How to unlock the Tournament Master achievement in Chess Ultra - Definitive Guide

In my solution here:
Chess UltraTournament ChampionThe Tournament Champion achievement in Chess Ultra worth 275 pointsWin a 32 player tournament
I discussed how to do the 32-player achievement. This isn't nearly as involved, but if you have the means, doing that first will get you an achievement and progress towards this.

But really, this one is a piece of cake compared to that. First of all, you're doing 4-player tournaments, not 32. 3 alts is very manageable. So, assuming you have 3 alts, here's what you need to do. (Mostly stolen from my other solution.)

This achievement requires you to be really really REALLY good at chess, because not only will you be up against 5 people in a row who really like chess (like me), but worse, you'll be up against THEIR CHESS ENGINES. So you neither need to be really really REALLY good at chess, or you need to be able to make friends super easily. (I can do that, too.)

OR...

You can do it by yourself.

[crickets]

Yes, you can, in fact, solo boost this on one console. However, it may not be how you're thinking.

If you don't have 3 alt accounts lying around, well, that's not all that weird, actually. Make some email accounts at Gmail or Hotmail or pickyourfavoriteemailsite.com. Then register them on Xbox.com or on the console.

You should be friends with these newly minted fake-people so that you can do the next part, which involves you and your new friends joining 4-person tournaments that you set up and fill with these 3 pseudo-individuals. You also should note that the game needs to know that these not-quite-alive beings have access to the game, so you should have them play the game a little. I had all my critters run a pawn forward against the Novice AI and take a knight that they usually just left there. Now you just have to do the tournaments!

Here's the kicker... none of you has to actually play the games! A lot of the delay in this game is actually in loading the games, but once your accounts have the game on their tags, that's most of the work! So what about those accounts?

1: You can create 3 tournaments at a time, so make 4-person tournaments. Select your 3 mostly-dead-with-funky-Xbox-tags-like-TurtleSpit32 people. Make sure that at the bottom right of the screen, it says that you can't select more.

2: Log all of the tags in...and have them go to the Tournament page and delete your brand-spanking-new tournaments. Deleting the tournaments automatically forces them to resign, and their opponent wins the game. (Note that if you don't actually look at the bracket, the game may give you a friendly note that there's a server error. You probably don't have a potential opponent on the other side of the bracket yet. It's okay. Keep the tag logged in and come back to it. It'll be okay.)

3: Once an alt has logged in and deleted all of the tournaments, you need to sign in another user. Go to the main screen, press cn_Y and switch tags. You don't have to leave the game to do this.

4: Make sure that YOU ARE THE ONLY ACCOUNT THAT DOESN'T DELETE THE TOURNAMENTS. Now, that seems like common sense, but hey, I'm not judging here.

5: You actually do need to go back and look at the Tournament page for your achievement to pop. And it will, with an obscenely low % of people who have this. Because none of them has 32 extra tags lying around, do they?

Quitting out works wonders... I went from 5 to 20 tournaments in 10 minutes. Remember not to play the games, because loading the games takes more time.

Hope this helps! toast

This was the most lively and entertaining solution I have ever read on Trueachievements. Love it!

10 out of 10 for communication style and building a narrative throughout the solution!

I found an even faster way.

Once you create 3 tournaments and have your alts all leave, go back to the tournament screen with your main and make sure you get progress on the achievement tracker. Then once that's done, go to the main menu, settings, disable crossplay. Go back to the tournament screen, and you tournaments will be gone.

Go back to the settings screen, re-enable crossplay, and go back to the tournament screen. Your tournaments will be back. Go back in each of them and you should get progress on the tracker. Rinse and repeat until you get to 20.

Shinnizle's strategy actually works! You can get this in a couple of minutes after setting up all of the alternative accounts.

Shinnizle's strategy on turning off cross play and then turning it back on works still as of 11/04/2023. I did sometimes have to 'watch replay' for the tracker to move though.

Thanks Shinnizle.
Please add this to the solution.

Thanks for this. Just an FYI for anyone reading this after me, I had a heck of a time with the tracker working right. It froze multiple times. I easily did 30+ tournaments before it popped. I froze at 70% and did 12 tournaments before the achievement suddenly tracked properly. If anyone else runs into that problem, I recommend quitting the tourneys with your other 3 accounts like normal, but quitting out of the game entirely before switching to your main. Sign in to only your main at the Home screen, relaunch the game, then view the tournaments. That's what ultimately unfroze the tracker for me, so maybe thatll help someone else too.

Join a lot of tournaments with the lowest time limit possible.

Make sure the tournaments are 4 people only, so you can quickly finish them.

Fill the queue and for any tournament where you're not first, you'll want to leave and wait a bit before queuing again. If you're the second to make the move, the timer will start to count as soon as you've made it, no matter if your opponent is in the game.

Wait a few minutes, claim the win, and hope you'll be 2nd to move in the 2nd match as well. If that's the case, you win that as well, otherwise, just hope you'll be at the PC when the opponent makes their move.

Just repeat this until you have won all of the tournaments - It might take ~2 weeks if you check it 2 times a day.

Alternatively, you can make a few alts using steam family share, and boost yourself using those. The only problem is that it is a lot more work for you, but you will finish everything in a few minutes.

For this trophy, you're going to be self-boosting utilizing 3 alternate accounts and the creation of 4 player tournaments. First you need to make 3 alternate accounts. Create emails, create some fun new PSN IDs and have them all available on your PS4. Now with each of those alternate accounts boot up Chess Ultra and play 1 challenge so the game recognizes you as a player.

Now go back to your main account (the one you're earning trophies on) and create 4 player tournaments:

Go to Tournaments, Create Tournament, Choose 4 players and Choose Friend under opponent. Now check off your three alt accounts. You're able to create a max of 3 tournaments at one time.

Sign into each of your alternate accounts, load of Chess ultra and leave the three tournaments which will forfeit the games. Do this for all three.

Once this is done, go back to your main account and sign in, boot up the game, go to your tournaments and you'll have won all three.

Rinse and repeat that process for 20 tournaments and it will unlock all three tournament win trophies.

It's best to boost with four people. Since the smallest tournament consists of 4 people. Well, it’s possible for one with 4 accounts. It will actually take longer
