How to unlock the Karate is for Defense achievement in Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues - Definitive Guide
Parrying an attack is done by standing still and holding as an opponent attacks you. If you're walking in any direction and hit , you will almost always dodge roll instead. If you are too close to the enemy or facing the opposite direction of the attack, you'll block it and take much less damage than normal, possibly no damage at all. If you're facing the enemy and are a pace or two away, a successful parry should grab the attacker and either slam them on the ground a few times or send them flying towards the screen. Throwing an opponent towards the screen unlocks the Turtles Style achievement:
Most enemies in the game have some form of harder hitting wind up attack they perform, indicated by them turning red just before unleashing it. This is by far much easier to look for, especially as you learn the timing for each enemy and when to parry. The parry itself will hold in place for a few seconds, so there's a little bit of wiggle room there if you parry a little too early. If you feel like your parry is going to end before the attack happens, you can use the aforementioned dodge roll (left stick in any desired direction and ) to get out of trouble. I recommend going either north or south as some enemy attacks have deceptively long ranges and it's better to know you're out of the way rather than have to start your streak over.
I also recommend doing this on any of the smaller, earlier missions where the enemies are less aggressive. I personally used the Addison St. mission as the enemy variety is limited to skeletons, security guards, and goons. As long as you are patient and don't take risks, you should be able to get this with a single pass through the level.
In addition, there is a Karate Challenge associated with finishing any mission with only parries and grabs, so if you do get hit and you don't think you'll be able to finish the streak, don't quit out right away. Completing that challenge will earn progress towards unlocking the Black Belt achievement:
