How to unlock the Thanks For Playing achievement in Celeste - Definitive Guide
Since nobody wrote a guide yet, I will make the start and go for it.
NOTE First of all: To UNLOCK the C-SIDES, you need to have ALL the HEARTS and then beating B-SIDES. After completing ALL 8 B-SIDE chapters, you will unlock the C-SIDES!
Actually there is not much to say. I found the B-SIDES harder in a way than the C-SIDES.
The good thing at the C-SIDES is, that they are very short.
They are 3 ROOMS LONG so basically really SHORT.
The HARDEST CHAPTER of all was definitely the end of CHAPTER 7. Also the end of chapter 5 and 8 was a pain in the a$$ to me.
I hardly recommend to start with chapter 7. Because if you won’t be able to beat chapter 7, you can save a lot of time by attempting this achievement. (It’s just not that you complete Chapter 1-6 and then give up at Chapter 7).

CHAPTER 1 - 8 / C-SIDE
Here’s a video of all the C-SIDES:
I RECOMMEND TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE VIDEO. SO THAT YOU KNOW HOW THE RUN SHOULD WORK AND BE LIKE.
It doesn’t hurt to take a look first before attempting to get the achievement.
CHAPTER 1 - Forsaken City
Not much to say. It’s not really that challenging and you shouldn’t have too much problem with it. I had 72 deaths after completing Chapter 1.
CHAPTER 2 - Old Site
Shouldn’t be too challenging either. The only part which sucks a little bit was the last part in the last room. In the Video I posted, it’s at the mark: 01:47. I had 114 deaths.
CHAPTER 3 - Celestial Resort
Surprisingly it’s the easiest one in my oppinion. It’s really very short and I completed the last room on my 3rd attempt. If it was luck or not, I can’t tell - but even the guy in the video had a death count of 90 (then 112). I had 24 deaths.
CHAPTER 4 - Golden Ridge
Also surprisingly a very easy one compared to the other C-SIDE Chapters. My death count: 117
CHAPTER 5 - Mirror Temple
I was really struggling with that one. Room 1 and 2 are actually very easy. Then suddenly I was struggling with the last room. You really need to have a perfect run and a perfect timing to manage the last room. It was really hard to me so I wish you good luck. In the video, it’s at the mark: 05:01 - 05:25. I had 651 deaths (!)
CHAPTER 6 - Reflection
I wouldn’t say it’s easy, but it’s too hard neither. What this chapter makes it that easy is, that there are 4 save points.
The last room is in the video at 06:22
Thank god there are 2 save points in the last room. 1 by entering the room and the second one at 06:44. If there wouldn’t be a checkpoint, it would be a pain and very time consuming. My death count: 147
CHAPTER 7 - The Summit
That one is very, very hard. This is where the challenge and pain begins. Room 1 and 2 are actually very easy compared to the last room what’s gonna await you.
For any reason I recommend to start with this chapter. Because if you won’t beat this chapter, how are you supposed to get the achievement then. Or at least you can save a lot of time if you’d give up by attempting this achievement.
The last room took me 2-3 hrs to finally get through the hell. (Last roome starts at 07:54 in the video). My deaths: 401
JUST NEVER GIVE UP! I found a GOOD MOTIVATION VIDEO:
The guy had more than 1300 attempts and it took him more than 3 hrs for sure! It shows again that you should never give up and keep trying it. The happiness hormone what you get after completing it is indescribably and worth it.
CHAPTER 8 - Core
The last chapter was always the hardest one till now. (If it was in normal mode or B-SIDE). Luckily it won’t be so painfully as much as Chapter 7. But again you’ll learn a new ability - The “broad jump”. I found Chapter 8 very time consuming. Because the last room is very, very long (starts at 10:52 in the video).
For any reason I couldn’t manage that broad jump at 10:44 as in the video showed. It took me several trials to finally get through it. But till you get to that spot takes a lot of time because of its lenght.
