How to unlock the Vending Spree achievement in Control - Definitive Guide

How?
When playing through the AWE DLC be sure to shoot or lift all vending machines you come across because there is a small chance one of them will be Altered. It will be obvious since it will turn red and start to waddle away quickly. If killed it will then drop tons of loot and materials.
Bug
This achievement is buggy and has the chance to never spawn an Altered Vending Machine when playing through the AWE DLC. You may never encounter them due to your save being bugged. There are two workarounds at the moment. The first fix according to Guile132 down in the comments said, “To die by a hiss if the vending machines aren't appearing as altered.” Note that he had already seen two and then the AVMs stopped spawning. The second workaround that worked for me after never seeing any AVMs spawn after several hours of gameplay and searching requires resetting your save. You should finish all the other achievements and then restart your save by selecting Mission select>Endgame at the main menu. This will put you back at the end of the base game and reset the DLC's progression. I recommend using the newly added assist mode to have infinite health and one hit kills (Start>options>gameplay tab> scroll all the way down to enable). You only need to run up to the control point "Active Investigations" to use this method of farming kills. Resetting the DLC will take away some of your abilities and deselect your personal mods and weapon mods, that's why I recommend assist mode.
Resetting your save should be a last resort option. However, you could utilize the cloud save trick method to do this and then revert back to your old save. Pressing start on the application and going to mange game, then your saves, delete from console without closing the game once you have your achievement post reset. This will force a download from the cloud for your most recent save file. The bug appears to be happening in either the case of seeing a couple AVM then none and fixing it by dying by a hiss, or never seeing them and having to reset your save. The most recent update that happened may have also increased the spawning rates making this easier.
Method
From the Active Investigations control point you will want to turn around and make your way backwards through "Operations Center" to damage the three Vending machines on the second floor. Then continue to run south through the "Operations Corridor" and to the "Abandoned Offices" via the service tunnel. There are another three in the abandoned offices one on the right after first entering the offices then two more closer to the control point leading to the firebreak. Once you've damaged those six just return to the main menu and reload which will spawn you back at Active Investigations to run the path again.

Note: Something Tarot B pointed out in the comments. If you haven’t reset your progress again due to the glitch you can get a 7th vending machine along this route right at the start of the run. In the “Active Investigations” area you spawn at, run forward and to the left, you should find the Vending Machine next to the SHÜM arcade cabinets. Finding this extra one will increase your odds at finding an AVM making this hunt slightly shorter.

This is a clip of the run before I realized my game was bugged showing the locations and path to take.

Clip including Altered Vending Machines post reset via mission select.

You should be finding at least one Altered Vending Machine every 10 minutes using this method. It took less than 30 mins for me to run through the first 5 minutes of the game again and farm the 4 kills needed.
Delay
I only had to destroy 4 vending machines, but the achievement took over a minute to pop after killing my fourth.
Credit
Huge thanks to katana409 and GFreire for their guide and comments. They were a huge help in finding a great path for farming these kills. I didn't discover the bug or workaround either, I only suffered from it and wasted 5-6 hours before I had realized they were never going to spawn.
Good Luck Hunting! toast

Nope never reset just travelled between the farming spots after I killed Hartman

THANK YOU!! followed this route perfectly and after 4, got the achievement right away. They're essentially loot goblins in this universe, fast, annoying to kill and have a portal to vanish into if you're not quick enough. So i turned on "immortal" and "one shot kill" in the cheats to lessen my frustration farming these. Took me about 11 runs to get all 4 and i can confirm some of them won't count for whatever reason.

I believe this is completely random. I had 3 altered vending machines in a row on one run of the above solution.

OldSchoolBlood, It does rely on RNG, but it can also be bugged as well. The rng shouldn’t be so bad to the point of never seeing one though. Once I reset my save I was seeing multiple in a run with this method at times.

There are 3 vending machines in abandoned offices, 3 in the operations corridor and 3 in the frau mauro entrance. Destroy all 9 in a single run, then quit to the main menu, reload, destroy all 9 again, rinse and repeat. You only have to destroy 4 for this achievement and doing it this way only took me like 15-20 mins.

Okay, after replaying the whole DLC and the Foundation DLC, I went back. This time, I was able to farm that route and got all 4. dance

I don't know if it was the RNG, dumb luck, or the cat ears I was wearing. laugh Doesn't matter though.

