Large Items come from well fed animals that have five+ hearts. Regular products come from animals with 1-4 hearts or unfed animals (this is key when trying to get regular golden products, intentionally starve them for a couple of days then feed them again for them to produce and eventually they will roll low and generate regular products again).

To obtain milk either use a milk pail or auto collector.
To obtain wool use sheers or an auto collector
To obtain Truffles or Gesha beans let the pigs and luwaks out of the barn and they will find them and appear on your farm (Auto collector does not work for these items)
Feathers will be collected by an auto collector.

Golden products come from Chickens (Easy) and Cows (Hard) that have won the mini games in the Animal Festival on the 12th day of Summer.

Update(1.10.2024): game pass PC v1-112 breaks the cow/chicken mini games just like current Xbox version.

I cant even play the cow mini game, started it four times in year 2 and the game crashed every single time loading the mini game.
12.28.2023 - Build version 1.0-943 (Xbox)

Just got my second play through back to Summer 12 Year 2. Chicken mini game either in practice or competition is broke. It assigns you a random low heart chicken named chicken and on top of that correctly pressing the buttons seems to have no effect on maintaining your HP.

Additionally, whenever you start the Cow mini game practice or competition the game simply crashes to dashboard on Xbox Series X.

Selecting a different chicken or cow has no effect.
Reloading the save and/or hard booting Xbox has no effect.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the game has no effect.

I tested Game Pass PC build v1-4 and the mini games still work properly on it.

As a workaround: You could download it on PC and complete them then switch back to Xbox on Summer 13. I would not recommend continuing to play on it though because it is an older build and lacks a lot of the functionality of the current Xbox version.

SSj Sean,
This one took me a lot longer than I expected because of the damn cow minigame i ragequitted it until year 3.
Nice to know I was not the only one that found this overly hard.

the direction arrow prompt shows up on the side of the screen that corresponds to it (right will show up to the right of the chicken)
Note: This is currently only true on the Xbox version. Makes it a lot easier imo, good improvement from my perspective seeing as how the PC version seems to be an older build of the product.

I tried it with both a partial <3 cow and a full <3 cow it didn't seem to give you any appreciable advantage
Well, my first game is corrupted probably due to starting on PC. I just got to year 1 animal festival on my second game with a two <3 cow and it requires 5 button combos unlike what I was used to with round 1-2 being 2 button and round 3 being 3 buttons with a full <3 cow so there is a benefit to high <3 cows in the mini game.

Thanks for sharing your experience and tips, much appreciated.

This one took me a lot longer than I expected because of the damn cow minigame i ragequitted it until year 3. PROTIP for both the chicken and cow games you can only do it once a year win or lose. If you are going for getting all of the gold products (your chicken or cow will have a gold medal after he wins if you want to keep track of this) you can simply hard quit the game and reload the day of the animal festival.

The chicken game is a lot like the bull riding event: the direction arrow prompt shows up on the side of the screen that corresponds to it (right will show up to the right of the chicken) so don't actually read the prompt, look at the chicken in the center and react based on which side of the chicken it is! This one is harder to fail with a full <3 chicken, but as long as you quickly follow the prompts you'll win easy.
I have no great advice for the cow game, it took me 6 tries over the course of 3 years. Just hit the prompts as fast as possible, hope RNG is with you. I tried it with both a partial <3 cow and a full <3 cow it didn't seem to give you any appreciable advantage.

If you don't feel like mistreating your animals (they are actually pretty hard to bum out once happy) you can also add/upgrade barns and coops and acquire more animals which will be more likely to drop low grade items if you are missing them. I personally have a ton of cows because of the 1000x animal product shipped cheev. The last products I ended up shipping were black truffle and small gold milk. Damn piggies wouldn't give me low end truffles until i bought 5 of them!

For anyone having trouble with the cow mini game, just mash all 4 directions constantly. If you just continuously spam you'll finish each little QT almost instantly and win every round with no trouble at all.

If you get your animals to like you too much and fully upgrade the hay to osmium quality, the odds of them spawning a normal sized golden egg or milk goes way down. If this happens, like it did to me, consider letting your critters starve for a bit making them less happy and thus more likely to spawn the lower quality products.
