How to unlock the No Backpack Bird Needed achievement in Contrast - Definitive Guide

In Act II, when you go to fix the Pirate ship, you will eventually get in a boat with Didi after putting 3 boxes on proper push platforms. Finish the ride in the boat, and you will have an octopus arm blocking you. From there, just run counter clockwise on the rails, walk up the ramp, and jump in the chest / box, and after about 5 seconds, the achievement will pop.

I made a short 30 second video guide below to help demonstrate visually what I just said.

On two accounts this would not pop until I went back to last save. My problem was I stood on top of the chest lid before jumping inside. For some reason that made the achievement not unlock for me, but when I just jumped straight in the chest without standing on the lid first it unlocked. Took about 30 seconds, stood in nearest left corner. So that is something to keep in mind in case you are having issues.

It definitely slightly annoys me that you have to jump into the beginning of the chapter 2 in order to get this achievement as the checkpoints listed in the chapters only allow you to do the other 2 attractions or tell you to just go back to the tent to finish the chapter but at least it's an easy achievement as long as your aware of that giant chest as it does blend into the background if you aren't specifically looking for it

This is the oddest achievement name in the game! It's missable too.

When you're in the Pirate Ride, trying to knock out the octopus arms, you'll see a chest that keeps opening an closing next to some stairs. Just jump into the chest.

Yup, that's it :)

I guess the achievement name is in relation to Banjo & Kazooie or something. +1

Indeed a Banjo-Kazooie reference. To enter the Treasure Trove Cove zone, you had to jump into a giant treasure chest. Banjo couldn't jump high enough, so you had to use Kazooie's (the bird in his backpack) back flip move to get the extra height needed.

If we miss this during the first playthrough what chapter would we have to load up to get it?

Great guide. Had a bit of trouble working out exactly where it was but got there in the end. I thought id make a video for anyone who wanted a visual too accompany your text.

If you miss it during your playthrough you can load up chapter "All the Pretty Horses" and run straight into the pirate ship attraction and get it.

In Act II, when you are inside the Pirate ship ride you will come to a cutscene where you and Didi board a roller coaster. At the end of the cutscene, a squid tentacle comes down and blocks your boat from moving forward on the track. Once you gain control of Dawn, look around for the only physical walkway up to the higher areas. As you approach and begin to climb the first ramp, look just a bit to the left and you will see a Treasure Chest opening and snapping closed its lid. Simply time your fall to land inside the chest when it is open, and this Trophy is yours.

choosing "unstrung hero" level does not work as the door is locked. you have to start at "the return of the prodigal" level and play from there its not long.

Just to add: If you're going after this after you've finished the game, choose the "UNSTRUNG HERO" chapter from the Chapters select menu.

Once the chapter begins, just keep heading all the way down the stairs until you get to the "Tortuga's Revenge" ride. The section Slider describes is right after the first puzzle with the 3 box switches.

you can also just go to the chest and jump in it as well... you do not have to go up the ramp itself i did and when i missed the jump i tried to jump in the chest when it opened and it worked ... so i thought i would pass it along

After the puppet show during Act II you'll get to the pirate ship. Near the roller coaster is a ramp against the wall going up. Right in front of the ramp is the treasure chest you're looking for. Refer to the video if you're stuck:

This achievement is obtained during Act II, when Didi and Dawn are tasked with fixing the three attractions at the carnival.

While on board the ship, Tortuga’s Revenge, you will eventually come to a section where the roller coaster stops on the tracks and you need to get out. Before proceeding with the objective to turn the ride back on, head over to the stairs on the far right side of the attraction. You will notice a large black box underneath the stairs. Wait until the box opens, then quickly hop inside. The achievement will unlock right away.

In the second act, when you are repairing the ship, there will be a location where you need to shoot from a cannon.

There's a chest there that opens and closes on its own, you just have to jump into it

The chapter in the video is incorrect. You need to start from the chapter "Unstrung hero", and get to the place in the video.