In my game I just found one randomly while going through the DLC.
Used the run a few times after finishing it but no luck.
The key is to quit the game. I was only using fast travel and no vending machine ever popped. After quitting to the main menu, I had 1 showing up every 2-3 runs. Took me about 20min to find the 3 I was missing.

This may have been patched since launch to increase the RNG chance. (I only just installed and started playing the DLC today.) Or I could have been really lucky.

I say this because I had no trouble getting this achievement. Between the three vending machines at the “Abandoned Offices” (AO) and “Operations Corridor” (OC) this was a blitz.

1st visit to AO got me 2/3. 1st visit to OC got me 1/3. 2nd Visit to AO got me 1/3. 2nd visit to OC got me 3/3 and the achievement.

Frequency after getting the achievement tanked so don’t expect to be able to farm these for mods forever.

As mentioned quitting to the title screen is essential to reset the rooms.

I hoped I could get around resetting my progress by playing offline and restoring my save using Cloud backups since there aren't any USBs at home. Unfortunately I goofed and forgot to delete my console save before going online again, so I lost my progress 🙄

On the plus side, turned out resetting to endgame DID fix this for me (although the achievement progress didn't budge, which makes me think the game counted it as me destroying the same two that I did in my OG save 🤔)

Just don't be daft like me, and remember to delete your local save while you're still offline...

Worse... went to Endgame, lost my progress, VMs are still not working. I finished every thing in the DLC, but what bums me out is that I did some bosses in the main game that I have to (or not) beat again. Already finished the campaign, so it's optional, although I have to do more to get to the 100 ability point now.

But yeah, resetting did not work. Valid tip if it works for others.

NB: I'm playing Ultimate Edition, not the original.

Also did the above.
Didn’t want to lose my progress in game.

Just quit out at Abandoned Offices, loaded back in, and the first one before security was Altered.
Never in the whole playthrough and then immediately.

I do wonder if it’s not glitched, but there’s let’s say every time you load a 50% chance of a single machine being one.
And there’s like 20 machines, and everyone only runs to the easy ones to check..

Anyway, on to hunt three more..

To add to the last list, there is also one immediately through the doors at the Bright Falls AWE Entrace control point.

I also had no problems getting this by quitting to the main menu after each run.

I tried all the solutions listed and decided to search elsewhere and I came across a page that mentioned to die by a hiss if the vending machines aren't appearing as altered. Before trying that, I had only destroyed 2 and couldn't come across anymore no matter what I did by following the solutions so I died once and came across 2 which unlocked my achievement. I won't downvote the solution but you should add this to it.

By RasputinBPRD on 04 Jan 2021 04:47
Yeah, the most recent save point you can start from is the last mission in the base game. Then you start the dlc again and run five minutes into it and can use the path I showed to farm kills. If you haven’t seen any altered machines at all, that method will fix the glitch.

I was able to follow the tips that Drazer76 listed above - did a combination of the 2 (quit and quick travel) without needing to do anything with the save game suggestion above - was able to get the achievement to pop within about 10 mins of starting that method - quick, easy and painless.

This was a challenge for me...only had in spawn/respawn in two places: Fra Mauro AWE Entrance and Operations Centre; I tried all the other ones multiple times but no AVM spawned there; took me about 1.5hrs to get the achievement unlocked, however I didn't experience a delay in the unlocking.

Just got this achievement, at first it was bugged, the vending machine would not turn altered. The way it worked for me was having a hiss kill me. Then running the route of all vending machines. I got one or two to appear altered. After that I loading into another sector then load back to Investigation sector. Did the same route got one or two here and their. Got all 6 vending machines to appear altered in 4 runs of loading in and back. Achievement took a minute or two to pop.

Unfortunately, to unlock this simple achievement, I had to go to ‘Mission Select’ and select the Polaris mission (my last main story save) to start this up again. Annoying that I have to play through the DLC again, but it’s a small price to pay. I don’t have to, but having Surge maxed out is worth the trouble.

By JullianGG on 31 Jan 2021 22:21
Just a heads up... if this isn't glitched the route he gives makes them appear a LOT. I did 20 runs, got one the first time (and it escaped) none the next 19... and once I reset the DLC it only took 4 runs to kill 4 of them. I'd say if you don't see any in 5 consecutive runs (so 30-35 machines) it's safe to assume it's glitched.

Everytime I choose endgame it has the investigations missions completed, do you think that’s why I can’t get it. Does Hartmann need to be alive for it to work correctly?

0
By XxAssassin259xX on 15 Feb 2021 22:20
I doubt if Hartman is dead they won't spawn, but I could be wrong. I assume that because they're supposed to be like collectibles. If you feel that's the issue, you could try using the cloud save trick to delete your local save and play offline. Once you destroyed 4 you can reconnect to pop the achievement and delete local save again to revert back to old save. Even easier solution than that would be load from a mission slightly earlier, before you killed Hartman (not endgame). I wish you luck Assassin259 and would love to hear what fixes it for you.

By XxAssassin259xX on 16 Feb 2021 01:43
From what I remember, you have to finish episode 7 before even being able to start the AWE dlc. The first quest in the dlc is called A Dark Place, and you must use the elevator in central control to travel to investigations sector. Is this the quest you're referring to not working? Resetting the mission back forces you to lose all progress and control points recently discovered, so you would have to use the elevator and not a control point.

Had no luck with the dying via Hiss or using endgame. I decided to load Finnish Tango and made my mission A Dark Place. I did all the stuff to get to the control point, quit to the main menu and started my runs, then they finally came through and I got my final achievement.

Thank you for the info about episode 7, I was previously thinking I wasn’t far enough in game as I didn’t see investigations on a CP.

Just got this and I don't think it's bugged (at least as of now).

The trick seems to be quitting the game to the menu rather than just fast travelling between points.

Took me 5 runs going between the Abondoned Offices and the Operations Centre via the Service Tunnels to get the 3 I still needed (I had one from regular playthrough).

Hey, one of the hidden locations has a clock. If you access it, you can stop it a few times. The code is: 17716497. A trap door will open up. If you drop down, there are two more vending machines. Grab the key at the motel to get back up.

My save must've bugged because I never got any on my first run through the DLC until I followed the method of dying then running the route from the Active Investigations control point, but that only worked for 2 vending machines. After spending several hours over 2 nights trying to get the remaining 2 to spawn I had no luck, so decided to finish the DLC and all other achievements then reset my save by selecting the Endgame mission select option from the main menu.

After that I did a single quick run through the DLC with assist mode enabled. I found one altered vending machine in the Abandoned Offices then after beating the first Hartman encounter in Active Investigations I took the elevator up to Fra Mauro where I found my second altered vending machine, which gave me the total of 4 needed for the achievement. Thank goodness for that!

Every 2-3 runs after quitting to Main menu and hitting Continue, one of the 9 vending machines will spawn, if you're lucky you'll get more. Bit tedious but not impossible or requiring any hard reset.

I don't think it's actually glitched, I think it's missable as only 5 vending machines will spawn. If you don't realise you've triggered them, or not killed them on each first attempt, then you've missed it. Hence why the target is 80%, as you need 4 of 5. If they infinitely spawned the achievement would be kill 4.

I got this in the Ultimate Edition by following the advice of @Guile132. I had 25% and the altered vending machines were appearing when reloading but only occasionally. No matter how many I killed they weren't counting and I was stuck on 25%. So I tried dying as suggested by @Guile132, although I didn't die to a Hiss I just jumped off the firebreak bridge. This put me back to the Active Investigations control point and I followed the path from the video. Four of the vending machines were altered for me on that run and the achievement unlocked after killing three. I carried on the path and killed the fourth for good measure but the achievement had already popped by then. clap

Excellent guide, thank you very much. I ran the path shown (plus the seventh one in the Chum room) a few times and got this in no time at all. I don't think I saw a single altered vending machine until I started trying to get this achievement. I thought I might have to reset my save but luckily they started appearing on the route.

This is missable/bugged!!!
Do it first before any other dlc progress that way if you have to reset you don’t lose all your save progress. (It may be beating the dlc that stops the continued randomly generated spawns?) Easy to find in the first half hour or less if you know to look for it and use ‘quit to menu’ loop!

Stupid thing, those vending machines seem to despawn when you don't see them, so you need to be quick and don't let them leave the room. Two of them just disappeared shortly after spawn.

After reaching the control point and on first circuit it popped 😁

I had to do the reset option, i did try to activate the items, going back to exce control to reload the area/making sure i die by jumping off a firebreak but didn't see any at all in my normal game.

So rset to end game, took 20 mins to get back up to Active control area and then could do a run of the 7 vending machines i had access to.

I shrieked with excitement when i got my first one! i had been worried i'd actually not spotted them! but no, hard to miss them when they actually occur!

Ok this is probably on my top 10 worse achievements ever!!! I gotta say that "glitched" save file thing was bs from my pov. However, I went back to the ENDGAME mission (unlucky for me I already beat the AWE DLC by then LOL) and still had the Foundation DLC to start with. So as long as you still have main story missions you should be good if you follow this guide. Lost all my in-game progress but was worth it since I could complete this game at last. Thanks Raw Sauce Ross

Would ABSOLUTELY recommend doing this one at the very end for 100% completion if not yet done with other stuff.

The Dying method works, and waiting too. I thought my save bugged, but I waited and immidiately the first vending machine was altered!
So try a couple times before reload the game from the main menu!!!

There are actually 8 vending machines on your route. The 8th being the half height one right at the start of your first video. You pick up the regular vending machine and then throw it at the wall, on the left as you throw it is a half-sized machine that i believe would be for cigarettes. I've gotten an altered out of this very machine during my run

I didn't need to die, I would just go around to the vending machines and then if nothing was spawned then I would exit to the game and then resume. After a few attempts some would spawn.

Quick resume makes this buggy so make sure you quit the game and reload when you are trying to do this. I just kept going to the operations corridor and I found one there every time I loaded in

Got the achievement today using this method. Fortunately no need for resetting my save or dying. Did it in about 10~15min, with one altered vending machine appearing in almost every run

If I had an altered vending machine once in my playthrough of the AWE DLC, does that mean my save file is not glitched? Or could it have suddenly lost the ability to generate altered vending machines part-way through my playthrough?

I really don't want to have to reset my progress if I don't have to, but so far, no vending machines have been altered, not since the one in the Operations Center that happened at random in the middle of a fight.

At the time, I thought it was just an Alan Wake style 'poltergeist' item that would die if it went into the light. :P

~

EDIT: So my file was glitched for sure, as soon as I used mission select and went back to 'Endgame', the altered vending machines were pretty common.

I don't know what the guy above me did, but his solution is way more time consuming because it would've meant he had to play through the whole game. I tried to do this just now, taking the xbox offline with the intention of going to mission select and hitting Endgame. Then I'd play through the mission, go to Investigations and try to farm for the vending machines. Except the game won't let you use Mission Select unless you are online. Going offline disables the mission select option. I would've had to play through the whole game just to get back to there.

For whatever reason this game seems to treat your abilities and progess like some kind of Leaderboard system, that letting you keep everything you've earned by going back to a previous level is cheating. Every avenue towards saving your progress, USBs, the cloud, etc, they're unavailable. I can't move the save game, I can't copy the save game, I'm basically screwed here.

My only option is to git Mission Select and lose all my progress, including the Expedition Ranger outfit it took me forever to win. Help me out here, folks. Is there any solution to this without destroying my progress? Because i've tried and tried and tried, but no Vending machines are spawning at all, ever. Does anyone know if a patch is coming?

So....when I first entered the Investigations Sector, I encountered these machines. Since then, I haven't encountered any of them. I know this is bugged, but the description of the bug above is that I would never encounter the machines, and I have. Can the bug trigger later, after encountering them?

EDIT: Nothing I could do within the current save would cause additional altered vending machines to spawn. I had to use the Endgame save. :( I mean, I got it, but it's really annoying to lose all of that progress.

Also, these 5 control points are a quick eleven.
It’s from TrueTrophies, was a good list to follow quickly between restarts..

Fra Mauro AWE Entrance -
1 directly in front of you at control point
Go through debris/door 1 machine to right of security gate
Through security gate 1 at top of right stairs

Operations center -
Run through doors in front of you, turn right into Operations Center
1 machine around corner on left (still upstairs)
Just past this go immediately through control room and there are 2 outside the second doors

AWE Loading Bay -
Go through door to loading bay, 1 on left down the short stairs

Sealed firebreak -
1 at control point
Through security gate 1 immediately on left

Abandoned offices -
Turn around, veer right into central hallway, first right, turn left. 1 machine
Through security, 1 on left.

I don't think that this achievement "glitches" but is instead "missable." Here's my theory, you get 5 attempts to kill AVMs. If you miss more than one, you've missed your chance at the achievement for that run. For example, in my case, I missed one before I realized what was going on, lost another in the maze of rooms in Active Investigations and was killed by a guy busting out of the room next to the Firebreak for a third. I killed two and my achievement progress is at 50%. Since missing the third one, I have gotten no further AVMs on the multiple runs of the path above, the same path that had spawned 4 in a just a few runs previously. That explains how the work-around - to re-roll the DLC - is working for people because they are focusing only on killing the vending machine, and usually get at least 4/5.

Personally, I think this achievement should be marked as "Missable" rather than "bugged." If anyone can confirm or refute this theory, your input is welcome!

I need one more. Just one. I've reloaded multiple times. I've changed sectors multiple times. Nothing. Ugh...

EDIT: I let an enemy kill me and went in reverse order. Second to last one (not sure if I can go up the Firebreak) spawned a AVM to get me the achievement. clap

Mine got stuck after I killed the 1st possessed machine. I completed all the other achievements, and simply reloaded the game from the dashboard. I went to Abandoned Offices and had myself killed by enemies.
Then I run around the place and got 2 possessed machines. Got killed again and got another one in the same place.
The achievement didn't unlock and didn't track (I had the achievement tracker on screen). I let the enemies kill me one more time and when I respawned the achievement unlocked.

I just unlocked this. I disabled my assist mode once I beat this final DLC and then died. Upon respawning I fast traveled to Active Investigations, then quit to main menu and reloaded into the game. Cleared the 1 by the Shum Arcade game, the 3 in Active Investigations office (2nd floor), then ran to Abandoned Offices for those 3. I quickly ran backwards around first corner and fast traveled to Frau Mauro AWE Entrance for those 3. Then quit to main menu and reloaded. Do the 3 machines in Frau, then fast travel to Active Investigations. 3 runs once I got this down and I finally got a run where 3 popped in one go and pop went my achievement! If you don't see a machine on the first run or 8, don't get discouraged. They will pop. I had 2 or 3 escape before I figured out to plant a surge grenade on the wall next to machine before I picked it up with launch. If it glowed red, I immediately hit the Right Trigger to detonate grenade. With assist mode enabled, the machines die and cannot escape.

Good luck

I absolutely agree with the comment above. I had to reset everything to make them appear.

You can also use the Cloud to your advantage by choosing the "Endgame" Chapter and then, without going to the dashboard (As I did by mistake), follow the guide until you unlock the achievement. Then, press the Xbox Button (Or Home / Guide Button) to go to your Control save and delete it from your console, so when you enter the game next time, you will download your old save from the cloud. All of this without going to the dashboard, otherwise, the console is going to upload your save.

I unfortunately made this mistake and now I don't have my progress for the DLCs anymore. The only thing that remain are my clips from when I played them. This was my last achievement, but I'm still mad about my old save.

If there is still someone in trouble, this is how it worked for me.
Yesterday I followed the video route in this guide that is perfect to find out six or seven AVM in very few minutes. I destroyed more than four but achievement didn't popped. Tried to die and destroy another AVM but achievement progress was still at 75%.
After a couple of minutes it popped on my Xbox app (and TrueAchievements registered the event) but was yet locked on my console profile.
So I closed the game, deleted local save game, loaded the game forcing the download from cloud of the most recent save. Just played for some minutes and left the game running without do anything. At last the achievement popped :)

Fuck this achievement and, by extension, this entire game.

I definitely recommend turning on one-hit kills in the assist menu. Nothing worse than spending hours of your time trying to get an altered machine to finally spawn, only for it to escape from you because it takes like 40 shots to explode. Even with one-hit kills turned on, you should shoot each machine twice. At least for me, it appeared that the first shot would just "activate" the altered machine, then I'd have to shoot it a second time to blow it up.

I had gotten at least 3 on my initial run, then they stopped spawning, and my tracker was stuck at 25% anyway. I did the Endgame save reset and had to get another 3 before it finally popped, so apparently after reset it was adhering to what the tracker said (even though it was wrong).

I also believe my save file was glitched and I had to restart from "Endgame" mission. However, there's a way you can keep your progress:

1) Disconnect from the internet your XBOX (yes, entirely, but first make sure your latest save is uploaded to cloud storage)
2) Once disconnected, select from menu to replay mission "Endgame" and follow the guide's steps and excellent tips to destroy at least 4 vendings machines
3) Achievement won't pop because there's no internet, doesn't matter, just make sure to destroy the required number of vending machines (exit to menu and reloading spawned the most vending machines)
4) Once done with the killing spree, exit the game and delete your local saved data (yes, it's scary, I know xD)
5) Now turn on your wifi, start the game and your latest saved data should be recovered from the cloud, thus keeping all your progress
6) Continue playing and exit the game
7) Start the game again and the achievement should pop (as the requirements have been met and can be validated online) (may take a while)

Most infuriating achievement in the whole game, what were they thinking?

