EDIT: There are reports that this achievement is not unlocking properly for users who don't have the DLC (because there are additional gadgets in the DLC). The developers have stated on Twitter that this will be fixed in an upcoming patch.

There are six gadgets to unlock in Chariot. Not to be confused with upgrades for the chariot itself, each player can select a gadget prior to each level. To unlock a gadget in the store, its blueprint must be found in a level first.
The Peg gadget has blueprints in levels 1-2, 3-2, and 4-1.
The Canary gadget has blueprints in levels 1-4, 2-3, and 3-5.
The Sprint gadget has blueprints in levels 2-1, 4-2, and 5-1.
The Repulsor gadget has blueprints in levels 2-4, 3-4, and 4-4.
The Slowdown gadget has blueprints in levels 3-1, 4-3, and 5-2.
The Attractor gadget has blueprints in levels 3-3, 4-5, and 5-3.
So you can get this achievement after level 3-3 at the earliest.

Thought I'd mention this is glitched negatively. So if you're like me and have all gadgets but no chieve, don't be too sad, you're not alone.
For info the last gadget I purchased was Sprint. At the time I add all others at level 2 except Peg at level 3. So just to be safe, don't get in the exact same configuration.
Although I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a bug introduced by the recent DLC that added new gadgets...

This achievement is of course unmissable and can be achieved pretty easily
There is a good explanation of what to do on xboxachievements.org by Bare Bum Cheeks:
"There are a total of 6 gadgets. Gadgets can be acquired in the shop. Not to be confused with chariot upgrades, gadgets are on the top row. In order to unlock gadgets, you must find blueprints that are hidden in each map. At the menu, if you click on any given map, you be able to see how many blueprints, skulls and alternate exits you have found for that map. Basically, while completing maps, make sure you look in every possible place, instead of just following the arrows."
This may sound trivial but the last part of this description is really what did the trick for me. Just DO NOT follow the arrows in each level. If you just go in to the opposite direction each time and check your map now and then you will get this achievement without even trying for real.
Personally I unlocked it before I started the mission 5-1. But I had played some of the levels several times using different entries and going to places I missed the first time. So you should get this achievement before the above stage as well

@ Sangriaz hey, I appreciate your opinion, so no hard feelings from my side for the negative vote. My intention for this solution was to just give a general overview of what you have to face if you want to get this. True some pictures of the maps or lists would be more helpful but there is so few material for this game that I could not google something which I could simply use for this solution. Personally, I sadly don't have the time to create all that stuff myself, so I simply hope that the solution in this form helps some people. A more detailed guide is a thing for someone else I suppose ;-)
But just to give you my personal opinion: as I said in the guide, I think you just can't miss the gadgets if you do go through the levels. All of them are on the routes you have to take anyway. Thats why I thought it would be ok to write this solution the way it is now.

I voted negative because this achievement is most definitely missable if you are just playing the game without trying to find skulls or scrolls. List or pics of what level the gadgets are located would be helpful as well. As of now this solution just basically says "go through levels finding gadgets and you will eventually unlock it" which does not help in anyway to unlock this achievement.

At the level select screen, press 
to get to the shop. This will allow you to purchase upgrades.