The feeling after obtaining this achievement is totally worth it. It kinda feels like you had a big fight against someone and then you finally won.
OVERALL:
This achievement is really challening but at the same time it’s not. It’s just time consuming and sometimes you just need some luck to get through a part.
What the C-SIDE makes that hard is, you need almost a perfect run with always perfect timing. The last room of each chapter is very long. That what it makes so time consuming. Chapter 5, 7 and 8 makes the achievement that hard to get. But still I had almost less death than on my B-SIDE runs. If you are able to manage Chapter 7 or 5, you shouldn’t have any problems getting this achievement.
You can literally feel the game. I was nervous, angry and then happy. My heart throbbed so fast - I had a pulse above 120. I was sweating and could have break one of my controllers. And after all when you complete a chapter - that feeling you get! It’s unbelievable! It feels like no one can stop you and you’re god in a way. Like you’re the best player... but still it was just a chapter. Well, at least I felt like that, haha!
The game by itself is definitely a masterpiece. Even IGN gave a 10 out of 10 on their review.
The last time I enjoyed a game that much was a long time ago. The art, the soundtrack, the gameplay and its beauty is totally worth it.

How difficult would you rate this completion out of 10?
By EpiphanyFart on 09 Jan 2019 16:27
Agreed. I did Chapters 1-5 then discovered Assist Mode. I was having so much anxiety before from dying so often. I was yelling at the screen "Why would the makers of this game make this so hard!?!!!" Assist mode from now on.

It's not a solution but a bit more information.
First of all, you need to complete all B-Sides for unlock C-Sides.
C-Sides are ver very short stages, but very very frustating.
But....
If you use the assists, you can breeze all the 8 stages easily in less than 10 minutes.

That's what I'm talking about!
Use the Game Assist mode.
Whoever plays this game without game assist has too much time, too little money to buy a new game, and reaks of masochist.

Or, you know, we maybe actually wanted to play the game the way the developer intended. The level design and controls in this game are excellent. It's challenging but never quite gets to the point of frustration like many "masochistic" platformers do (and I've played my fair share of them). I have a full-time job and spend much of my free time performing physical fitness-related tasks, but thank you for assuming that I only played without Assist Mode because I'm some sort of no-life
Also, it's "reeks"

There's a video posted below if you prefer video over text!!!
In order to unlock the C sides of the levels, you first need to complete all of the B sides of the levels. That means you have to collect all the cassettes, as well as collect every other crystal heart in the game. After all that, finishing Chapter 8-B will unlock the C sides and you can groan in preemptive agony. Where the B sides of the levels were dialed up to 11, the C sides of the levels are dialed up to at least 30!
For every C side, I'll number the rooms so they're easy to keep track of. Each level only has three hyper-difficult rooms to complete, so in a way they're easier than the B sides. (They're not) Regardless, let's get to it.

Finishing all C sides should unlock the achievement and I want to congratulate you on your very well-earned achievement and probably the completion of an amazing game. Until next time, Game On!

Chapter 1
- Jump and grab onto the moving block, then dash up as you line up with the green gem to avoid slamming into the spiked wall. Dash up-right and grab onto the second moving block and do the same thing as before. On the third moving block, dash up and grab the fourth moving block, then dash up again and dash up-right to reach the end and exit right.
- Jump and dash to the first ice block, then jump and dash to the second one. Jump over the spikes and bounce off the right side of the block to land on the third ice block. Jump and dash right to grab onto the small moving block below. Jump off of it and hold left to avoid the overhead spikes, then weave right and fall down the gap to bounce off the wall and grab onto the next moving block on its right side. Jump as it reaches the end of its path to be flung to the last moving block, then jump off of it and hold left to fly up through the gap in the ceiling to exit right.
