Gloves are the primary way to perform elemental attacks toward this achievement. When examining a glove, below the Strength and Defense stats will potentially be one of the elements you'll need to complete this achievement with a random percentage after it. For example, a glove stating "Fire: 12%" has a fire elemental attack with a 12% chance of the enemy bursting into flames.
The glove elements are:
Poison: enemies throw up when they die;
Fire/dark fire: corpse turns black and burns;
Acid: skin melts off with a bubbling sound effect ("melt" requirement);
Thunder: skin is burned off with an electric buzzing sound ("shock" requirement);
Frost: enemy turns blue and makes a shatter sound when punched ("shatter" requirement).
The enemy must die by the obvious elemental damage as outlined above. Simply having the glove equipped and then killing an enemy with it does not contribute an elemental kill toward this achievement.
As for the "explode" requirement, there are no gloves with that effect but the grenades you'll find littered about the game will help you out there. If you need a specific location for some grenades, Art Street has tons of them on the movie theater screen (where the blockade of bombed-out cars is.)
Frost seems to be the rarest (at least in my experience) and is probably the only element you're missing if you routinely equip stronger gloves over the course of the campaign. Fortunately, Kelly's Evil Eye is a frost-based attack and counts toward this element (which is the very first tattoo you come across right at the beginning of the game). It's also been reported that the Lich version of Lester begins the game with an icy riff anar-chi attack, which counts the same as Kelly's evil eye toward a frost kill. Conversely, experiments with all elemental relics (acid thrown objects, poison grabs, electric throws, etc.) seem to indicate that none of them will help you out with this achievement.
These also do not need to be accomplished all in the same playthrough or all with the same character. If you finished a playthrough and still do not have this achievement, chances are good that the first enemy you shatter with Kelly's Evil Eye will net you this achievement.

Where did you manage to find something with the frost affect after?
Nicely detailed guide by the way.

The frost effect glove was a completely random drop by something like the third or fourth enemy I killed at the very beginning of my Chaos playthrough. I was checking the clothes shops all the time before I found it (and for a little bit after) and it just seems like frost is the scarcest element for some reason.

Hmm I can't get this to unlock, I've used relic for poison, burn, acid, thunder, grenades for explosion, and Kelly frost for frost.

I'm getting conflicting reports about whether non-glove element kills count, but I'm starting to lean toward not. The only way to get explosive kills is with grenades so I'm unsure why they would make an achievement to use five glove elements and then get a random kill with an explosive.
Have you seen an enemy die by each element? Throwing up when poisoned, shattering from frost, etc.?
By Mobius Evalon on 30 Jun 2014 01:57
Mobius, I can confirm gloves equipment only works, relics don't.

I've had others try the extra ways, such as throwing enemies into the electrical poles on Art Street, but they had received no credit for an electrical kill until they equipped gloves with a thunder effect (then immediately received the achievement). I get the feeling that Kelly's Evil Eye may be the only thing that counts besides gloves.

Maybe good include in your guide:
- Fire gloves: Arts & Crafts & Shirts & Hats (Bogomart)
- Electric gloves: Arts & Crafts & Shirts & Hats (Bogomart)
- Acid: Sasquatch Museum (Sasquatch Museum)
- Poison: Sasquatch Museum (Sasquatch Museum)
These locations are not guaranteed, but I did buy all of them there the first time I spotted them. Enemies need to die from the element to make it count. Explosions are done with grenades and Shatter is with Kelly's Evil Eye (just like you mentioned).

Shatter can be done with gloves, that it how I did it.

Just got it using Kelly for the frost effect (even thought I used Charlie for all the other ones
) !
You just have to use "Evil Eye" until your opponent is about to die (he can't die from it), then just punch him. Achievement unlocked ^^
That was my last one, great game !

I believe I killed at least 1 enemy with each of the attack types and achievement not unlocking. Any idea why this might be?
By Sangriaz on 27 Jul 2014 16:05
Kelly's first tattoo did it for me. Thanks.

I was having trouble with this also, I figured all I needed was to use acid on some one...bought some gloves with 4% thunder %2 acid and watched a combined animation of things dying with both effects, still nothing. Happened on some plain %4 acid gloves and when I got the kill the achievement unlocked, looks like it has to be done with a single element at a time..

I used the Lich version of Lester for the Frost kill, which was the last type of kill I needed to unlock the achievement. He even begins the game with the Icy Riff Anar-Chi attack, so there's no need to get any tattoos. If you already have the "I Have an Army" achievement (where you unlock alternate versions of the band members), then this is another option.
By Firdaus II on 03 Mar 2015 10:17
I already can't recall how you go about unlocking alternate bands, but I do remember it was a random set out of 4-5 total. I never played with the alternate set I unlocked though, so it's good to know that there are other ways to get a frost attack.

There's a relic called Crystal Syringe. If you hold an enemy with
it will do poison damage. Just hold him many times until he dies. You will see him vomit.

All of the experiments by myself and others have found that no relics contribute to this achievement. It's been a while since I've played so I can no longer remember their names or effects, but I do remember that a lot of people who tried them did not have the achievement unlock until they equipped gloves with the necessary element. It's been discussed a little in previous comments.

5 years later I finally got this! Last one for me was acid. I think the problem I had was I was killing them before the element gloves were. I needed to punch them till they were almost dead and let the element finish them off. It looked like the acid was killing them cause of how the body looked after it died but when I finally got it I saw what I was doing wrong. Grr.

Played through most of the game with Lester and kept upgrading my gloves without paying much attention to which elements I was using. Today I started using Kelly and bought her freeze ability first. The first time I used it, the achievement popped, so it counts AND indicates that they don't all have to be done on the same character (Kelly doesn't even have gloves yet...). I would also assume that the sections where you flip a switch to electrify the water count for shock, red barrels should count for fire (enemies catch on fire after exploding one near them) and the green barrels should count for acid (could comes up after the barrel explodes, melts off enemy's skin). I could be wrong...it's possible that I managed to just randomly cycle every other elemental effect on gloves while not paying any attention to this, but Kelly's frost definitely did the trick.
By Kez001 on 03 Jul 2014 17:14
The achievement didn't unlock for me until the enemy died by the element. Kelly and her freeze ability worked a treat. Great guide +1

Each enemy died by the elemental effect? If you use e.g. a fire glove, the enemy must ignite and die in flames because simply killing an enemy with fire gloves equipped does not count.
If you're sure you've seen them all die by elemental effect then you have to still be missing one. Frost always seems to be the culprit.
