How to unlock the Mastery of Combat achievement in Chorus - Definitive Guide

In the final mission there will be a set of 3 enemies that keep respawning so you can farm this. Its at the begining where you have to destroy the 3 generators.
Here's some specific hints for the trickier ones:
Reckless: Get your health low and enemies will drop these frequently

Perfect Dodge: just dodge the sniper turret without killing it

Ablaze: Control 2 enemies then spear

Facing the Faceless Manifestation is a good spot to work on the perfect dodges.

Not sure if any of you all will see this, but thanks so much, I used each of your pointers to finish off this achievement, the only one left after finishing the game!

"Perfect Dodge: just dodge the sniper turret without killing it"

It's shooting like once every minute and I still need levels 3 and 4... I finished 9 other challenges in 20 minutes and got like 3 perfect dodges

"Facing the Faceless Manifestation is a good spot to work on the perfect dodges."
isn't that just solid beams, I thought it had to be the sniper like laser shots.

In the second half of the final level there will be big ships with those sniper lasers to do the perfect dodges with. I stuck to the ones at the back of the ship to not get hit a lot

The Perfect Dodge has been glitched for me and only awards me as a count of 1 for every 20 times I do this. I have reported it to the developer. I posted a video of me doing it three times and getting no credit for it. For those interested in seeing it:

In your video, you are dodging too early. Its a "Perfect Dodge" not just a dodge. When you are being tracked you are forcing them to fire at you by dodging. You MUST wait for the Targeting Orb to disappear before dodging to get a Perfect Dodge. Its not enough just to dodge.

Found another good spot. Before the Call to Chorus mission, head to Prophet's Ears HQ. Ter will give one one side mission to disable some power generators. During this mission there are a infinite number of enemies respawn that can be used to both combat and rites mastery

This one in particular is hella grindy. Finished everything else in the game but I still need hundreds of drift and boost kills even though I've done both a bunch. Solid achievement list otherwise but this is annoying.

Edit: Well, hella was a bit of an exaggeration, think I spent 2 hours just fighting the same three enemies and then dodging the turret on the demon class ship, it was still by far the worst part of what otherwise is a really fun game and completion.

To get the perfect dodge, I found an escort side mission where faceless appeared to attack you. Some of the enemies were the ones with the charged laser attack. I killed every enemy except one and then spent as long as needed dodging until I hit mastery for perfect dodges. Might take a little wandering to find such a task, but it was a lot less chaotic of an area. You could focus solely on dodging. However, that last area in the game is great to farm the other tasks. Great tip there.

Am I the only one, or is that achievement bugged?
Because that is the only one not unlocking for me despite having all combat masteries at level 5: it keeps showing 33% completition. Does anybody know the reason?
Is it because I've already beated the game and started an "old" save file to grind on?

I had the same problem with some achievements. I closed the game and opened it, but I have to do this a few times to show all the achievements I had made.

With this game being buggy I've had to restart to get any progress on achievements. But I've grinded my last challenges to rank 5 twice and restarted the game and got nothing. Anyone know how to make it click? You obviously can't save after the final checkpoint. Do I need to grind to 5 at the beginning of the last level then complete the level? Not just quit to dashboard?

Edit: can confirm if you get them all to 5, go through the gate and restart the game on the last level it'll pop

I did the dodges in the Sage mission, the ship attacks you sometimes three times in a row with its Sniping Laser and you can also grind the mine kills very easy here. Just kill every other ship except for the Sage.

I need a few perfect dodges as last mastery. I get them and all masteries show level 5. If I get a checkpoint after that and then reload or die the masteries still show level 5 but the achievement doesn't unlock. If I quit and restart the game I start at the midway checkpoint through the mission (snake dude). So as a warning, do all your grinding before going through the gate. And don't be 'clever' like me and go for the dodges with the snake (as they happen more often).

To clarify, I grinded everything except for dodges in the first part of the mission and then went to the snake phase.

Update: Thanks to bubblesmith on Reddit! I hit level 5 on all masteries again with no achievement. Reloading the game dropped them down again. I logged into cloud gaming on the gamepass app. Once loaded into the game the achievement popped. Think it needed a save sync to unlock.

Been having the game crash so much when making a manual save. Even bringing up the xbox guide once in awhile makes the game lose all input. Manage to get my last 3 masteries in the final mission but the achievement doesn't unlock. My progress has been stuck at 50%. Deleted my save and synced up with cloud save and that didn't work. Also tried the gamepass app on phone and pc app to play cloud version and nothing popped. Any other ideas?