- Grab onto the first moving block and quickly jump over it to grab onto its other side and ride it down. Jump to the next block and jump as it reaches its peak to fly over the spikes above and fall down the other side. Grab onto the right side of the block and jump right and dash up-right to clear the spiked wall and land on the third moving block. Quickly jump to the fourth block, then jump and dash to the fifth block overhead. Climb up and jump off the block before you're squished to clear the spikes below and grab onto the incoming wall. Jump down to the block below, then dash up off of it to avoid the spike wall on the left and grab the blue gem. Hang on the wall until the block comes back, then drop onto it and jump from it to the new wall. Jump over it and grab onto the right side. Slide down to the bottom and jump right to dash up to the wall. Jump and grab onto the moving block, then jump off pretty soon after to fall down the narrow gap below. Grab onto the last moving block and jump up to dash right into the crystal heart and finish this chapter.
Chapter 2
- Dash through the first black block and hold on to the opposite side, then climb the wall and dash through the other block to exit right. This does count as one of the three zones.
- Use the jump pad to bounce through the spiked floor, then dash up-right through the first block to fall down into the middle blue gem. Dash up-left through the same block to get the top left blue gem, then jump down to the bottom to get the lowest blue gem and dash up through the block. Hold right to fall between the blocks, then dash up-right through the second block to get the last blue gem and slide down the wall to exit right.
- Dash and jump out of the first block to grab the higher blue gem, then dash left and jump out of the middle block to get the lower blue gem. Hold right and dash through the lower block, jumping out of it to reach the next set of blocks. Dash up through the first block, up-right through the second block, right through the third block, and up through the last block, then quickly dash right through the last block and jump out of it on the other side. Fall down through the gaps and dash through the blue gem to a green gem, then dash up for the next green gem and fall back down for a second. Dash up-right for the third green gem, then dash up for the last one and dash right through the block, holding onto it as you come out the other side. Fall down to the bottom and dash through the block and jump out of it to get the blue gem there. Grab onto the next black block and slide near the bottom to get the perfect jumping angle. Dash through and jump out of the block to get the next blue gem. Grab onto the block and do the same thing as last time for the last blue gem, then dash through the last block down here without hesitation and jump out of it to grab onto the now moving block ahead. Jump to the last black block and dash through it to reach the crystal heart and finish this chapter.
Chapter 3
- Jump and dash through the first set of pacing orbs, then delay each up-right dash until the orbs stop moving all the way to the right wall. Grab on and wait for the last pair of pacing orbs to clear the middle to jump left and dash up to climb through the ceiling.
- Climb the wall and jump onto the moving platform. Ride it down to just above the orbs along the ground before you jump off and dash up to kick off the small wall and land on the next platform. Ride it down to the same place and do the same jump and wall kick to reach the end and exit right.
- Mr. Oshiro will try to take you out here, so that adds an extra bit of difficulty. Jump and dash up-right to the first wall. Climb up and jump over to get the green gem, then fall down past the next wall and dash up-right again to reach the next wall. Do that one more time and hang onto the right side of the last wall to get the right positioning. Jump right and dash through the narrow gap to grab onto the far wall, then climb up and dash through the next narrow gap to get into the building. Wait for Oshiro to charge you and climb up the wall a bit to bonk him on the head, then drop down and dash through the last narrow gap to get another green gem. Dash to the platform and wait for the orbs to pass the left edge of their path to jump and dash up-right just before you collect the green gem, then do it again for the other green gem and land on the next platform. Wait for Oshiro to charge to jump out and bounce off his head to dash to the blue gem and grab onto the right side of the wall. The next part takes practice or luck, but you need to ride the wall about 80% of the way through its path before you jump off and get the green gem, then you need to dash up to bounce off Oshiro's head and hold right so you can dash into the crystal heart and end this chapter.
Chapter 4
- Jump and dash into the first blue orb, then fly up and wall kick off the small wall above as you come out of the bubble to clear the brambles ahead, then dash into the second bubble and repeat that same action, this time bouncing off the wall past the brambles before you dash to the third bubble and do it again to reach the end and exit right.
