How to unlock the Purple Belt achievement in Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues - Definitive Guide
I want to preface this by saying I HIGHLY recommend making a checklist of all challenges on all belts that you can refer back to outside the dojo. If you're going for a full completion, you'll end up replaying most levels to get S rank for a collectible anyway, but keeping a reference handy will cut down on additional run throughs.
Karate Challenges are specific goals that, as you complete them, will give you coins towards upgrading your characters. At the end of each level, you'll be taken back to your dojo where you can check on your progress and claim any finished challenges.
If you play through both campaigns on a single save, any progress from the first campaign will transfer over to the second campaign. Some of the Challenges are dojo-specific, and your first play through will lock out after you beat the final boss, so refer back to the list to make sure you don't miss anything. The list of challenges for this belt are as follows:
A+ Parenting - Defeat 3 Posh Moms with Johnny (Cobra Kai)
(Posh Moms are usually found in the same area as the Preppy Kid enemies. They will also call in additional Preppy Kids to assist them in combat. The Shopping Mall is a good place to find them but they show up in most other levels on a regular basis.)
Past Nightmare - Finish a Skeleton Lord with Daniel (Miyagi-Do)
(Skeleton Lords are white Skeleton enemies that are twice the size of the normal Skeleton enemies. The La Maida St level has a Skeleton Lord as it's final boss. If you miss that one, however, there are several others scattered through varied levels to defeat.)
Falling Down - Finish a Suited Man with a Baseball Bat or similar weapon
(Suited Men are enemies in a vest and tie that carry a briefcase - most are named Carlos. They are very resilient to normal punch and kick attacks, but the good news here is that you're going to tee off on them with a hand weapon instead. Baseball bats, golf clubs, guitars, snow shovels, or any other weapon that you can carry and swing multiple times will count towards the Challenge when you land the final blow with one.)
Size Doesn't Matter - Finish Derek with a Baseball Bat or similar weapon
(Derek is the miniboss on the first level. Conveniently enough, there is a golf club in the area where you confront him. Rough him up a bit until he's on his final life bar, then pick up the golf club and let him have it.)
Who's Rhea Now? - Defeat Brucks with Miguel (Cobra Kai)
(Brucks is the miniboss on the Smitty's Diner level. You can attack him with any character, but the final blow must be landed by Miguel.)
Precision Counter - Finish Xander with a Parry
(Xander is the miniboss on the All Valley Tournament Arena level. You can practice parrying his attacks throughout this fight to get the timing down. Once you do, attack him until he has about half of his last life bar left, then parry all of his attacks until he's finished.)
Come Here, Mate - Finish Graham with an Ultimate Attack
(Graham is the miniboss on the 5th Avenue Bar level. If you get to him and don't have an Ultimate ready to go, you can beat on his infinite stream of lackeys until you build up your Ultimate meter. Once you're ready, attack Graham until he has less than half his last life bar, then hit him with your Ultimate (+). Be sure you are familiar with each character's Ultimate Attack to avoid missing the mark.)
I Kick Too - Finish Shawn with a Special or Skill Kick
(Shawn is the miniboss of the Shopping Mall level. Finish with him any character by using either their Dojo (+) or Personal (+) Kick Skill.)
Who's a Badass Now? - Finish Chris/Mitch with a Dojo Skill
(Depending on which dojo you're playing as, you will find either Chris or Mitch as the miniboss of the West Valley High School level. Finish with any Dojo skill by holding down and pressing either , , , or when his health is low. If you want to play it safe, you can keep hitting him with these Skills as they cooldown between other attacks.)
Grow Up! - Finish Bert/Nathanial with Hawk/Demetri
(Depending on which dojo you're playing as, you'll find either Bert or Nathanial as the miniboss of the Weinburg TV Studios level. As long as you land the final blow with Hawk (Cobra Kai) or Demetri (Miyagi-Do) you'll get this.)
Cruzader - Finish Cruz with a Special Punch
(Cruz is the final boss of the Mini Golf and Arcade level. I believe you start with the Dojo Punch Skill (+) unlocked and one, if not both, of your starting characters may also start with their Personal Punch Skill (+) unlocked as well. Either of these will work as the final blow on Cruz to clear this Challenge.
Completing this Challenge will also unlock its corresponding achievement:)
Can't Touch Me 3 - Beat Trey without taking Damage
(Trey is the final boss of the Oaks at the Beach Club level. The good news is that you don't have to finish the entire level with no damage, just the final boss section. You should be presented with two large and two medium food items just before the boss fight to prep you for it. Once the boss section begins, you cannot take damage from ANY enemy or this Challenge is forfeit. If you take a hit, you must restart the level from the map screen as the Replay from Checkpoint or Restart Level options will not negate any hits taken in the final boss section.
There are a few baseball bats or other hand weapons laying in this area when you arrive. Grab one ASAP and wail on Trey to take as much health from him as possible before he starts calling in backup. At a certain point, Cruz will show up as well to help his buddy. Make liberal use of the dodge roll (left stick and ) and lean heavily on your Dojo and Personal Skills to both damage Trey faster and take advantage of the second or two of invincibility those attack animations provide. Do your best to focus on Trey as when he dies, the rest of the enemies will die with him.)
Kyler - Smack Kyler's face into the Floor
(Kyler is the final boss of the Smitty's Diner level. Knock him onto his stomach, stand over his torso area, press then mash . As a boss, Kyler will get up faster than your garden variety enemy, so you'll need to almost need to be right on top of him once he's down to take advantage. I found that when successfully parrying his charged attack (he'll glow red beforehand, counter by hitting ) the resulting throw left him backside up.
There's no option from the Pause menu to restart from checkpoint, so if you find you're getting too close to defeating Kyler, allow all your players to be knocked out. You'll get the option to Replay from Checkpoint, which should start you again immediately before the boss fight.
Completing this Challenge will also unlock the You kiss with that mouth? achievement:)
Girl Fight - Beat Yasmine using only Tory/Sam
(Yasmine is the final boss of the Beach Bonfire level. She is quite frustrating to fight against due to her ability to heal large chunks of health from her attacks. Be sure to have either Tory (Cobra Kai) or Sam (Miyagi-Do) selected before engaging her. Check the corresponding achievement description for more details on this fight:)
Family Business - Finish Sid off with Johnny or Robby
(Same as most other bosses, just beat on Sid until he's almost gone, then switch to either Johnny (Cobra Kai) or Robby (Miyagi-Do) to perform the final blow. Sid is unique as he has two full boss life bars, one for his shield and one for his health.
Completing this Challenge will unlock the corresponding achievement:)
Kick the Competition - Finish Tom Cole with a Kick
(Tom Cole is the final boss on the LaRusso Auto level. Take his health down in any manner you like. Once he's down to a few slivers of health left, finish him off with a standard kick combo by repeatedly press . Jump kicks as well as Dojo/Personal Kick Skill attacks should also count, but I played it safe with standard kicks to avoid replaying the level again.
Completing this Challenge will unlock the corresponding achievement:)
As High As the Rent - Finish Armand with a Skill
(Armand is the final boss of the 5th Avenue Bar level. Finishing him with any Dojo/Personal skill will work, but if you hit him with Miguel's Personal Jump Skill (+) you can get the Dodge the Irony achievement at the same time:)