Update: So I ended up reloading my save near the end of the game and doing my last 3 masteries again on the final mission, and it finally unlocked.

It seems the game doesn't enjoy intense farming. After farming in a mission with infinite enemy respawn ("attacked comvoy") I completed without touching the Xbox and menu/options buttons (I also did a side mission just after this one, still not touching Xbox or menu buttons) I noticed the game doesn't autosave the progress anyway. Then the game froze when I tried to save the game manually...

I finally managed to get Mastery of Rites with the comvoy defense mission and its respawning enemies.

You can farm a little so you don't corrupt the game, then abort the mission to go back to the open world: the progress is not reset so you can save the game and restart the mission to farm again. It's very long and tedious but a good way to save your progress safely.

However keep in mind that even if you're able to abort a mission, the game can still freeze when you want to manual save if you farmed too much.

Also, it doesn't work with the final mission because the abort mission option is not available in the menu.

This is why you need to have some missions still available before final mission for farming and use multiple saves to keep progress and go back according to your objectives.

Good hunting everyone!

I agree with your analysis Gaz;

When you Dodge it at the perfect moment, the game will also slow down significantly to emphasize your executive perfectness rock

Perhaps Mr. Winky didn't realise you won't get rewarded for average, only for perfection? laugh

For anyone else struggling I can confirm that if you complete a mastery, then finish the game, once you hit continue the game will load you at the point before you start the last mission and the mastery page will be as it was before you played the last mission, however you do NOT need to complete the same mastery again, the achievement popped for me while I was still lvl2 for Perfect Dodge the second time I was playing the last mission (I had reached lvl5 of Perfect Dodge on the first playthrough of the last mission).

Another place you can grind is after the first part of the last mission, once you are attacking the Demon Ship, you can focus on the medium frontline ships that have 2 turrets in front of them and explosives on their belly, only the turrets count as kill but once you destroy the turrets you can destroy the ships and a new one with 2 turrets will spawn... That's how I did the Drifter and Boosting mastery.

I was disappointed that Deep Silver set up the game to make the rites and combat mastery achievements a lot more annoying that they needed to be. I completed the main story and reverted to the earlier save but after finishing all side missions, I'm still very short on most of them and the open world encounters have almost completely dried up. That the only option is to get all the remaining levels in the final mission in one attempt where you can't save progress is ridiculous. If you miss an opportunity to level up an ability, you will have to redo all your efforts for every ability.

I tried multiple times and the only way it unlocked for me was having them all at 5 at once. You've been warned.

Just to add to Swan931 guide above:

I was having a bit of trouble with the Perfect Dodge one. If you are too I'd recommend a main mission called Free Captain Aystan and His Troops which is in Amarok (third area).

When you start the mission you are faced with a single sniping turret which you can farm for as many perfect dodges as you need. There are no other enemies around to distract you.

The technique I ended up using was to wait until the red circle (which shows you are getting targeted) goes to the middle of your ship. If you dodge exactly then you should get a perfect dodge.

Hope this helps someone.

In order for a perfect dodge to be counted, it must be done at the very last moment, focus on the moment when the circle (halo) of the laser aimed at you disappears, it is at this moment that you need to move the left stick to the right or left, and perform a roll

I’ll add a hint, perfect evasion is easy to do against a horde of faceless ones, push down a little and stick left or right at the very last moment.

If suddenly you are already going to the final mission, and you have not completed a lot of skills, including combat, then almost everything can be completed at the beginning of the final task. When you are sent to open the jump gate, shoot the generator banks in two of the three places (I left where the barriers are on the left), and when the bulk of the enemies are gone, three starships will endlessly respawn. I finished off Drift and Acceleration there in 30 minutes. Further on the mission, where you will need to destroy a large cruiser, starships will fly around it and release mines (the main thing is not to accidentally blow them up)

The easiest way to achieve perfect evasion to level five is in the “Tarris Laboratory” location when you visit again, when you collect the tablets according to the story. After going through the labyrinth of spatial gates and reaching the tablet, the battle with the elder Mechem will begin. The main thing is not to shoot at him, otherwise the second phase will begin and it will be less comfortable to dodge. In the first phase, he practically does not shoot and tries to capture you with his beam. We dodge at the last moment, as in the video on the tip above.
