How to unlock the My Beard is Impenetrable achievement in Cloudberry Kingdom - Definitive Guide

This achievement would be fairly difficult but there's a nice trick that makes it quite easy. I will detail the steps below:

1) Make a new save file on either HDD, USB, or cloud storage. This is so that the statistics will show 0 deaths (you can check overall statistics while in pause menu of a level).

2) Choose Play Game > Story Mode and select character (character customization doesn't affect gameplay so choose what you want).

3) Choose Chapter 1, The Sea.

4) You will need to beat Chapter 1 (which consists of 40 levels) without dying to get the achievement so start making your way through the levels.

5) If you happen to die, don't panic! Here's where the trick comes into play. If and when you die, press start to pause. Now press the guide button on the controller, then X to sign out, and click Yes to confirm.

6) Now sign back in and be sure to pick the same storage device that your new save is on. (What I mean by "new" save is the 0 death one, not a previous save that may have death statistics on it).

7) Select Story Mode and this time you will see "Continue". Do that and you should be at the level you made it to before you died. Your statistics should show 0 deaths. Basically, the game saves progress when beating a level OR when you quit out of pause menu. As long as you only hit pause and then sign out, your death won't be saved and this is why the trick works.

8) Keep repeating these steps in order to beat Chapter 1 without dying. Upon continuing to Chapter 2, the achievement will unlock! And there you go... an easy method for this otherwise hard achievement the normal way!

Just a question, but I'm almost done Chapter 6 in the story, and I only JUST figured out that you can use power-ups (though I'm going to try to beat the game without 'em). The question is simple: Can you use power-ups to help you with this achievement? Something tells me that I'd get a little annoyed with heading to the dashboard every 20-30 seconds haha laugh

Any reason you chose signing out rather than dashboarding?

Faster for me - since my dashboard takes a long time to load since I have so many XBLA games on my HDD - but either method works fine.

Oh and Link I am pretty sure you can use powerups but I don't remember using any.

Works like a charm. I did beat Chapter 1 without dying, twice, but achievement didn't pop up. Then I tried this solution and it worked :D

I beat chapter 1 without dying and this didn't pop... I will try it your way as JaniFromHell did as it seemed to work for them.

Yeah I went through the whole chapter without dying 5 times and no pop. Deleted save file tried again and it popped 1st time. Basically you need a fresh file for it to pop... fail developers glitch,

This is what I did...

... play the game and try to stay alive for the first 40 levels (chapter one). When you are falling down or hitting some obstacles, immediatley pause the game and dashboard out. You can then restart the game and continue story mode with no deaths at all (you can check your stats to be sure). If you want, you can also copy your save file to a USB to be on the safe side.

*Important* Do not just pause the game and leave to the title menu, this will autosave your stats, thus affecting your stats on deaths.

With this method the achievement popped up for me. Hope this helps ;)

If there is anything I forgot, let me know. Thanks!

Important - Apparently like the achievement suggests you need to have your beard shown during the chapter completion, i just did the first chapter without dying and i did not get the achievement, my assumption is that since i had my beard hidden by the paper bag hat it didn't trigger.

It did not pop for me either but I had one showing. Not sure why but this achievement appears glitchy.

What does a beard have to do with not dying?

Chapter one is probably your best bet for this. It's 40 levels, however none of them are particularly difficult. Story levels are static, so they'll always be the same. If you have trouble with specific levels, feel free to use powerups to aid you. Completely ignore coins when going for this. Going for them can get you killed and ruin your attempt for this achievement.

This achievement is glitchy. In order to do this, you have to have no deaths recorded in the chapter - meaning you have to get the achievement the first time you go through a chapter. So if you miss this achievement on your first attempt (which you probably will - you'll still be learning the game at this point), migrate your save to a removable storage device (such as a flash drive), create a new save on your hard drive, and try again.

Glitched

The easiest chapter to do this on is Chapter 1: The Seas. However, this trophy is glitched because when you complete the chapter without dying, it may not pop. There are 2 workarounds for this as detailed below. The second method is simpler but it requires you to back up your save files and delete them. You can redownload them once you earn the trophy.

1. Try to complete the chapter without dying and collecting all the gems on every tenth level; in this case, levels 10, 20, 30, and 40. If the trophy still doesn’t pop after doing this then refer to step 2.

2. Quit the game and back up your save file to a USB stick (or if you are a Playstation Plus subscriber, you can upload the save file to the cloud). Once you have your file backed up, delete it from your PS3. Now start the game back up and attempt the trophy - no need to collect all the gems. If you die, simply quit to the XMB and reload the game. Thanks to ThanatosNinja2 for this tip.

Since essentially no one who plays this game will go for this trophy as their first, their death counter will be greater than zero when they eventually attempt to do it. The glitch is believed to be caused by the fact that the player's death counter will be greater than zero when going for the trophy, therefore the game thinks you have died on the chapter even though you may have not.

ThanatosNinja2 provided an additional tip that makes this trophy considerably easier:

If you know you mistimed a jump and are going to die, you can quickly press and buy the AI demo power-up, as doing this doesn't count as dying and Bob gets placed back at the beginning of the level safe and sound.

Also note that you must select "Continue" after you complete the last level without dying. Otherwise your progress will be negated and if you'll have to do it all over again.

When passing a chapter (40 levels) without deaths, but having a death count of any number other than zero, the trophy may not fall out, so we make sure that there is zero there: we load the save into the cloud/on a flash drive, delete the save from the console, start a new game, go through the first 40 levels in the Tale without deaths (so that the “Statistics” menu has zero in the deaths section) and we get a trophy, it’s also better to collect all the crystals at every 10, 20, 30, 40 levels, just in case. In case of death, we repeat the procedure from the point deleting a save. After receiving the trophy, unload the isocloud save and continue playing.