For what it's worth - I realized something while trying to get this achievement last night. I was doing runs for hours and nothing spawned. Then I died to a Hiss and got my first one. I tested my theory and realized something valuable.

If you destroy the vending machines (I was shooting instead of lifting, but either works), they stay destroyed when you do fast travel. They don't reset and will never spawn into the living vending machines. You have to die (not necessarily to a Hiss, but just die) to reset them.

How can you tell if they're reset? If they have lights on (i.e. have power). When I did a run, would fast travel, on my next run they would all be powered down. In this state, I did runs for an hour, and none spawned. I died, and then they were all powered up and I got one pretty much every other run.

To summarize, if you aren't getting any, check to see if they aren't powered on. In that case, fast travel won't work (maybe if you traveled to a different floor? Don't know, didn't test that.) I would do my run, and then let myself die. On the next run the machines would have power, and I had a chance at getting one of them.

Quitting the game might also work - didn't try that. I can verify just fast traveling didn't work for me and had me stumped for quite some time.

Just a further note to anybody who hasn't played the DLCs yet:

Due to the buggy nature of the Vending Spree achievement in the AWE DLC you might want to consider getting this achievement FIRST as it's highly likely that you'll need to use the option of resetting your save by loading up the Endgame chapter in mission select to get the altered vending machines to spawn, which means you'll lose all DLC progress (Foundation and AWE). This seems to be the only way to guarantee they'll spawn - all other options and methods are very hit and miss and can be a waste of many hours.

It only takes about 10-15 minutes to rush through to the first boss encounter in Active Investigations with Assist Mode active, then up the central elevator into the Fra Mauro AWE sector, and you should've come across 10-12 vending machines by that point, some of which should be altered ones. Once you've gotten that far either quit and reload your save and run the same route in reverse to hopefully find more altered vending machines, or load the Endgame chapter again and repeat as above.

Once you've got this you can continue on with your game and have all your progress retained when you finish rather than having to play through both DLCs again should you wish to continue playing afterwards while being fully powered up and having the best mods.

I've seen many people have difficulty with this trophy, but as of updates thru December 2020 I think they tweaked the spawn rate.

The easiest way to get this trophy is to turn on invincibility and one shot kills, fast travel to the abandoned offices:

1) run back towards the fire break for 2 vending machines at security, then proceed through the offices for 1 more (right as you enter).
2) run to the next section (Operations center) and there is another 1 before the control room and 2 through the other side. That makes 6 opportunities in only a few minutes.
3) if you dont get an AWE vending machine, quit to main menu and then continue (back @ abandoned offices). If you did then fast travel back to save progress and repeat.

This method only took me 4 restarts to get 5 vending machines and popping the trophy. You MAY only need 4 machines I hear. I got 1-2 every run. Maybe I'm the luckiest SOB ever, but I think the spawn rates have been adjusted.

I didn't make this guide and take no credit for it, but it helped me more than having to read through all the comments on the guide with more upvotes, and this guide has 14x vending machines, which increases your odds even more.

https://gamepretty.com/control-ultimate-edition-all-vending-...

Some things not explicitly mentioned in this guide that I found useful are:
  1. This achievement must be done in the Investigations Sector (requires the AWE expansion).
  2. You will have to back out to the main menu multiple times so the vending machines can reset (I had to do this 4x times, but that's because 1x ran away before I could destroy it). The luckiest I got was 2x in a single run through and there are 5x total (you will only need 4x to get the achievement).
  3. It helps once you've gone all the way through the list to respawn back to Sealed Firebreak (called Sector Head Office on the map) before backing out to the main menu and jumping back in the game to reset the vending machines.
  4. I recommend stopping by #14 after grabbing #9 to make the run through quicker. It took me about 10 minutes a run through once I knew where they were.

I really struggled with this trophy and I was convinced it was permanantly glitched, however, having now achieved it, I thought I'd write down how I did it. I must admit, I did a lot of Googling and the technique I'll explain wasn't discovered by me, but actually gleaned from a few posts I read online. Whilst I cannot take credit, the fact that it worked definitely means it needs sharing.

