To go from level 0 to level 100 you need 20001xp. You gain melee xp by hiting a monster it doesnt care if you kill it or not.
The strat here is to take a trash melee weapon that can hit multiple monster. The rusty dagger is the best choice here. You gain 1xp per hit but can hit multiple monster in the same time you also want to bring a table to repair your tool. Make yourself naked and reset your skill to have the minimum damage output.
To farm it here is a video explaining the setup that you will use to hit a lot of monster :
By using the hive mother that spawn a lot of monster and larva you can power level in about 4 hours just stand 18 block from her and she will spawn monster because you are in the arena but not attack you because you are to far. If you have a turbo controler or any type of rubber band now is the time to use it.