- Jump to the moving block and quickly jump to the right side before it starts moving. Jump to the right wall and bounce off of it to clear the block and grab onto its left side. Jump out and dash up to clear the brambles overhead, then grab onto the block again. Jump to the right side to get the green gem, then jump back to the left side. Jump left and bounce off the wall to grab onto the block again, then jump over it and bounce off the right side to reach the end and exit right.
- The wind will be very strong here, blowing to the right. Jump to the first pink cloud and jump off of it to clear the brambles ahead, then fall down to the edge of the zone and dash up to land on the second pink cloud. Run off the right side and dash up to land on the third pink cloud. Jump off of it to clear the brambles ahead, then fall down into the narrow gap, dashing if you need to. Jump with the wind and dash up-right to enter the first bubble. Fly down-right and keep that direction to land in the second bubble. Fly up-right and dash up to enter the third bubble. Fly right and dash just before you hit the brambles in the second gap to clear the third gap and grab onto the moving block ahead. Ride it until it breaks, then hold right to land in the fourth bubble. Fly up-right and dash up-right to land on the first crumbling platform. Run right and jump over the next three progressively smaller platforms to jump to the right and dash into the crystal heart ahead to finish this chapter.
Chapter 5
- You need to jump out and dash up to wall kick off the incoming moving block, which will clear the brambles on the next moving block that you'll have to grab onto and quickly slide down to jump off of to avoid the brambles ahead, while still getting the green gem. Repeat that sequence two more times and you're in the clear.
- Jump out far and dash up so that you can wall kick off the incoming moving block to be launched across the zone over the tall spike of brambles. Slam into the moving block ahead and just fall to the ground to exit right.
- Jump into the first orb and fly right, then dash up-right around the brambles to land in the second orb. Fly up-right, then dash up-left to enter the third orb. Fly down-right and dash up to wall kick off the tiny piece of wall amongst the brambles while holding left so you can grab onto the wall overhead and climb to the green gem. Jump over the brambles ahead and fall down to the right to dash up and kick off the wall to clear the brambles and get the green gem. Bounce off the moving wall and dash up to kick off the wall overhead to clear the brambles and fall down to the orb below. Fly right and dash up to kick off the small wall and hold left to enter the orb above. Fly right and dash down, then bounce off the small wall to enter another orb. Fly right and dash up-right to get the first green gem, then dash up into the switch to activate it and fall down to the next green gem. Dash up-right into the third green gem, then dash right into the fourth green gem and dash up to activate the second switch. Fall down to the fifth green gem and dash up-right to clear the last brambles and reach the end. Jump up to the next platform and dash into the crystal heart to end this chapter.
Chapter 6
- Jump to the first bouncer and hit it on its right side to be flung right, then dash up and wall kick off the small wall overhead to clear the spike of brambles ahead. Hit the next bouncer on the top to bounce up and dash right through the small gap in the brambles to the next bouncer. Bounce off its upper right part to be bounced up-right, then dash up after you clear the wall overhead to kick off of it and reach the end to exit right.
- Jump and dash right to fall through the brambles and get a green gem. Weave around the brambles and dash right to fall into a feather. Fly around the brambles and aim for the left side to fall out of the feather and weave through the brambles below. Dash right as you come to the longer stretch of brambles to fall through the gap and grab onto the wall below. Jump to the feather and fly up and around, aiming to grab onto the wall as you fall out of the feather. Slide down and jump left, then dash right to fall through the brambles and reach the bottom. Exit right.
- Jump into the gap in the brambles and slap the moving guy on his right side and ride him to the wall and partially back, until you can drop down and get the green gem, then dash up-left to slap him on his bottom and fall to the right to bounce off the ground and land on his head. Run off and slap his left side and hold on tight, aiming to be in the gap between the brambles on the left wall. Fall down through the green gem and dash left into the right side of the bouncer, then dash up into the bottom of the moving guy. Fall to the green gem below and dash left into another green gem, then right to land back on the moving guy's head. Let him rise enough to clear the third step along the ground, then slap his right side and hang on tight. Jump off as he slams into the wall to be flung into a green gem, then dash up-right to make it through the gap in the wall.
- This area is a checkpoint but still kind of part of the last zone. It's either zone three or four. Regardless, let's do it. Hit the first bouncer on its upper-right part to be flung near the second bouncer. Dash up to hit it on its right side to be flung near the brambles over the third bouncer. Dash up-right and fall down to hit the bouncer on its right side, then dash up and hit the fourth bouncer on its right side to be flung near the fifth bouncer. Hit it on its right side and dash up into the green gem above, then hold right as you fall and dash up to kick off the small wall and clear the brambles ahead. Fall to the sixth bouncer and bounce off its top as long as you like to get your bearings. Hit is on its right side to be flung near a green gem and the crystal heart, then dash into the crystal heart to end this chapter.
Chapter Seven
- The wind will be blowing upward very strongly here. Jump and dash up to the first two wall kicks, get the green gem in midair, then dash up to the next wall kick to clear the brambles ahead. Dash into the next green gem, then dash up and kick off each of the four left walls to reach a green gem at the top, then dash right through two gaps in the brambles to reach the Badeline orb. If you miss a wall kick, you can hold onto the wall you fall to and wait for the gems to return to keep trying without having to restart.
- The wind will be blowing downward very strongly here. Jump and dash up to the first jump pad and bounce right. Dash to the second jump pad and bounce up, then dash up-right and up to reach the third jump pad and bounce right. Fall with the wind and hold left after you pass the brambles to dash up-left into the blue gem and hit the same jump pad to bounce right. Dash up-right and up to grab onto the moving block, then jump and dash to the Badeline orb.
- In my professional opinion, this is the single hardest required zone in the whole game, requiring high precision and an extended necessary amount of focus. Use the binoculars to get a real grasp of what's ahead. Let's get to it. Jump and dash to the pink cloud. Jump off of it and dash right to clear the brambles and fall into the gap. Dash left into the first jump pad to bounce right. Dash up to clear the spike of brambles, then fall down and dash right to fall to the second jump pad. Bounce right and dash up twice just before you hit the brambles, then follow them down to the third jump pad. Bounce right and dash up-left and up to reach the fourth jump pad. Bounce right and fall down through the brambles to dash right and up to reach the fifth jump pad. Bounce right and dash up-right and up-left to reach the sixth jump pad. Bounce right and fall straight down, then dash right twice to reach a pink cloud. Bounce off of it normally and dash up-right and up to reach the seventh jump pad. Bounce right and dash right and up to kick off the small, spiked wall to get a green gem above. Dash right twice to land on a pink cloud. Jump off of it while holding right to weave around the overhead brambles, then dash up and up-right to reach the eighth jump pad. Bounce right and dash right into the first narrow gap, then fall down and dash right again to get a green gem. Dash right and up to get the second green gem, then dash up and right to fall down to the third green gem. Dash right and up-right to get the fourth green gem, then right and up-right to get the fifth green gem. Fall right and dash up-right and up-left to get the sixth green gem, then dash up-right and fall through the brambles to finally dash to the end and reach solid ground. The edge of the platform does fall away if you grab it or step on it. Head to the end of the meadow and have a chat with the old lady, then jump and dash into the heart to end this chapter.
Chapter 8
- To start, you need to have collected every other crystal heart in the game (23) to be able to access this level. Open the pillar and head to the right to get this mess started. You'll learn a new trick on the last level of the game, which was wild to me at the time. If you press and [cn_x] you'll do a small dash along the ground, but if you add [cn_a] to it, you'll do a very long dash through the air in an arc while keeping however many dashes you have left. As this is chapter eight, your dashes won't refill unless you collect a green gem, so you'll need to practice this new skill over and over to get it until it feels right and natural. You'll need to do it again at the very end of the chapter after crossing the longest zone in the game, so get used to it now. Jump your way across the three crumbling platforms after you've practiced, then exit right.