This trophy was the last one I had to obtain. I'd managed to discover three possessed vending machines in a short space of time, and had killed two of them... on the third I died from the Hiss before I had chance to destroy it. I do wonder if it was this that glitched it, as afterwards, no matter how many times I traipsed around the DLC area, I could not find another possessed one.

I had read that you should quit the game and load the chapter 'End Game' - doing this actually wipes all progress from the DLC's and so is a difficult call to make. However, as this was my last trophy, and as I had backed up my save game to the cloud, I decided to give it a go. Given that you lose a lot of progress, and my level of frustration at the time, I turned on one hit kills and invincibility within the new Assist Mode found in the options. I then made my way into the AWE DLC section. The first vending machine I came up to was possessed, but then the next handful I found were not. After a while I decided to quit out and reload. Suffice to say, the next vending machine I hit was possessed - having shot it (with the assisted one shot) the trophy popped. I've seen different numbers from the various posts out there, but for me, I only needed to destroy 4 in total (although I've read it can take as many as 6 though).

Hope this helps.

The altered vending machines run away when you shoot them. Turn on one hit kills and immortality. I needed 4 for the trophy; found one playing through the story and had to grind 3 more for about 45 minutes after. While the altered machines appear random I figured I'd share my method if it helps others. I fast traveled through the following 5 fast travel points which have nearby vending machines, shoot machines, quit to menu, reload game, and then repeat the cycle. The machines that were altered for me are starred:

Fra Mauro AWE Entrance -
1 directly in front of you at control point
Go through debris/door *1 machine to right of security gate
Through security gate 1 at top of right stairs

Operations center -
Run through doors in front of you, turn right into Operations Center
*1 machine around corner on left (still upstairs)
Just past this go immediately through control room and there are *2 outside the second doors

AWE Loading Bay -
Go through door to loading bay, 1 on left down the short stairs

Sealed firebreak -
1 at control point
Through security gate 1 immediately on left

Abandoned offices -
Turn around, veer right into central hallway, first right, turn left. *1 machine

There are quite a few of vending machines in the Altered World Events DLC. Basically, just attack them. If the machine reveals to be altered (random and it'll be glowing red), kill it. Just follow the map below for their locations. If you happen to find them all and the trophy didn't pop, fast travel to the closest control points and re-attack them. Also note that if the lights are on on the machines, the random altered spawn might occur. And if this didn't work, close the game out then relaunch it. There are also 2 more vending machines in the Shifted Passage hidden location (LINK) but the location closes after you've exited the hotel sequence hence why it is not on the map below. The clock code to open the passage is 17716497 (special thanks to Kaiser Ryu for this).

The trophy may have been bugged, since during the first and complete passage of the DLC I did not see a single possessed machine gun, although I destroyed them in batches.
Restarting the DLC by selecting the "Final" mission helped (don't forget to copy your saves before doing this). Then I went to the entrance of Fra Mauro, namely clearing the corridor, where to activate the elevator you need to kill mobs and illuminate the cube with a nest for it. After that, I jumped to the central administration (where our allies are located) to reset the location, then to the Control Center, from where I shot at the machine guns at the entrance and exit of the room, and then at the rest of the machine guns. One machine gun at the Abandoned Offices security post. One machine gun at the Fra Mauro guard post. When the possessed did not appear for a very long time, I restarted the game.

Restarting the DLC is optional. I just moved between checkpoints and shot vending machines. The random gods turned some of them into altered ones. Three laps around key control points and the trophy is won.

Yes, this method works, if you do not have possessed machines or one appeared, and after that it never appeared, then it is better to restart the DLC. After the restart, at every location where there were machine guns, at least one of them was possessed.

The method from OmegaObscure is 100% working, I suffered for an hour until I simply restarted the DLC again. So, just close the game, insert the flash drive and copy the entire save there. Next, launch the game and select Immediate chapter selection - FINAL. We go into the game and immediately click - MANAGEMENT - CENTRAL DEPARTMENT and run into the main elevator (the one that connects all locations), against the background of the wall a black and white cutscene begins with Alan, in which he will say at the end: Investigation Sector. We must wait for this moment, then this point will open in the elevator. Let's start the DLC and follow OmegaObscure's hint and get to the point where you need to activate the elevator. Having jumped down, we immediately come across a fast travel point (a location with a lantern on a trolley) and immediately from it we make a TP to the very first point Abandoned OFFICES, and again begins to run to the elevator, simultaneously shooting at each vending machine. The trophy is obtained by abusing fast travel, in about 10 minutes.
I’ll repeat once again, if you suffer for more than half an hour and still haven’t come across more than 1 machine gun, or at most 1, then this is a bug.

