How to unlock the Mere Mortal achievement in Chasm - Definitive Guide

First off, the Mortal setting/mode is unlocked by completing the game in either the normal or hard difficulty. As such, I would suggest knocking out the hard playthrough first to reduce the number of runs necessary.

After it’s been unlocked, just select the Mortal setting on a new game.

Important - playing as a mortal means permadeath, which is why I suggest doing the hard run first. This achievement can be earned on easy.

Tip #1 - Save often! This may seem obvious, but this allows you to quit out any time you feel you’re in a dire situation without losing much game time.

Tip #2 - If you’re really feeling nervous about your success and are fine with putting in a little extra work, you can save your game on an external device (either a USB or hard drive.)

I can't actually find this answer anywhere. When you say perma death, does that mean it auto deletes your save file? When you talk about backing up to a USB, couldn't you also just make a copy of the save within the game? Or would it auto delete all save files linked to that playthrough instance??

StarlinX I don’t remember the exact method for saving on an external device. Sorry I can’t be of greater help that way. However, permadeath means that, upon dying in mortal mode, the game immediately saves and blocks the user from that save file. This is denoted by a red “x” over the file icon and a bold “DEAD” written across the save’s stats. It even affects any copies of that save file forcing the player to start the game over.

If you die, can your hard quit the game at the “GAME OVER” screen wo it saving?

VALObranded If you’re fortunate enough that it doesn’t sync with your cloud save, you may be able to salvage it by dashboarding and deleting the local save. The loss of a little game time would be significantly better than the loss of an entire save. The game saves as soon as the death animation starts; I double checked yesterday

You have to turn mortal mode on at the start of a new save file, and it cannot be changed afterwards.

Mortal mode unlocks after finishing the game once on at least normal difficulty. Credit goes to Marty84 for discovering this. Complete a fresh run on easy difficulty with mortal mode activated. If you die, your save is deleted and you have to start over. Back up your save to the cloud (PS Plus) or to a USB stick from time to time in order to keep your progress.

Permanent death mode. If you die, then you have to start from the very beginning. Unlocks after beating the game on normal and hard.
In fact, there’s nothing wrong with it - we start at the easiest level and quickly go through the game (after the first playthrough, it’s like an easy walk). And in a critical situation, go to the menu and load the save.

You can play it safe by copying the save to a flash drive. If you simply make a copy of the passage in another slot, then after death all copies of this passage will be unavailable.
I would like to note that by selling not even everything unnecessary, I managed to accumulate more than 7k gold, and during the last 2 battles with bosses not a single elixir was used because the food found during the game was enough. So the miner’s quest and the need to go through the arena to rescue him first is a waste of time.

To pass it is recommended:
1) kill boss #2 without damage. This will give us a chest piece with a chance of 100% damage absorption. With it, your passage through Mortal will be much calmer.
2) Select the Mage class. By the third Biome, you will be able to do more damage with magic daggers than a swordsman by the end of the game. To pass the last 2 bosses, it is recommended to upgrade throwing axes (they will be especially useful on the boss Ulak).
3) Don't take risks. If there is little HP left, drink a potion or exit to the menu and return to the save point.
4) Complete the miner and gambler quest. The first one will give you 500 gold to buy healing potions, the other will give you a chance to farm infinite gold to buy the same potions.
