How to unlock the The Snake achievement in Chime - Definitive Guide

For this achive you must make a quad that completely fills the grid from left to right, on every level.

The simplest way I found to do this is to start a free mode on a level, aim for pieces like the "5x1 line" or the "3x2 rectangle" or similar, so that you can make a perfect dual line from one side to the other.

After you have done the dual line simply start a quad by putting a piece on top or under that line (try to start at one end), after that you just need to keep placing the random pieces on the side of the quad to keep it going until you reach the far end.

tips:
- if a piece won't serve to keep the quad going, simply put it elsewhere fast and work with the next one;

- have patience, you might get the wrong pieces or even place one wrongly while trying to keep the quad;

- don't rush (since you have unlimited time to prep your game );

- you can quit the level after you made the quad

good luck ;)

do you have to go from the widest point? or just get from one side to the other... i mean you know in like stage two do you have to go from the middle across or can you go along the bottom?

I did it by the widest point, never even tried that as it seemed it wouldn't unlock achv, but I'll test it out.

Since it says 'entire width', I would think it has to be at the widest point in order to count.

Positive vote. Got it yesterday.
Why didn't I think of this approach? :P

I don't know if I buy this "quit out" method. I did it this way and no achievement.

Well, quitting was for me not a problem.
I also noticed that the achievement popped before the quad was filled or even stamped down.

This is a good solution and it helped me very much.

such a shitty waste of a guide. you cannot quit out from free mode as it does not count i tried this for every level and didnt get it:)

This still works. I did this in free mode. When I made a quad that spanned the board, I let it 'take' and then made a few more quads before exiting the game. After all five levels, the achievement popped (with a slight delay).

Yes, this does work. I think some people here that say it didn't work, should have waited for the second sweep of the line. The first one 'checks' it and then it comes back to wipe it of the field.

Worked for me but I had to run through a couple of levels twice. Make sure to play through a bit after you get it, seems like there's some sort of background autosave that isn't immediate.

I'm in the same boat as BloodwCinnamon. I found this pretty easy to do but I quit out after the quad was accepted and ended up not getting the achievement. That makes me a sad panda.

The below video is not mine (credit to YS23Aok), but shows the basic method for creating a quad that spans the entire grid.

The best way to create 'a snake' is to first place a continuous line of shapes that are 2 blocks high - be careful to not to accidently start a quad off. Once this is done, quickly move from one end to the other adding shapes to create the quad. As long as you can get your next shape in fast enough before the quad fills, you can continue growing the quad until it fills the entire width of the grid.

Do this for each of the 5 levels - to make sure the achievement progress is saved, let the level end properly - don't just quit out to the menu.

@TJ2012 - no, you don't have to 100% the stage. If it's not unlocking for you, try letting the game end rather than quitting to the menu screen.

What i did to get this was also in free mode. make a straight line across the map that is 2 grid spaces thick using the L shaped and straight ones work best. Once you have a line going the distance across just place pieces on top without leaving holes even though you are technically building the quad upward it also causes it to grow sideways as you place the pieces across the line. Really not to difficult just gotta be calm under pressure especially when they throw the zig zag piece i usually just chuck it to the top (or largest blank area).

This one is fairly easy on the first two levels without much planning. The last three required some rethinking.

I had created a "rail" that is at least two blocks high, also making sure non of them could end up as a 3x3 quad. Once completed, just fill in the third row to complete. It may take a few tries, but shouldn't be that hard.

This achievement would not pop for me using free mode, I had to use timed mode (9 minutes). Once I completed the level-wide quad on all levels in succession, the achievement immediately popped when I finished the quad on the fifth and final level.

Even though it seems most people are able to use free mode to do it, I'd still suggest just doing it in 9 minute timed mode to begin with. If you're one of the unlucky ones, you just waste like an hour doing it in free mode and have to do it in 9 minute mode anyway. Better to just save that hour and do it in timed to begin with, since it's not very hard to pull off with 9 minutes in which to do it.

You need to create one long quad from the left to the right side of the grid on each level in the game. As I suggested on "The Beast" achievement, try to only make this quad have a height of 3 cells. This makes it much easier to continue building upon.
