How to unlock the The Explorer achievement in Cities: Skylines II - Definitive Guide
In Cities: Skylines II, the "The Explorer" achievements require you to reach certain milestones in your city's development then expand your city by buying 50 map tiles.
You can get this achievement as your first in less than 5 minutes. This guide will also help you get the following achievements :

You can get this achievement as your first in less than 5 minutes. This guide will also help you get the following achievements :
The Royal Flush achievement in Cities: Skylines II (Windows) worth 40 pointsReach enough milestones to unlock all city services in a single city.
The Everything the Light Touches achievement in Cities: Skylines II (Windows) worth 118 pointsUnlock 150 map tiles in a single city.
Obviously, you will unlock this naturally but you can speed up this achievement :
How do you unlock new map tiles and milestone?
- Gain XP: In Cities: Skylines II, you gain expansion points (XP) by building roads, placing amenities, generating energy, and connecting grids. You can also gain passive XP points from Population and Happiness metrics every 1.5 in-game hours.
- Unlock Milestones: As you gain XP, you'll reach milestones in your city's development. There are 20 milestones in total, broken up into 5 larger milestones: Grand Village, Big Town, Large City, Thriving Metropolis, and Megalopolis.
- Unlock map tiles: Each milestone you reach will unlock expansion permits, but you will also get a lot of money (600K,700K,…), increase loan limit and new city services.
- To achieve the "The Explorer" achievement, you need to reach milestones 8 : Big town to unlock 50 expansion permits.
- Purchase map tiles: Click on the bottom left button and select the map tiles you want to buy. If you don't have enough money, you can take a loan in the economy panel.
- You can start a new game and build many “small coal power plant” (300 xp for $880K), you can reach milestone 3 before getting out of money.
- Once done, just bulldoze all of them to get a $1.5M refund, go to the development panel by clicking on the bottom left “3 Large Village”, then select garbage management (5th icon) and unlock the “recycling center”.
- Build the recycling center “recycling center” (2,000 XP for $880K) and bulldoze it each time you get out of money until you reach lvl 8.
- Borrow the maximum loan in the economy tab and purchase 50 map tiles.

This doesn't work any more as of November 2024, buldozing the power plants doesn't get anywhere close to 1.5mil, only got me 300k :(.
