How to unlock the Checkmate achievement in Chess Ultra - Definitive Guide
Easiest way to achieve this is to load up a game on Novice vs the AI. Then, make sure to checkmate your opponent, and not stalemate to get this achievement.
If you do stalemate (thus drawing), you will unlock the Stalemate achievement instead

If you're new at chess, there's little I can do in this guide to teach you how to win a game. I played A.I. and a friend who was better than me and it took me 3 hours to win a game. Though I'm very out of practice.
If you want to win a game to feel good or to get the achievement, just create a single-player game vs. the easiest A.I. option and you're sure to win. Even if you fail on your first game (get used to it), just keep going at it. Much like games in the Roguelike genre, you're going to lose/fail a LOT. But that's fine, you reset the board and go for another game. The goal here is to try to learn something from each failure. When the A.I. beats you, pay attention to the moves they make and try to implement some of those strategies into your own gameplay.

Simply win a match. It’s easiest to play against the AI Novice. If you’re really really bad at chess though, simply use www.nextchessmove.com to simulate the game for you.
