Pretty bizarre really. I had to exit the game completely after removing the other controller.

No other controller. Didn’t make a difference when I quit to dashboard and restarted. But it worked fine when Played the next day after turning the console on again.

Thanks for the guide. Never would have got that on my own. Looks like a good game. But this isn’t the castlevania I got the collection for, so didn’t want to do a full playthrough

The bit with the tornado needs to be at night.

Not sure about that. I have played this game many times and never remembered that being a factor. Checked a couple of NES guides on the game and it is never mentioned either.

You do have to have the red crystal equipped though, or it won't work.

What are you doing at 3:53? You are going to fast in the video even with rewinding and pausing...

Edit: Oh I see, it doesnt matter what you are doing in your inventory if you just sit there the tornado comes to get you.

Yeah, I wasn’t sure if you needed to have the red crystal selected for the tornado to appear, but I was just checking to make sure it was equipped just in case.

I'm gonna give this a +1 because of the video. Your text guide (which I would have preferred) does not make clear sense.

Yeah, that is why I added the video. The game and mechanics may not make a whole lot of since to new players and using this method to start and finish the game in less than 15 minutes can be confusing.

If there is a specific section of the text in particular that you found confusing, let me know and I can try to edit it to be more user friendly.

Appreciate the upvotes!

Trying to select the laurels (for invincibility to get through swamp). The controls in the menu are a little quirky and it took me a few seconds to get the menu working correctly. Wasn't pretty for sure, lol.

Video guide helped thanks. Written part when you say to take the upper path had me co fused. I went west and went up stairs to take the upper path but wasn't the right way to go. You stay on the floor in your video.

Is this really worth playing? I tried it many years ago and got lost and frustrated with it. I've since beaten the GBA and DS games, as well as SOTN, but Simon's Quest always appeared boring and confusing.

Simon's Quest is highly enjoyable. I even wrote (with pen!) a guide for it during my high school years.

I'm gonna get this collection. Great solution by the way but just for this particular game, I'd love to play through it "normally". laugh

Sorry, I should have been more specific. You won’t need anything in the towns, you are expected to pass right through it. There should be a section afterwards that gives you a choice to either take an upper or lower route (upper route is more or less straight).

You will eventually hit a dead end (giant wall), but you will need to crouch in front of it to continue the game.

Lucas: Yeah, I can see where it is confusing (which is why I used the video instead). When I say 'upper path', I am referring to the section after the ferry where there are stairs going down. I probably will change the wording, as the 'upper path' is just continuing straight.

I loved it as a kid, so still have a nostalgic feeling towards it. It is definitely more confusing as it not as intuitive as the newer games. It did have some great mechanics that were pretty new at the time that helped sculpt the later Castlevania games.
If you do decide to play through it again, be sure to use a guide (or at least a map).
I think it has one of the better soundtracks too.

You must beat Castlevania II to earn this trophy. This game is a bit different from the first, in that it’s more open world, reminiscent of the Metroidvania formula most fans are familiar with. There are several puzzles that need to be solved for progression, as well as some tricks that require some knowledge and aren’t obvious.

The default controls for the game are:

Move right
Move left
Crouch/Use stairs
Enter building/Use stairs

/ Jump, use or to jump at a diagonal
/ Whip, talk to villagers
+/ Use items

IF you are just interested in the trophy, you can use this password to take you directly to the end of the game. At that point, you just need to travel to the final boss and beat the game, which takes about 10 to 15 minutes. It’s also possible to scam the last boss with a certain attack that basically makes him not move and very easy to kill. Follow the steps below if so:

Use this password to start a game with everything you need to move to the final boss.

Opening the menu and selecting the red orb in the first row and the candle in the second will allow you to use an item to allow you to walk through a poison bog.

Unlike other games in the series, this game is more of an open world puzzle. Once you enter the password, leave town by going down and left. Keep moving left until you get to a dead end. Here, you need to select the red orb in the menu and press down until a tornado comes to take you away.

After arriving at the other end of the teleport, immediately start going right. When you get to the first downward staircase that isn't in a town, take that and keep going right. You will find a bridge you can't reach, but selecting the fang item should allow you to break bricks and create a path. Eventually you will get to the a catacomb with walls that can be broken. In here you will need to use the potion item with the fang to attack the floor and break bricks to open a path to proceed. Eventually you will get to the final boss.

To easily defeat the final boss, equip the fire item in the second row of the menu, jump and keep throwing it onto the pedestal with +/. The boss will be defeated easily if you can keep repeating that.

In order to complete the game as quickly as possible, you need to enter one of these passwords (the second one worked for me) POSE LRBV U2DT UNIZ or RIG7 NVFX E45V 07BT. This cheat gives you all the items.
From the starting point, turn left. Red ponds can be passed using Laurel (this is the grass in the inventory at the very bottom on the left, there seem to be 7 of it). When the ferryman takes you to the other side, you only have to go through a couple of towns and a forest between them. When you reach the very left edge. There will be a mountain there. You need to do the following: 1. Equip the red stone. 2. Kneel on the third block from the left. 3. Stand like this for some time (less than a minute). You will be transported to the 4th castle. From there you will need to go to the right. Having passed the forest, the city, a destroyed bridge and a red pond, we go down. Then you need to go through the city, cemetery, bridge. To cross the bridge you need to demolish two blocks with holy water. We find ourselves in a ruined Castlevania castle. We go all the way to the right. There we break through the wall and floor with holy water. We go down and to the right. After you burn all the parts of Dracula there will be a boss fight. Boss falls in less than a minute, Laurel comes to the rescue.
The ending will be bad, but it will be enough to achieve it.
Map.
