Relics are items that provide additional random abilities, and are unlocked after the following prerequisites have occurred:

1) You have ascended at least once (See the World Traveler achievement)
2) After ascending, you have reached the 99th Zone (Bloodlands Lvl 99), right before Omeet at Zone 100
3) You find and kill the 'Relic Ooze' monster

Per the community wiki page for Relics, the Relic Ooze will be the very first monster of a Zone if it will appear at all in that Zone. In addition, there is a range of zones it can appear at, depending on your starting zone for a new ascension and the highest zone you've ever been in all your previous ascensions. Generally, this should only affect you if you've progressed past Zone 150 in your very first run without ever ascending. Otherwise, Zone 99 should have your very first relic.

Upon receiving your first relic, you will unlock this achievement.

Meanwhile, after getting your relic and achievement, several more things will occur:
1) A new tab (a chest icon) will appear on the right side of the screen, holding information on relics and forge cores
2) A new store option will appear, selling three relics for 40 Rubies
3) No more Relic Oozes will appear in the current Ascension

To earn more relics, you can either pay the 40 Rubies for a set of three, or perform another Ascension and work your way back up to Zone/Lvl 99 to find another Relic Ooze monster.

Currently, Forge Cores are used to upgrade your relics in the newest version (now works on android by long pressing on a relic). You can get Forge Cores by salvaging Relics. The amount of Forge Cores you receive depends on the level and rarity of the Relic(s) salvaged.
Before salvaging, always check if the cost of upgrading junk relics is less than the amount their value increases when upgraded. Most relics can be upgraded at least once or twice before salvaging to produce a net gain of forge cores.
All relics in your junk pile will be salvaged after ascension.

I'm a little confused, my highest round was 100 (didn't beat omeet) and acended and got to round 99 and didnt find a relic, can anyone guess what roughly what round i would get it at?

Now that I've gotten a MUCH higher Highest Zone Ever, I've been hitting relic slimes at later zones. I think one was at zone 140, whereas my HZE was around 270. And it was a 'level 7' relic. Only benefit was having two abilities instead of one, and it replaced another relic with an equal ability at level 1 (but a net of an extra ability).

Unsure if they'll have an update to do something with the Forge Cores. On the other hand, the other updates apparently had even more Heroes, making the Hire Them All achievement much harder.

I just got my first relic after my first ascension in zone 69. :O
(my current farming zone as I've not defeated the zone 70 boss yet)

You can get relics from a mercenary, not sure why no one else hasn't caught on yet but you don't need to find a special enemy to get relics. Also the only requirement is that you need to ascend once, none of that other crap.

So, it looks like there's definitely some range once you get your HZE up. And from my recent experiences, you'll want to get a higher HZE so that you can get your Relic Ooze at a higher Zone. Once you get past several Zones before encountering the Relic Ooze, the level of the resulting relic rises as well. And higher level relics either have multipliers to the bonus, multiple different bonuses, and even a combination of the two (high values for multiple bonuses).

Looking over the Wiki page for this, and if I'm doing the math right, it is supposed to be from Zone 99 up to 2/3rds of your 'Highest Zone Ever (seen on the Stats tab). I mention the 150 above, because 2/3rds of that is 100. And you don't get to fight them on 'Primal Levels' (every 100 zones, or Centennial bosses per the Achievement descriptions). So, it's possible for the MAX Zone to be below the MIN Zone, and I'm guessing it'll just constrain to that range.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has:
1) Ascended
2) Gotten past Zone 99 after Ascending
3) Highest Zone Ever is below 147 (Should be much below)
4) Did not get a relic from Zone 99 or a few zones after it.

I'm thinking that it shouldn't be missable, that there's a 100% chance to get a relic if you work through the possible range of Zones. But if someone didn't get it, then that means a person would have to go through yet another Ascension to get this achievement. Meanwhile, I've gotten two relics out of two post-ascension runs, so that's 100% so far.

At this point, it looks like folks should get their first relic after the first ascension and on or near Zone 99, excluding boss zones.

I have been getting relics above Zone 300 sometimes, with HZE above 700. Three, sometimes four abilities on them, or just one with a very nice +. Problem is randomness, with lots of plus seconds to skills I do not use. Right now, I am personally focusing on items with skills for ancients that have max levels, like boss health and hero hire costs and primal appear chance.