- Jump to the moving block and jump off of it to be flung up over the brambles, then fall down the gap and dash right and up to grab onto the upper half of the block. Jump off of it to clear the brambles ahead and fall to the moving block below. Land on the right half of the top to avoid the brambles overhead as you jump, then float through the gap and grab onto the moving block below. Jump off of it to get the green gem in the gap in the brambles, then dash up-right and fall a bit before you dash up-right again to activate the heart and hit the bouncer on its right side to be flung into a green gem. Dash up to hit the next bouncer on its right side, then do the same for the third bouncer to activate the heart and land on solid ground to exit right.
- This is the longest zone in the game, so use the binoculars to take a gander at the expansive zone. Hop onto the moving block and jump off as it reaches the end of its path to be flung right, then dash into the heart to activate it and land on the block below. Jump across the blocks as they appear, climbing the longer vertical block to reach another heart. Activate it and fall to the block below, then jump to the green and dash up-right twice to go through the black block to get the green gem above. Dash right through the next two blocks to activate another heart, then jump along the blocks and hit the first bouncer on its right side to be flung to the second bouncer, which you'll hit on top to bounce up to the green gem and dash right to the pink clouds. Jump off each cloud before it starts bouncing you up, basically as soon as you land on them, to reach the moving block at the end. Dash down and jump off the block as it reaches the end of its path to be flung into the next heart. Climb the blocks overhead as they appear, jumping off the last block as it starts to fall to get a green gem and dash right to land on top of a moving guy. Drop down and activate the heart as you slap his right side and hold on to his lower half as you fly across. Jump off as he slams into the wall to be flung into another heart and a set of falling walls. Climb up them and stall on the top wall for the lava to rise enough for you to jump over and clear the small block below to hit the jump pad on its right side. Bounce right across the next two jump pad blocks, activating a heart along the way before you bounce right into a green gem below a heart. Dash up to activate the heart, then dash right through the gap in the brambles into a second green gem. Dash up and right into the third green gem, then repeat that into the fourth green gem. Dash up to activate the heart above, then dash right into the fifth green gem. Dash up again to activate this heart, then dash right into the sixth green gem. Dash up and up-right to cleat the brambles and grab onto the moving block below. Jump off of it to be flung into a green gem, then dash right to activate the heart and up-right to land on the ice block. Cross the ice blocks as they appear to reach a heart in midair and land on the moving block below. Stand near the right edge to be flung into the green gem over the solid ground ahead. Activate the heart as you run along without dashing, then perform the , [cn_x], [cn_a] trick we learned at the beginning of the level to dash to a crumbling platform, then to a green gem floating in space. Dash up-right and fall a bit, then dash up-right into the heart to finish this chapter.
Finishing all C sides should unlock the achievement and I want to congratulate you on your very well-earned achievement and probably the completion of an amazing game. Until next time, Game On!

C-Sides will unlock after successfully completing all eight B-Sides. C-Sides are very short chapters, but very difficult. If you are not brave enough you can always enable Assist Mode.
'C-sides' are even more challenging, but much shorter, variants of each chapter, unlocked all at once when you complete the final B-side. Complete all C-sides and you'll earn this trophy.
With credit to YouTube user The Triple S League, a video walkthrough for all of the C-sides can be found in the playlist here.

To avoid confusion, I’ll explain “B” is only in the Russian version of the game; in the English version these levels are called “C”. In general, to get this trophy you need to go through the main company and find all the cassettes there. Then go through version "B" of all levels. After this, version “B” will appear for all levels, of course they all also need to be completed.
