Personally, I find the level more of a strain than the alien tower so once you get to the top, just breathe.
When you get to the top, try and get to the right side of the screen and destroy the right turret gun before the alien 'spreader' takes its first shot. The reason for taking the right side is that the other turret takes time pointing towards you so this is the easier way!
When you destroy the turret, get as close to the centre of the screen as you can without being in the centre. The spreader will then take it's first shot and, as long as your not dead centre of the screen, will miss you. While it's shooting, remember to shoot left and right to get rid of the constantly advancing soldiers.
After the coast is clear, the other turret gun will now be looking in or around your direction. Get rid of it and stand in the blind spot of the spreader again.
Now take your time shooting both the advancing soldiers and shooting straight up at the spreader.
Once you've destroyed the spreader, stand dead centre of the screen and repeat the same shooting process as before.
And that's achievement unlocked!

The big thing with these achievements is that the default settings must be used so if you're uncertain, go into the settings and have them reset. Give it another bash and see what happens ;)

I can't get this one to pop. I've beat the alien tower at least 5 times. I thought it might be because I was using the 30 lives code, but it still didn't pop even after I beat the tower without the code. Does anyone know why this might be?

This isn't that hard once you get used to the game.
Just destroy the tower. Take out the 2 small turrets then the cannon thing, then the crystal up top. Watch out cause one soldier come out from each side of the screen.

You will know you are at the water level when you have to ascend up the level via platforms in front of a waterfall. Make it to the top and destroy the alien tower for this achievement.