If you do not have time to kill the machine gun (it explodes on its own), then a bug has arisen that it will not appear for several circles. I didn’t have a single one in half an hour or an hour, I played the slot machine, they started spawning again

Running around locations looking for a machine takes a long time; in 1 hour I didn’t get 1. I restarted the DLC, walked a little to the offices and all the machines there were infected, I didn’t have to go further along the plot in the location of 3 machines and all of them were infected, then I re-entered the game and everything was the same.

The trophy is not glitchy, it’s just that if you defeat the machine the first time, it will appear immediately because the victory will be counted immediately with one hundred percent, but if you miss the first meeting or he runs away, then in the second meeting the victory will be counted in 50% of cases and the subsequent ones will have to get to one hundred, if you miss, the percentage will drop and you will have to kill more machines; this is the logic of the trophy.

After passing, I ran around the map for 2 days, 5 hours every day, and did not encounter a single aggressive refrigerator.
It only helped through choosing a Mission.
This is the advice.
1. Through mission selection, select “Final”
2. go down the elevator and shoot at the refrigerators while you go to the point after the “operations center”
3 there are 8 refrigerators along the road. (while I was walking, 2 aggressive ones fell out at once)
4.Then we activate the point after the “operational center” location IMPORTANT!!! right in front of her. until we enter the next room (which is dark and we meet Hartman for the first time)
5.after activating the point, simply go to the main menu and click continue. We appeared in the "operations center" location and go to the beginning of the level. (On this run I met 3 refrigerators.
It’s strange, but it’s similar when you drive a boss away from a location (here we do this 3 times, we clean out the refrigerators and they can no longer attack.

Vending machines are located:
1. Abandoned offices - 1 pc.
2. Active investigations - 1 pc.
3. Operations center - 3 pcs.
4. Loading platform - 1 pc.
As soon as you find one machine and destroy it, you need to press start and exit to the menu, then continue the game and go through all the points again until you find another crazy machine. Repeat until successful, it took me 4 times.

Yes, it’s definitely not necessary to reboot, it happened to me when I respawned in the section: Investigations, in locations: 1. Abandoned offices; 2. Active investigations; 3. AMC loading dock - and alternating them several times with each other, as soon as you appear you find machine guns, shoot at those in which the light is on and they become possessed, in the same locations, managed to knock out this trophy, on the same machines, if the light does not light on the machine, or after shooting it does not become possessed, you exit to the main menu or simply jump to another sector in any location, then again to the sector: Investigations. Basically, most of the machines are in the above locations, which I have seen above, under No. 1 and No. 2.

June 2021 - the bug with the achievement has not yet been fixed. I solved the problem this way: I disconnected the console from the Internet (on the xbox series s you cannot copy saves to a flash drive, unlike the xbox 360), restarted the dlc by selecting the last chapter in the menu and enabled one-shot kill in the game settings (as compensation for the bug). After 4 or 5 killed machines, I left the game, deleted the local save from the console and turned on the Internet, started the game, the save from the cloud was pulled up, TP-stumbled a couple of times between the points, there was no trophy, left the game, came in again, appeared after 3-5 minutes (I just went to clean out the jukebox).

The trophy is not buggy. No need to reload dlc. There is only one machine at a time on the entire map. Go through them all, find them, kill them, go to the menu and come back, and so on until victory. 2 machines in the office of the sector manager, 3 in abandoned offices, 1 in active investigations (at the slot machines), 3 in the operational center (two of them are located directly next to each other), 1 at the entrance to the location "AMC Bright Falls" , immediately behind the door after the tpshka, 3 at the observation deck (the first is immediately visible, at the door next to the spawn, the second is behind the door on the left, also standing by the door, and the third is just behind this door, you need to go a little further), and the last one is at the loading dock AMS site (Go through the door and there is a staircase on the left). Only 14. There is also INCORRECT information that the same machine cannot be possessed several times. Most likely a fake, since the trophy could have been ruined.

Only one random machine out of 12 at a time becomes possessed. As soon as you found and killed him, go to another location (for example, the control center), return and go through everything with the machine gun again. All vending machine locations are shown in the picture below.
